It's been a while since we last heard about CaSTaway, skeezix's own Atari ST emulator for the Sony PlayStation Portable, with the last update about him reporting on the soon-to-be-released Build 006. Now, he gives a reason for all retrogamers blessed with Sony's handheld to rejoice, as the highly-anticipated Build 006 of CaSTaway has not only been rolled out, but it also sports the improvements he promised! Awesome!

So, what's new with this version? We'll let skeezix take care of that for us, via the changelog found in the readme file that comes with the downloadable archive. Here it is:

Release 006:
  • A new build environment with fresher toolsets .. back in business for PSP development.
  • Fixed some menu display issues (font clipping, spacing of text and other trivialities).
  • Fixed some minor emulation issues that caused Dungeon Master to crash deep in the game, which hopefully fixes some things in other games too.
  • Mostly version 006 gets me back in the game, and works for the Slim very nicely. Hopefully for Fat too, or I'll have to produce a build for each.
Not only is it guaranteed to work on the PSP Slim and on 3.71 firmware, but also it got skeezix back into the scene. And we all know that's reason enough to celebrate, having a dedicated homebrew developer come back willingly into the fray. In any case, enjoy the download, and make sure to read the readme file before doing anything.

skeezix's your a genius!

I was awaiting this emulator's advancement, you announced you were going start working on it again a week or so ago.

just tried it out and the main improvement is your improved listing of games, major difference, no more mixed up text! lovely.

I always loved the quality sound from your emulator, nice and clear, with good sound.

some games still run a little out of sync though, even when switching to uk. barbarian (head chop) still runs to fast.

thanks for the update and good luck!
