MAME4ALL Ported to PSP

MAME4ALLsasuke2911 has ported Chui's MAME4ALL to the PSP. The release was on a French forum. And since I never paid attention during my French classes in school, please excuse me. I've translated his release notes using Babelfish.

He has tested the emulator with 2 ROMs. Although the menu is using the whole PSP Screen (480x272), the games will only use a resolution of 320x240. The ROMs must be put at the root of the Memory Stick. And the root isn't the MP_ROOT folder, it's the drive which you open in My Computer. So if your PSP is at F: then your root is F: itself.

Plus, there's also a preview version of NeoGeo and CPS1. Be sure to check them out as well. CPS1, by the way, is known as Capcom Play System 1, which Capcom debuted in 1988.

» latest & greatest versions

You should probably refer to the rars that are MAME4ALL Beta 2 post I started within PSP Homebrew thread as it contains the latest executable & source for beta 2 "mame4all_8_5". It has control fixes and video fixes + more....

http://forums.qj.net/showthread.php?t=50438

Lastly place all your roms in "ms0:/roms" and it only supports CPS1 & NeoGeo & System16 (sega I believe)

by SamuraiX - 2006-05-10 06:00
» and...

You only need to download mame4all_8_5.rar it will play all three systems. You don't have to download them seperately.

Why not thank these guys for programing and releasing for free. Unless you start paying these guys for their time YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN... Especially POST 11... you are an @ss

Of course it is your firmware. There's no way to play homebrew on 2.7, only 2.6 and down.

by Johnhoe **********a - 2006-05-10 07:19
» Yeah BABY!

Hey I got "Knights of the Round" to work. I was considering getting the Capcom collection with this game in it but didnt want to upgrade my 1.5 PSP just for this game. The game is pretty playable....Oh yeah for those who get the blue screen....make a "ROMS" folder in your root folder of your memory stick...so when you open the memory stick, you should see "PSP" "MP_ROOT" and "ROMS". And to think I want to sell my PSP because there hasn't been any game draws my attention lately, with all these great emulators coming out, I might just keep it around for a while until the right offer comes around.

» Capable to run DREAMCAST Roms?

Maybe it's a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway: Is there a chance that MAME4ALL runs Dreamcast roms? I mean there's a dreamcast drawn on that screen but no one has posted a comment relying on that question. So that's why I'm wondering.

Well I guess I better figure it out by myself. I just don't have a clue where to find any DC roms? Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

by rickshaw - 2006-05-10 07:44
» thank you

thanks dude.

making a ROMS folder in root fixed my blue screen pronlem. The roms i tried worked well too, and a decent speeds.

Excellent work on this emulator!!!!

by jimbo - 2006-05-10 07:50
» wtf

ok, i have some "mame" roms that i tried (put into the roms folder) and that's it. Didn't work....the files inside were three and it was zipped (does this support zipped)?

21a-1-5

21a-3

and so on.....

what's the deal---i don't have the neo bias in the folder either---where does that go?

by Juan Cheeseburger - 2006-05-10 07:55
» .......

>Stromberg.....Actually from what I know, MAME4ALL the port of MAME to the Dreamcast using the same source for MAME on the GP2X/GP32 systems. That's why it has the Dreamcast pictured.

by @ 16 - 2006-05-10 08:02
» Other way around....

Actually, it's the other way around. The Dreamcasts relavancey here is that this program is an emulator for the DC, which has been ported to the PSP now. It does not emulate DC roms. It emulates SYSTEM16, CPS1 and TMNT roms.

However, I do wish and hope for the day someone can figure out a DreamCast emulator for the PSP. I mean, I don't know of the PSP is powerful enough for not for it. But if you look at the PSP for a second you'll notice that the PSP is a Dreamcast controler, only the stick and the D-Pad are reversed.

So, assuming someone could pull off coding a DC emulator, controls would be no problem. It would be just like the original, and for a menu button they could just use select, as the DC never had a select button.

» CPS1 and Neo-geo ONLY

This version of mame ONLY runs CPS1 and Neogeo roms.

Wonderboy and Bubble Bobble will have to wait.

» Thanks for your help guys!!

Thank you for your answers. That's actually all I wanted to know ;).

by Amaru - 2006-05-10 08:14
» Nyaa~ Nice port. :3

@22 Actually the Dreamcast controller's L and R are analog but otherwise it is indeed suitable enough as a layout.

Anyway, nice port. Hope to see it evolve nicely. :3

» Neat;

Save the NeoGeo Emulation for 'neocdpsp' , it owns and the framerate is great. Sound is a bonus.

You just have to have NEO-GEO CD Images is all

» Ninja Vanish !!! >_

Acording to the compatabilty list, Ninja Turtles was compatable with Mame4all. I havent been able to get it to work yet. :( Is it compatable with the PSP version yet, if so, how would i be able to get it to work on the PSP ?? I tried putting ROMS at the root, but i get the blue crash screen. Would i need to get the bin, if so which one ?? Its not a System16, cps1 or neo geo game. Thanks in advance !! ^_^

» MAME ROM'S

I Guess you'd first off have to start by finding out what MAME port they are using under this emulator, Depending on the Build version to match the Romset.

If you find the Build number and the Romset that matches the Build number you may have a better chance at getting it to work.

» Question...

How is it that some people can play this on a 1.5, whilst others, including myself, only get a frozen screen?

ROMS's folder with zipped rom's are in root of mem stick. Have tried d/loading this from 3 different sites, and the same thing happens.

Is there anything unique to those PSP's that get this running?

by M-Lin - 2006-05-11 10:54
» Answer (maybe)

I think it's the roms you're trying - try ghouls and ghosts zipped where the file name is "ghouls" - works great for me

by magpi - 2006-05-11 18:49
» Question answered :)

Yep! That worked. It was the type/version of ROM. I had (for example) gng.zip in the ROMS folder rather than ghouls.zip. All fine now :)
