MAMEPSP v0.01

MikeDX has released a very early beta of his Multi Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME) for the PSP, MAMEPSP. MikeDX's MAMEPSP is aiming at getting ROMs to run at a playable speed, as the last MAME port for the PSP was released in August last year, and support for different ROMs was sketchy at best.

Although only in version 0.01, MAMEPSP already supports a huge amount of Roms that MakeDX describes as running 'near perfectly'. You can make ROMs run a bit faster by setting your processor speed to 333Mhz, for which I advise using Ahman's iR Shell.

Supported ROMs list:
  • Ping Pong
  • Kung-Fu Master
  • Vulgus (Set 1)
  • Pirate Ship Higemaru
  • Son Son
  • Tetris (set 1)
  • Commando (world)
  • Ghosts'n Goblins (World? set 1)
  • 1942 (set 1)
  • Jr. Pac-Man
  • Pengo (aset 1 rev c)
  • Crazy Climber (US)
  • Jail Break
  • Green Beret
  • Mat Mania
  • Ms. Pac-Man
  • Scramble
  • Amidar
  • PuckMan (Japan set 1)
  • Galaxian (Namco set 1)
  • Track & Field
  • Flicky (128k Ver.)
  • Wonderboy (set 1)
  • Arkanoid (World)
  • Frogger
  • Mario Bros (US)
  • Bagman
  • Space Invaders
  • Bomb Jack (set 1)
  • Lady Bug
  • Mr Do!
  • Mikie
  • Kicker
  • Defender (Red label)
  • Robotron (Solid Blue label)
  • Joust (White/Green label)
This version of MAMEPSP is known to have many bugs, including a bug where the ram may not be freed correctly, but
MikeDX has said that this will be fixed in time for future versions. All ROMs should be placed in the x:/PSP/GAME/MAMEPSP/ROMS directory (Where x is your PSP), and it is advised that you keep them in a ZIP file.

NOTE: QJ.net do not support piracy, and it is illegal to use any ROMS that you do not own.

» Yeah....

How come no psp mame emu supports roms like house of the dead or area 51?

That would be sweet to play on a psp...

Aww, no metal slug? Oh well, *waits for a new version*

Can this or anything else play Street Fighter 3: Third Strike?

by jay-jay - 2006-05-15 02:42
» Galaga?

How come Galaga didn't make it to the ROM list? You got Galaxian, but Galaga is the main game!

by Sedaza - 2006-05-15 02:42
» Sf3?

Buy a Xbox to play Sf3, I do daily since I can remember...

Nothing can emulate CPs 3 so far.

by lusid - 2006-05-15 02:53
» re: Galaga?

Galaga and Galaxian run on different hardware. The galaga board had 3 CPUs. It would likely take ASM cores to get it playable. I hope he gets it playable, but until then Ill be enjoying the williams games...

» I piss on this emu

Damn R kelly loves his xbox for emulators and his psp.. but the psp mame emu's(except for the one released last week) Suck major donkey balls and they are only updated once every year... when will R kelly be able to play Darkstalkers arcade on his psp?? its really necessary..imagine Cps2 arcade handheld while i pee on 15 year old girls..thats R Kelly's dream for america..and to the guy asking about sf3..first off R Kelly hates sf3..second of all the dreamcast has an arcade perfect version of all three sf3 games.

by jovanni - 2006-05-15 03:23
» really

ok first off,i really think u guys should stop tryin' to hate these guys or rush them!and the guy who wants galaga ,there is one runnin' on nes so look to gettin' that one until this gets off runnin' at 50-60% you wont see cps2 or cps1 runnin' until then so learn to relax....REALLY

» sf3 : dont think so...

the guy who asked about street fighter 3, there is a VERY VERY low chance this will work. actually, no chance at all at the moment. this game uses CPS-3 emulation, and CPS-3 encryption hasnt been broken by anyone yet, so this game isnt even playable on PC yet either!

