StrmnNrmn sent us an email recently that really got us thinking about how far Daedalus has come from its humble beginnings more than a year ago. Not only does he give us some prime information about the direction of Daedalus, but he also mentions just how long it might take him to actually get everything running properly.

Here's the important information he tipped us off to, which you guys might be interested in knowing. He writes, "R13 might actually use Bios files now. I figured this might take 3 more years to develop to run almost perfect, so I will use Bios files to help me on my Daedalus PSP Project."

Three years folks. That's a lot of dedication from the StrmnNrmn, and we're certainly glad to have him around. To all the folks out there who are fans of his work, you may want to send some love his way because the way of the homebrew developer is long and tiring.

In any case, his email leads us to believe that a formal update on Daedalus R13's status is incoming, so you may want to check out his website periodically. In the meantime, you guys may want to try out Daedalus R12, the current build of his N64 emulation program.

What DAX was doing was different then StrmnNrmn, I was shocked when I read 3 years to develop fully. How did R12 work? With the BIOS or without?

I agree, it seems strange that he is now shifting to using a bios file after so much work trying to get it to run without one. I was sure that he was purposly avoiding this so he could keep it legit. I spose that if this is true its a good thing though, remember how much better the gba emulator got after a bios was used.

I'm amazed StrmnNrmn didn't think to use a BIOS file before, it would have made it easier from the start.

I think StrmnNrmn meant that at his current pace it would take him at least 3 years to make things run almost perfect, so he's going to use bios files to speed things up.

Please read this, you will be excited. When you click this link, http://000url.com/money you will go to a website that will show you how to sign up for another website that pays you 2 - 45$ (PER) to do surveys, sign up for trial offers, and test products.

Companies such as ebay pay CC to have people try their offers, and when you complete an offer, CC simply passes the money onto you. By spending an average of 3-4 hours a week on cascrate,

I have made 472$ in April, 412$ in May, and 271$ (SO FAR) in June. You get paid in real checks from "KINGSIDE MEDIA" every month that you earn 10 dollars or more. It may seem too good to be true,

but I assure you it IS true. Also, with their referral program, you can refer people by sending them your link (you get when you sign up) and for every buck they earn, you get 20 cents also! (Think how much money you can make if you have 100 people making five bucks a day)

You do not have to enter your credit card or social security number. Nothing Harmful can come from CC. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE 18 OR OLDER, I AM 15 YEARS OLD AND REFERRING PEOPLE, AND I MAKE THIS MUCH MONEY A MONTH

JUST SPENDING A COUPLE MINUTES A DAY ON THE COMPUTER! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THIS.

Think it's a scam? Read this(from the website) "We assure you that this is not a scam! Companies need consumers to try and review products, services, and websites and are willing to pay money to have them do so.

Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation, what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 75% of it!"

There are alot of websites like this, I have tried almost all of them and this really is the best, and legit one.In addition there is a new UK section opened with more then $200 worth of free offers!

It means that without the usage of the N64 BIOS files, it would take 3 years, so he intends to use them to reduce that number.

Now if he makes a modified r12 that uses bios that should run most games full speed or close to it. I remeber GPSP's first version out did all the emulaters up to that point.

lol right now my psp and n64 do the same things cause on my n64 the sound dont work.

maybe my psp will be better at playing games than my n64!

# Two things to consider:Guest 2007-07-03 05:27
1) StrmnNrmn mentioned he was going on holiday to Spain right after he released R12. That was less than a week ago, so it's safe to say he hasn't returned home to the UK yet, as he would have mentioned SOMETHING on one of his blogs.

2) Read the quote QJ put up from StrmnNrmn. Read it again. Now read ANY post on his blog. The vocabulary is completely different. Capitalization as well - Bios? BIOS. StrmnNrmn is a coder (and an amazing one at that). Syntax is everything.

A Nintendo BIOS is illegal to distribute (GBA anyone?) so with all the concern over DAX, why on earth would StrmnNrmn decide to go this route NOW?

I think QJ has been had, I wonder if they know that the word "gullible" is not in the phone book.

P.S. StrmnNrmn mentioned he was going to Spain.... where DAX lives. Conspiracy theorists unite!

Even if it does take 3 years, he would only be saying this as 100% perfect. every n64 game could work perfectly WAY before then. its just to acuratly match his emu to that of a real n64 would take years. thats all. look how far it is now...and you know SUPRISES will happen as he programs it, he will discover new work arounds etc etc. bottom line, 3 years to make a perfect n64 emulator for the psp. less than 3 years to get all your favorite games working perfectly fine. so nothign changes here. as R13 will make more games work, R14 the same. but yah that would be funny if he planned it this way from the get go and just didnt tell us. R64 [Release Build 64] lmao hell i would be happy with R20 lmao

How the hell could the N64 NOT have a BIOS. If it didnt, how the hell would it know how to start a game cartridge? Or read a memory card? Every machine needs a bios to interface directly with the hardware. Even my *****in dvd player has a BIOS.

From someone who has read the whole official dev manual. There is startup code, but if it was not emulated in some way no game would start (it's in the header of every ROM). The N64 has no BIOS. What little OS there is is statically linked to the binary. A BIOS file makes no sense at all.

# uhhhhhGuest 2007-07-03 11:31
The NES does not have a BIOS, the start vectors are in ROM, 6502s start executing at the address at $FFFC. I don't remember where the R4300i starts, but the bootup code is well emulated by just about every emulator. There is no BIOS on the N64. All a BIOS does is provide routines that access memory mapped IO. On IBM PC, interrupt 10 just messes with the VGA hardware mmio.

Basic Input Output System

It allows you to basically access the hardware for whatever system you are working on. This is true for any type of computer. Yes Video game systems are computes as well.

Yes, but it merely provides routines that access the memory mapped io of the system. If you look at the GBA, swiWaitForVblan k call is just a spin wait on the mmio register (probably 0x4000000) that has a bit that indicates Vblank. The N64 has no BIOS. It does have an OS of sorts, a nintendo provides library of code that is statically linked with the game ROM.
