MAME GP2X v4.7 PSP - compatible with PSP Slim & Lite |
Ó
Homebrew developer Cpasjuste dropped by QJ.NET PSP Development Forum and announced that he was able to make MAME4ALL compatible with the new PSP Slim and Lite. For the uninitiated, MAME stands for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. The build ported by Cpasjuste is TTYman's latest take on the project. Aside from the upgrade compatibility features, MAME GP2X v4.7 PSP for PSP Slim works exactly the same as MAME4ALL v4.7. With that said, here are some of the worth mentioning features of the said version:
- Based on latest GP2X MAME4All releases v4.7 & 4.6
- 480 Orizzontal Hires Support in menu and games, now games with >320 pixels are playable (Loderun etc.)
- Overclock support, from 166 to 333 MHz
- Frameskip as GP2X version (fixed 0-5, auto 1-5)
- Vsync on/off
- Save configuration support, default and per game
- Autocentering fix for most games when using FIXED/FIXED DIV2
- Optimized compiled code as derived from GP2X version, but for PSP cpu (fastest graphics core!)
- Stripped & Packed executable, only 2MB
- New Graphic theme from mame.net logo (TM) and mameworld.com Tim's covers (n.1 and n.2)
- Graphic theme 480x240 BMP skins support, both pspmenu480.bmp and pspsplash480.bmp in folder skins

Very nice. I was wondering when this would arrive. Thanks Cpasjuste
I am greatful for the active work being done. MAME is the king of emulators, I hope that it can get to where other PSP emulators are. thank you!
Which games work well? I was also wondering if a version of this with good working roms was posted on the newsgroups yet.
i have posted a download here:

um typo?? its compatible on psp slim and lite? lol hmmm i so theres 3 different ps3 versions now lol
I was really hoping this would be better. Most games don't load. I am using a verified GPX mame set (4.6). Some games actually load, but play either way too fast or way too slow! It seems the only way to ajust this is to add frameskipping or lowering the CPU speed. Why is there no 60fps limit like even the most basic emulators have? The few games that do load only last a few seconds before locking up and shutting off the PSP. I hate to complain about free emulators, but I really had hopes for MAME on the PSP. After 2 years of development I thought they would have at least some old games working bug-free. My 30MHz digital camera still plays MAME better than my PSP.. and that aint right! Please dev people help out with a decent MAME port for the PSP.
I have tried this on the new lite I bought yesterday, It runs older games like galaxians and moon cresta way to fast, totally unplayable, even with cpu speed on 133 and video speed set at 30%. the psp fat version plays older games better than the lite version, just incase your wondering. Still a long way to go with this emulator, I wish someone would take it under there wing, someone like ZX81 and thrash it until it cried! still, it's nice to see this emulator raised from the ashes and 1941, 1942, 1943 all run really well on phat and lite versions.
