NesterJ, the nearly perfect NES emulator by Ruka, has been making nostalgic PSP owners happy for over a year now and is a staple of PSP homebrew. Today, it has taken a couple more steps towards being the ideal emulator on the PSP. 3 months ago, Ruka had mentioned that he was working on NesterJ v1.20 and intended it to have Ad-Hoc WiFi support for 1.0/1.50 PSP's (kernel access). Thanks to the recent downgrader, this is a great way to experience the joys of homebrew gaming for the PSP!As if that wasn't enough, Ruka also says that thanks to improvements in GPU processing, there's about a 20% increase in speed - which is saying something since NesterJ already ran a fair share of NES games at full speed with frameskip disabled. Previous problems with sound timing were also fixed, but is still a problem with Network Play.

- Drawing speed up by 20% when using GPU
- Sound processing in single play mode has been modified
- Network communication is still in-development and needs adjustment
- If you don't want to use frameskip during Network Play, set CPU to 333mhz
- Misc.
How to start WiFi Network Play:
- Turn on your WiFi switch and set your PSP to AdHoc Mode (choose the same channel as your co-player)
- Start NesterJ and choose your ROM
- Select "Wifi Network Play(Adhoc)"
- Wait until you get the message "sceNetInit() done" - this means the PSP is in Network Standby
- Repeat steps 1 - 4 for the second player
- Player 2: Press Circle to send a connection request
- Player 1: After getting the request from Player 2, press the Circle button
Obviously, identical ROMs are needed and if the emulator settings on all the PSP's are not the same, the synchronization might fail.
This is still a beta so it is a bit unstable, but it should give you and a friend a retro-tastic good time, as well be a great way for all the new downgradee's to experience a piece of PSP homebrew history - past, present and future. (Thanks for the heads up, Byte!)

How is the speed on this one (for single player gaming, that is). The last beta was very slow for me, so I had to go back to the last stable release.

You should be careful what you say. When you say network, it means it's online. When you say ad-hoc, its from PSP to PSP directly. Edit the post, it's confusing.

Sorry about the download link, guys. Our system automatically converts all URL's to lowercase - and Ruka's homepage address is case specific. I had to TinyURL it in order to link there. :( But its fixed.
If you care about zip support, this is not the release for you..
I don't get this release. Ad Hoc was in the last two releases (v1.20 alpha and v1.20 beta). Also there can't be a 20% speedup because it's already fullspeed. This release seems pointless. And people are saying zipped roms aren't supported...They are in v1.20 beta 1...What is the point of this release???

No idea WTF you guys are talking about,it's opening all my zipped roms,and running all of them at 60fps at 222mhz with frameskip set to 0! Great Emulator!!

does anyone know if this emulator can play jackal. i really like that game but it is the one game i cant seem to get to work. thanks for the great work on this emulator
last!!1!one! (at 12:03 eastern time) ---- Im liking these psp homebrew releases, the community is putting forth a considerable effort and releasing some quality stuff! I think its up to two emulators now with wifi net play, not to mention ports like quake and such. Thank you so much devs! Love you guys. My favourite homebrew at the moment is snes9xTYL, but I guess i'll give this one a try too.
i found a problem on my 2.0. when you load a rom like blades of steel the screen goes black and for super mario 3 it doesnt even load
let's figure out kernel mode for 2.70 now so I can play this at least. derrrrrrrr. i can wait though. but $200 for playing mario is way too much
wtf where are the roms on any of these homebrews, i got the neogeo and this one to run butttttt where the **** do they have the roms!!!!!!!

how do i install this to my psp...i have 2.6 firmware sorry i havent installed an emulator on it before
Ruka u rocka. lol man i know u probly dont speaka da englais but still man u have been working ur a$$ off lately really appreciate it bro u need ot move to my nieborhood so me and u can try this cause im the only h-b psp user i know well personally. ;< darnit now i have noone to play mario with noooooooo. but still bud wish i knew half the stuff u know then i might be able to help instead of running through these forums
