Daedalus Updates: Tesselate Large Triangles |

| The large triangles that make up the floor that Mario is standing on are rejected by the PSP, leaving a large hole where the floor should be. By breaking the triangles into smaller pieces before attempting to render them, it reduces the chance that the PSP will decide to discard them. | I started by ripping out all the exisiting polygon clipping and tesselation code and starting from scratch. After a couple of days of hacking I've finally got a replacement system that seems to be clipping everything I've thrown at it perfectly. |
Optimizations was a word we can constantly find on previous articles regarding StrmnNrmn's Nintendo 64 emulator, Daedalus. Most especially on the most recent one with speculations that R8 will be released sooner than we expected due to the large amount of progress that StrmnNrmn's been making.
Now, he makes another one of the optimizations that he keeps on mentioning. Tesselate Large Triangles. Ring any bells? When R7 was released we were advised to set this option to "No" to boost the framerate aside from disabling "Texture Update Check." Of course, in doing so, you sacrifice graphics over speed. Well not anymore. When he started out ripping all the existing codes and starting from scratch, he has come up with an even better solution that the "quick fix" he initially intended. Optimization of his discovery is well on its way of course.
Thanks a whole bunch to Captain Morgan for letting us on the scoop.

this is great news cant wait.what ever happened to psmonkey
keep up the great work
I almost got confused by just reading the title. GReat news BTW, any progress is welcome to be honest, But I won't bother with an N64 emu, I'vemgot an old N64 floating arounf here, I just dig that up and play on it when I feel like an blast from the past. Perfect Dark > Goldeneye. Roll the controvosy.
all this Daedalus progress is just thrilling. we'll have a fully functioning Daedalus in no-time.
soon i'll be able to run roms at halfway-decent speeds with tesselate large triangles enabled. The bugs there are when you turn it off are very annoying. These updates are very interesting to see and i hope R8 comes soon
this emulator is making unbelievable progress...and very quickly. for all those that said a full speed n64 emulator is not possible on a psp, you are witness to the greatness that is daedalus. keep the great work strmnrmn.
booring no one cares.
we care ..... :) and waiting
I LOVE THIS GUY!
nice work! I hope this get to full speed soon
wtf worst emulator ever newbs
Looks like this will never run at full speed, you sillies! Just give up, Daedalus. GIVE UP!!
I know its about a 80% chance we will ever see a full speed n64 emulator for the psp. but maybe we can get one to a playable speed alteast.
Mucho Bueno!
They say stuff like that so someone will argue with them. Anyone with common sense can see that. Just don't give a responce to them.
at least get the wrestling games to wwe/f wcw ecw one of them at least
simply ¡!YUY!¡
nice work ... its moments like this make me a proud psp owner! props on rewriting the whole tringles thing!
This is the question I really wonder about. Perhaps very playable speeds are possible and with some speed hacks the frame rate can be increased. We have all witnessed the greatness of the GBA emulator that was coded from scratch so im really looking to see what Psmonky's N64 emulator will run like in the future since that was coded from scratch too.
Since the emulators that use a bios seem to work pretty darn nice --- does the N64 have a bios that can be used in an emulator? If so are any of the DEVs using the bios method....because I dont remember hhaving to downlaod a bios to play the Daedalus emulator.
Nothing to do with the BIOS, in fact high level emulation of bios calls is faster than using the actual bios itself. just more work.
Sorry but in the screenshot that door is tiny how is that fat headed little plumber gonna fit through there.
Hey it might never be full speed, but I´m sure many games will run at exceptable speeds with some tweaking. lol, so many idiots. Wonder when the emu gets better if they´ll be playing it.
Why didn't you just check out strmnnrmn's blog and get the news yourself http://strmnnrmn.blogspot.com/
No, it is not perfect. Look at his feets..still have some error gfx under it.
Great work dude! Man im playing GBA while waiting for this LOL.
remember in gba emulation most of the peolpe were saying stop wasting your time on the emu, to the devs its never even going to be playable and now a full speed gba emu comes out. if you dont have nothing good to say then dont say it at all. just dont use the emu if you dont like. when the full speed n64 emu comes out just dont play it.
Waiting for Sound...
It has come along way since R1. Keep up the good work :D
to all the ass holes out there thats crying about full speed.incase udidnt notice the emulator dosnt need to play games at full speed for the games to feel like there running full speed.incase u didnt notice all n64 games when played on the orignal system are very fuc**ng fast,so even if the emulator only reaches 30-40frames per sec thats good enough to any gamer..dont believe me try mario cart 64 with the speed hack version go on a ghost race an tell me if 18 frames per sec dosnt feel sweet n very playable.
#28 The reason Qj thanked me is because they are very busy and didn't notice that StrmnNrmn updated his site. I tipped them off and told them and they made this article about it, and then thanked me for the tip. Yes anyone can see that his site updated but Qj is very busy and some times they can't get ALL the news out as fast as possible.
Look at the progress we have made with the GBA. Now we have gbSP 0.5 running some games at near full speed. A little tweaking and no doubt every game will run perfect. Same thing with this emu. Look at the progress he has made so far on this. Now with this news people are really expecting great things. I dont get the negativity here this nothing short of genius and should be commended.
those are some sweet lightbox or w/e it's called effects on the pictures QJ. Maybe I've just never noticed it before on the site but it's cool that you're updating it to be faster and more intuitive. and yay for n64 emu. I wanna run 007 GoldenEye but have heard that it causes problems even on pc n64 emus so I guess I'll just stick to my actual n64 for that. :P
oh and Kuffoman sucks my huge......
I didn't understand a thing he mentioned, but if it makes the emulator better, then good job! xD
No, 18fps does not seem very fun
somebody call the care police *rolls eyes*
