NeoGeoThese Japanese developers sure are miracle workers! In an effort to really improve their emulator and the gaming experience of those who download their homebrew emulator, they have come up with the NeoGeo Emulator for PSP Beta, after coming up with 3 Alpha releases.

As you all know by now, this version would be supporting arcade romsets. With that, let's go over to the changelog, tirelessly translated by QJ's very own, Jeff C.

Changes in Beta version:
  • Fixed a bug that froze quite some games. This was an initial miss.
  • Various CPU timer processing changes. A part of the sound-muted games may be fixed now.
  • Several fixes on the memory cache management.
Changes in Alpha 3:
  • File reading method changed from judging from the file name to judging the CRC value of the file. However, the zip file name must be strictly the same with the MAME file name. The database for reading file is stored in "rominfo.dat". Non-working games are also included in this file, but plz never change the content of this file. You may make the program unable to startup by doing so.
  • With the changes above, MAME's clone sets are also possible to load now.
  • Created a swap zone on the memory stick, which made it possible to start large-sized games. However, you will have to use the enclosed converter to convert the sprite data in advance. Yet, the game may be started, but the play speed may not be decent. There may be some potential for optimization, but due to the physical limitations, the current speed has reached its limit.
  • Encrypted ROM sets like "Nightmare in the dark" are now supported. You will have to use the converter to create the cache data in advance. (KOF'99 and etc still not supported due to memory insufficiency.)
  • The following BIOS are now supported: Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.0); Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.1); Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.2); Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 1.3); Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 2.0); Unibios MVS (Hack, Ver. 2.1); Debug MVS (Hack?) Asia AES
Items will not be displayed if you don't have them on the memory stick. Please note that even you've changed the dip switch, Debug BIOS will still not be started in test mode.
  • Compatibility list updated. When using the eLoader, the required 2MB may be a little insufficient, so some games from the list may not be supported.
  • User interface simplified to save more memory for emulation.
How to use the Sprite ROM Converter v0.1:

1. Start the romcnv.exe with a double click in Windows.
2. With the file selection dialog shown, please select the zip file of the game you want to convert.
3. If the conversion is necessary, it should start by now. Yet, if you are trying to convert a clone set, the parent ROM must be present in the same folder.
4. In the cache folder, a file named "gamename_cache.zip" will be created, copy it into /PSP/GAMES/ngepsp/cache on your memory stick.
The original game should be copied in to /PSP/GAMES/ngepsp/roms.
5. Now the game should work properly.

a question

is this the same one as NeoGeo CDZ emulator? are these 2 emulators emulating the same device? and do they use the same file type? the same roms?
by - 2006-06-20 02:57:27
this is a neogeo ARCADE emulator

to #1 this emulates the neo-geo mvs machine. The Neo-Geo CDZ emulates the Neo-Geo CDZ console. Can anyone direct me to a list of working roms for this emulator?

You are going to be waiting a very, very long time then. I'd be surprised if they are ever supported.

Problem with roms

I've tried a rom of some the games listed as "supported" and did not work... like "Neo Drift Out" "Neo Bomberman" "windjammers" I get a CRC32 ERROR, does anyone know how to fix this?¿
by - 2006-06-20 05:40:24
working

Not all games offically supported my mame work with the emulator.
by - 2006-06-20 08:03:43
TO #7

Hey,if its not working you probably don't have the correct bios.they should be neogeo bios for mame at 261kb and if your going to use the uni-bios you need to unzip it and rezip it into the neogeo bios that are 261kb .and make sure you put it in your roms folder

Works good

I tested this on FW 2.6 with eLoader and GTA exploit... I tested the 1.0 version and it worked perfectly... the speed is awesome... totally playable... a save state feature would be nice, but hey... it works. No sound either, but I don't care or usually use it. Good job developers, damn, nice release!

Awesome

Awesome piecee of work. Now my 1.5 is really paying off. Wish it supported KOF series though. Best fighting game ever. I think KOF is far better than Street Fighter. Any1 agrees ?

WOW

Blazing Star and Metal Slug 1,2,3,4,5,X?

When will this emulator support Blazing Star and Metal Slug 1 -5 and X? Those are my Favorite games and I can't play them. :( I tried MS1 but it did not load.
by - 2006-06-20 16:51:17
Sounds a bit complicated.....

Nice work again!! You guys are tirelessly working on these emulators and it's truly an awesome thing. But it sounds like alot of work to get this only half-ass working. I will definitly try to squeeze the most out of this emulator. I may even convert my PSP back to 1.5 if I could get Fatal Fury 2 working. It would take me quite a bit of time to convert all my eboots to 1.5 , as well as test it all again, its taken me months to get everything right.

:L

The older Neogeo CD NEOCDPSP. emu works fine, runs all KOF titles as far as i recall. 'Slong as u have the ISO's & MP3's' . however they are somewhat more difficult to locate than the generic mvs romsets floating about . Oh and Mslug 1, 2 were only released on CD, so u miss X,3,4 & 5 :L

mame or neoCD

am i downloading neo geo mame roms or neogeo CD roms for this?
by - 2006-06-21 06:06:08
bios

i've been using the normal neo geo bios, is it actually better, and/or do more games work with the uni-bios? has anyone had success converting games with the sprite cache thing? and do the converted games work? if so which ones have you found to work with this method?
by - 2006-06-21 06:54:58
Nice!

Good job NJ! If you go at this one like you did the neogeo cd emu, this will be almost perfect in no time.

blazing star works

Hi everyone, I managed to run blazing star on the neogeopsp. Beside the slow intro movies the game runs quite well. Anyone else able to play it?

w00t

This emulator is great! Most of the older stuff ran perfectly w/sound. Anyone having problem running prehistoric isle II and nightmare in the dark? The game boots up,but they're both plagued with garbled graphics. #21- I got Blazing Star up and running and yup,it plays fine!