yes R Kelly does refer t himself in third person.. i am not a wankor like r kelly.. i find it humorous to lighten this comment section up by ripping on r kelly... and if u dont like that then i piss on you

by R Kelly - 2006-05-15 05:18
» I need to make something clear

My criticism of this emulator was not directed at the psp author but the real mame team..they are a bunch of douchebags...mame is the most poorly coded emulator ever...the reason the psp ones suck is because the pc one sucks. the mame team make roms unplayable in hopes of making them more "accurate". everytime a new version comes out you have to update your rom sets which is a huge pain in bootay! i apologize if anyone thought i was criticizing a psp emu dev which i would never do... Peace out *****z piss'n on dem behotches

"NOTE: QJ.net do not support piracy, and it is illegal to use any ROMS that you do not own."

news flash weather you like it or not it is illegal to use roms period...even if you own the original hardware....you guys are always lying about something.....i know for a fact that you know that it is illegal but you choose to pretend that its not because of your own opinon...well ignorance of the law doesn't justify you breakin the law...you guys are the biggest hypocites!!!!

» #22

It is obvious that you are still made at me #22... when i came over to your house and peed on all your worldy posessions and your mom..she was so old that the warm yellow liquid just dripped down her wrinkles like a million little canals... it was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen and i saw wham like in '87.... so anyone would be mad like him.. and it is legal to use roms of arcade machines that you own.. it is illegal to mass distribute or sell roms.. infact if you dont own the game you can still download them for non-commercial private use...check the facts ahole....even if they could sue they couldnt get any money unless you sold them

by sega - 2006-05-15 08:07
» early version of mame for psp

I think we should emulate lindbergh games before we even contemplate games like space invaders.

In fact...we should first make the zx spectrum run ps3 games from a cassette.

This is obviously the correct way of thinking

ummmmmmm??????? why dont they? THEY ARE GUN GAMES!!! not to be rude u need a gun to play them

» Zen and The Sony PSP

The Buddha or Godhead resides just as comfortably in the coding of this MAME emulator, or in the circuitry of the Sony PSP as it does in a Lotus tree atop a hill. To think otherwise is to demean yourself, which is to demean the Buddha.

Forgot to mention that you need to create a ROMS folder inside of the MAMEPSP folder and put your zipped roms in there. I had the same error as #34 until i did this.

by hotshot111 - 2006-05-15 19:20

"second of all the dreamcast has an arcade perfect version of all three sf3 games"

your a phucking moron, not1 console version of sf3 lets u do the super jump ala Marvel vs Capcom

not 1 version of street fighter 3 that can be played on a console is "arcade perfect".

"not 1 version of street fighter 3 that can be played on a console is "arcade perfect"."

Ahemm, the Sf3 has super jump, a lot shorter than the M Vs C series ones, but has it.

Second, I spent like 100 US dollars on 2 arcade sticks for my dreamcast that work a lot better than the average arcade stick to play Sf3.

by Darkatomz - 2006-05-16 00:32

this is cool. i really hope this emulaotr gets better and faster.

» EZ MAME

Why dont the DEVs look at how CAPCOM and NAMCO emulated theirs arcade ports to the PSP. Wont this help with a highly compatablie MAME emulator? Atleast with the CP and NAMCO games!!!!! Think about it people ... why try to do the work and recode soemthing that has been done already.

» works on 2.5 = using GTA?

sorry I am new to PSP.

when u say that it works on 2.01 and 2.6 you mean that works using GTA exploit?

by Scotty16 - 2006-05-16 20:37
» Works on FW2.0 with eloader

I've tried this on FW2.0 with eloader 0.97 and it works fine. Some rom problems were solved using ones from mame v0.97 (most I used from a old mame v0.36). 333Mhz does improve some games (Track n Field - speech clearer). Failed to get Defender, Robotron & Joust working (missing files decoder.2 & decoder.3) - is there any Mame experts who can advise (tried Google). Wonderboy also failed with a different missing file.

why dont you read the write up properly and stop asking the same questions, after all its a beta release of an arcade emulator on the psp, so i doubt it will run any game made after about 1990 at a decent speed for quite a while,

and it wont run any game that requires special controllers, like light guns, or rollerballs, or twisty joysticks (for contra etc) use your common sense you bunch of *****gots
