DOSbox v0.71 patch - high level emulation of dpmi |
Ó
If you're a retro gamer, then you'll probably be interested to know that homebrew developer CrazyC has just rolled out a new update for DOSBox v0.71. This application should allows users to play old DOS games on your PSP.
The developer tried to run SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter on his handheld with this build. While the games did run, they did so at a very slow rate. Thus, some major optimization will be needed if you expect to run anything but the most basic of games.
Since this is a patch for DOSbox v0.60, there isn't any documentation included. Here is CrazyC's post on the forums that should explain most questions on the program:
This patch, when applied to DOSbox 0.60 and linked with these library functions, arwin's p-sprint and SDL (with 8-bit surface patch), gets DOSbox running on the psp. Later versions use an array too large to fit in the PSP memory for indexing memory pages while this version has high level emulation of dpmi.
I've tested SimCity 2000 and Tie Fighter and they run although very slowly, a lot of optimization will be need if this will be usable. Note that stat fails if the root of the memory stick is what is being checked therefore it cannot be mounted. Mounting ms0:/psp works fine though. Also there is currently no mouse or joystick support.
So download the files and try it out. Be advised though that it won't be a simple process and some programming knowledge will be necessary for you to make it work.

This is the same release of the last week -__-
I never know how to get this to work properly without someone formatting an EBOOT
why doesnt he start testing this on the less demanding games? like gorrilla, or something REALLY basic... I'd just love to be playing Supercars International on this thing ;) ... even Sim Farm...
Guys, this post doesn't mean anything... applying the patch on version 0.60 was is first post on the subject, months ago. In the title you speak of 0.71 but then your description is about 0.60 ??? WTF ??? everyone, Go see the thread at pspdev.org's forums if you want REAL information...
Compiled binary... http://www.emunews24.de/dosemus.html#sony%20psp257
