ColEmI was a ColecoVision lover as a child, in fact, I still have my ColecoVision console in my closet, so this is really exciting for me! Venture, The Smurfs and Zaxxon were my favorite ColecoVision games when I was 10 years old. I totally can't wait to try this new emulator on my PSP!

ColEm is a great ColecoVision emulator that was written by Marat Fayzullin. He designed it for Unix type systems so it had to be ported to work on the PSP. ZX-81 completed the port to PSP and he did the porting using Linux - and thus PSPColem was born! The emulator runs on PSP firmware 2.5 using the eLoader.

According to his site the emulator should also work on other PSP firmwares and he has integrated a 1.5 binary version (KXploit). While this is still a beta version and has some work needed in the future (including saves and sound support) it is very exciting to see that someone has decided to work on getting the ColecoVision emulator working on PSP. Source is included and the release is GPled. Read the included text file for instructions and more information about the release.

speed

is it running like extremely fast for anyone else? I have it at the lowest setting (222) and the games are just ripping fast, almost unplayable. Will there be a way to slow it down in the future?
by zx-81 - 2006-05-26 13:04:58
@6

Yes it's a bit too fast, you have to set the frameskip option to 50% or 75% (it will then display more frame than needed, and it will slow down the emu).

OMG

ZX, now you've done it. I freakin love you. ColecoVision was my first owned console. Does this support the addon thing as well? Anyways, awesome!

wow

I can think of a whole slew of times when I looked over at my wife and said.. "Yea, it would be tight to play some smurf on coleco right now...". And alas.. people still make this possible..... :) Awesome work.

good to see it!

I am glad to see that other people remember and like ColecoVision. It was my second system (after atari 2600 of course). I had everything for it. The 2600 addon, the skiing pad, driving thingy and lots and lots of carts. I truly loved that thing. I still have mine in my closet but unfortunately it doesn't work anymore, so I am really grateful to ZX for creating this. I'm gonna try the Linux one on my computer too. this is great!

lightbulb!

congrats on another awesome emu and now i ask this question: why doesnt zx-81 work on the n64 emu cause at the speed he puts out emus we would prolly have a speedy one by saturday the source for daedalus and m64 have been released so its just a question out of my own curiosity

sweet, the framerate trick worked perfectly. This guy should put out an Intellevision emulator too, then my life would be complete.
by - 2006-05-26 13:50:10
awesome

Time to play some Carnival!! @4, I KNOW you are too young to remember this console by that comment alone. @12, I agree, Intellivision should be coming soon. :)

totally awesome

THis guy makes a quality Colecovision emu on the first try. this looks great for a first release, and as soon as the speed issues get ironed out, and the sound gets thrown in, and all the bugs get taken out, its gonna be SWEEET. and yea an intellivision emu would make me complete. well, when THIS is 100%, and the intellivision emu comes out, and when the ps1 emu gets released, and when Daedalus is done, THEN I'll be complete. with my 8 gig crd and ALL my roms. (that is if the 8 gig card works on the PSP (it might not)
by - 2006-05-26 14:07:53
ya

^^ yea.. that's right.. that's all I need is this psp.. and these roms. and thats all I need.. And this remote control... and this lamp.... "the jerk" is the best movie ever

FINALLY!

Thank you good sir, for giving us the hope of a fullspeed ColecoVision emulator on the PSP. Been waitin a WHILE for this one to get started, can't wait to see more updates in the future.
by - 2006-05-26 16:30:52
Thank you for bringing Colecovision to the PSP!

Wow, I didn't know so many users were all into the Smurf, it's not like this was the best game on the system, not by a long shot. Perhaps you have a Smurfette fetish? ;) But really, I can't wait to play some of the better games like Donkey Kong Jr., Mr. Do., Congo Bongo, and Carnival. Those were the gems. If you want a real nice Smurf game, check out the Genesis version. Smurfette looks much prettier. :D

I have never heard of this!!

I love seeing new emulators released for the Psp because with each new one that is of a high quality, it shows the true potential of the Psp. It is quite simply the emulator King.

Sound

Is there a sound in the emulator? I can't hear it even if it is enabled in the option menu.
by zx-81 - 2006-05-27 06:05:58
@20

There is no sound support in this version ;) ...
by zx-81 - 2006-05-28 01:54:24
sound support

a new version of PSPColem is now available with sound support :)
