N64It's been quite some time since we have heard something about N64 emulator for PSP">Daedalus, the most-talked about N64 emulator from dedicated dev, StrmnNrmn. Since there is no doubt that StrmnNrmn is one of the best, it wouldn't be too long until other devs come out to try continue his legacy. If you can't beat 'em, then join 'em, right?

And join he did. What are we talking about here? Homebrew developer Windmill recently released a mod of StrmnNrmn's Daedalus R8. His work? Daedalus R-8 for Dark_AleX's 2.71 HEN D. This is what Windmill had to say:

For those who dont know, Patchsfo is an app that runs on your psp and mods the eboots found under psp/game to run with xloader...On seeing this, i downloaded patchsfo and patched the 1.0 eboot of daedalus r-8 and found it to work with 2.71 HEND.

So if there are any HEN D users out there who haven't been exposed to the joys of StrmnNrmn's N64 emulator, Windmill just helped you out with that one. Anyhow, download link's down there, kudos to Windmill! And to Strmn, we miss you a lot already. Have fun you guys!

Well, we can never tell. There might be some who are sticking to HEN D instead of downgrading or something. :) BTW, thanks for the comment.

How many people actually use the WIP N64 emulators? Tbh, it's a waste of space on the MS until it's completed..

Well, I hate to break it to everyone waiting for n64 emulation on the psp, but it won't happen with this emulator.

Daedalus was a buggy, incomplete emulator for the pc, and there's no reason it will be any better for the psp. StrmnNrmn has a history of losing interest in his projects and letting them sit for YEARS.

There a far better emulators for the pc already, unfortunately, the devs dont seem too concerned about porting them to the psp. ie: Project64 and 1964.

The original, unmodded daedalus r8 worked in HEN-D. And he did no work by himself whatsoever, so How can it be called a mod?

The developers need feedback to continue the hard work. They are making this for free.

wtf kind of release is this, everyone downgraded, and the emulator still sucks, if we were desperate enough to play this we could use 3.02 OE-B

For Real 1964 runs so good on the PC i wish they'd port it over to the PSP ... Daedalus has been slow still is slow and most of the good games that i'd play don't even work yet.

Why bother with a crap pc emulator wich will send its sewage even further down the drain when trying to half-ass port it to the psp? I know that the better devs out there can accomplish near full speed with a better port like PJ64 etc. If the psp can run psx cd images at full speed, there is little doubt that the same can be achieved with a cartridge image.

Even though most of us love the n64, I Highly doubt any will really contribute to this because of the fps 5-10? Give me a break, that is officially UNPLAYABLE no matter what anyone says.

I'm not flaming or anything, but after what... 6 months? and no progress, I think most of us have lost hope on the

Daedalus project, and its developer =(

anyone agree?

From the original releases it appears that this emulator was never going to progress past 10~15fps, even excluding sound.. with sound added that takes resources to emulate other CPU's.. so this emulator is basically a dead dog.

the comments about psx emulation on the psp and being easy to emulate a cart is a bit of a lame comment. the N64 hardware is nowhere near as easy to emulate as the 33mhz PS1 system.

One thing I've never quite understood about nintendo psp emulation:

Nintendo: works perfectly on psp

Gameboy/gb color: works perfectly on PSP

Super Nintendo: games like tactics ogre, mario rpg and ff6 experience UBER slowdown.

Gameboy Advance: works perfectly on psp

N64: ~10 fps.

Now I'm confused as to how the GBA emulator works better than the SNES one. This might indicate that a fullspeed n64 emulator is possible. But the compatibility is horse feces atm, anyway... what like 4 games are actually playable? Gay porn 500.

The reason why GBA on PSP is so fast is because Exophase coded it extremely extremely well (JIT coding). The authors of SNES TYL even admitted that they could speed up 4.2 by using JIT coding, but they didn't have the time nor the heart to do it. It's definitely a shame, as there are many great games (like the 4 you mentioned) that will never play full-speed on PSP.

The good news is that Tactics Ogre is already on GBA and PS1, and FF6 is coming to GBA (and thus PSP :)

Wait a few years and more interest in homebrew and emulation will get picked up by devs wanting to try new things. SNES barely works at full speed, but I bet in a few years it will run full speed, no problem, every rom thrown at it. Hopefully by then we will have something like the SNES emulator now but N64 instead. Daedalus will never be able to do it, but some other dev may :).

Now if only they figured out Saturn emulation. Ahhhh that'll never happen.
