Ó

CPS2A few weeks after NJ released the last beta version of his newest conquest, the CPS2PSP emulator. He has finally unleashed the fruits of his labor with the first ever version of the CPS2PSP; and no, he has not debunked rumors that he is an advanced supercomputer and not a live, human being. Perhaps, he just doesn't have the time for all that senseless blabbers since he's just so busy perfecting this emulator.

But regardless of his real identity, we think that everyone will agree with us when we say that this guy churns out amazing emulators. NJ also released a kernel mode version of CPS2PSP ver.1.0, but before we go there, let's first focus our attention to the changelog:
  • romcnv.exe was renewed to ver.5. Referring to details converter/readme.txt.
  • The mask processing of sfa2 and progear re-correction.
  • Correcting the mask processing of the opening demonstration of sfa3.
  • Correcting the trouble which the character name of msh is indicated to the rear of the character.
  • Because with mmatrix it has frozen after the name entry, correction.
  • Decreasing the size of cash file of mmatrix.
  • Correcting the mask processing of the ending of dimahoo.
  • The prayer number of people which are set with [sabisumeniyu], value of the coin input port just in the input button
  • Way it reflects, correction.
  • The specification of zipname.dat a little modification.
  • Empty memory approximately 1MB increase. (As for Kernel Mode edition approximately 1.5MB increase)
  • Initial value of AUTO Flameskip modification to OFF.
We have to admit that our Japanese is useless, so if someone could hook all us up with a translated readme.txt, that would be really nice.

Going back to the CPS2PSP ver.1.0 kernel mode, NJ mentioned some info that eLoader users should take note of. When you're using this under the TIFF loader, you should add the text below to the appropriate file.

I have a 1.5 psp and i've tested a few games with this new version and the games that had a bit of slowdown before do seem to be running faster (eg sfa3, mvsc)

I also don't understand what the kernal mode version is

so if somebody could explain, thanks.

The rom that you're trying to run does not work. All you need is the clone of this rom "mshvsfu1".

Just get "mshvsfu1" which is the US version of the game and it will work fine. Make sure you have both roms "mshvsf" and "mshvsfu1" in your roms folder.

Hope this helps you out son...

is anyone else having this problem? im trying to get the cache files for my roms, but everytime i drag any rom into the convert program, i get an error saying"error rominfo.dat not found" i was trying my roms from beta5 version of cps2,which btw, all the roms i have there worked.and still i wouldget that error, so i DLed one of the roms all over again, and still the same error. can anyone tell me why im getting this? i cant see what im doing wrong, isn it the same steps like the previous cps2 betas? take the rom drag it into the romconv program in converter folder. take the cache from that folder stick it into the cache folder in your psp/game and the rom and clone roms go into your rom folder.these are the correct steps so why am i having problems with it?

For those who don't know what this means, code that runs in kernel mode (i.e. the PSP OS/firmware) is protected by the PSP hardware (CPU). Code running in user mode (games, apps) cannot access memory used by the kernel.

This means that at the moment, unsigned code can only access things that games/apps can access, such as the screen output, sound output and button/d-pad input. Unsigned code can only be run in the area of memory exploited by the buffer overflow (64Kb). In order to allocate enough RAM to run proper homebrew (e.g. emulators) kernel access is required. Only kernel code can allocate memory to user processes (homebrew). This is where we are at the moment. In order to get a fully exploited system, the kernel needs to be attacked. Then the PSP will be under total control of the homebrew code.

There are different layers of protection between user mode and kernel mode. Think of it as an onion where kernel mode is the core and user mode is the outer layer. As you remove the layers and move up privilige levels, you get closer to the kernel. You can make system calls in user mode which instruct the kernel to do various things but these calls are always controlled by the kernel and are not easy to exploit. By using system calls, it is possible to increase your privilige level and get closer to the kernel (peeling the layers from the onion). This will however take time and a lot more hardcore hacking to achieve.

# Full SpeedGuest 2006-09-22 12:20
Yes, this looks fantastic.

Heres a tip for everyone. you may notice that there is ALOT of access to the memory stick during emulation, so if your seeing alot of slowdown and you also see the memstick access light going nuts then the speed problem might not be caused by the emulator but by your memory stick.

Its commom knowledge that sandisk ms' have faster access rates, if you got one but dont have this emu on it, try that out.

This is a fantastic emulator. very sexy :)

Can I use MAME clone files next to my CPS ROMS?

Do both files have to be CPS originals in order for this to work on NJ's emu?

Do I have to create to versions of Cache, one clone version, one rom version as well, or only one version from the ROM and not the clone?

Any hints as to were I could find good CPS R#$MS?

Thanks for the support!
