Capcom CPS2

Japanese coding juggernaut NJ has released yet another version of his CPS2 test Emulator for the PSP, updating it to version 4 and fixing a sound bug. Although NJ was actually planning to give up on this project due to numerous bugs and the slowdown caused by the PSPs limited hardware, he's still weathering each storm and has been continually dishing out updates. We have here a playable version and works well with most ROMS we just tried on it, save for some of the fighting games which have been a problem for the creator ever since he began doing this.

This one surely has gone a long way compared to its initial release, which saw father-of-Neogeo-emulators NJ himself doubting if he could work out a solution to some of the earlier problems he has encountered. Well that just shows us how much of a perfectionist he is, cause as good as it is now, he's still feeling a li'l bit unsatisfied with its performance, particularly on some fighters. We saw him perform magic a couple of times already, our faith tells us he'll have a full-functioning emulator pretty soon. Remember, NJ has brought us the Capcom CPS1 emulator beta, the NEOGEO Emulator amongst many others, just believe!

Has pspupdates even tried the emulator? Stop saying it\'s unplayable if most roms (other than the lastest csp2 games) work great.

Go To This Website if you are Unsure About the Parent, & Clones Files:

http://www.mameworld.net/maws/

-Go to the right of that PAGE and you'll see "DRIVER"

-Next Search for "cps2.c" and hit SEARCH

-There you will find all the Parent and Clone Files for the CPS2

v4 - I haven't even had a chance to install 3...and v1 would have been fine as a final release! Every game I have tried loads and plays well. There are some slow downs, but not enough to make a rom even close to unplayable. This is one of the (if not the) best emus I have ever seen. Install it, you will not be disappointed. NJ, you are a perfectionist - you did a great job on this! Please work on other MAME emus!

# How to Play CPS2 Roms "parent and clones"Guest 2006-08-06 14:06
1. This is a PARENT FILE: mvsc "Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (Euro 980112)" [parent files are usually bigger than the clone files, example. mvsc=21.6 MB]

2. Get & convert that PARENT file into a CACHE file

3. This is a CLONE FILE: mvscu "Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (US 980123)" [clone files are usually smaller than the parent files, example. mvscu=1.93 MB]

4. Take both PARENT & CLONE Files and put them into the GAME/CPS2/roms

5. Take the CACHE File and move it into the GAME/CPS2/cache

6. Start Yor Emulator and Play Away....

[Note: If you have done these step and you see two of the same game in color WHITE & GRAY, that means, you have done these steps correctly. Also You Must have both File in the ROM folder no Matter What. Including the CACHE file in the CACHE folder.]

there some issue with the rom, for ex, it lag alot which make it unplayable sometimes but i hope he fix it. all games under 20mb work lag free and play smooth. 20mb and up lag a little but u need to go to menu and back untill the game play smooth.

# Use the Converter to create the CacheGuest 2006-08-06 17:55
@22 the reason for the errors is that the PSP runs out of memory. In order to workaround this you need to use the converter thats included to make a cache dump of the rom that you want to play and then create a subfolder cache on your PSP to play them.

# @30Guest 2006-08-06 18:06
Thanks, I found that out... some of these games run well. MvsC jap runs but i found that some of the gfx is screwed up and sometimes the PSP has to load some of the sprites frames which can make the game run slow the first time around cuz it doesnt seem to load ALL the frames only when they're called for. AvsP is the best game i think, they shoulda made more like that... wayyyyyyyyy more

All of you whining about not being able to play every fighting game from every known region are complete idiots. ALL GAMES WORK, JUST PICK A REGION THAT WORKS!!!

NJ is the king of PSP programming. His initial objective was to get Aliens vs Predator and D&D working ONLY. Look at how much he's done for us with this AMAZING emulator. Simply amazing....

Both CPS-1 and CPS-2 emus are PERFECT.

THANKS NJ!!!!

To anyone who's got SSF2T working - how did you create the cache for this ROM? When I try, I get

Clone set (parent: ssf2)

ERROR: CRC32 not correct. "GFX1"

I can get it to work by just renaming the cache file for ssf2 but then some of the sprites are missing.

# SSF2T does work . . .Guest 2006-08-06 20:38
I got SSF2T to work by creating a cache for it, even though it's under 10MB. Those of you having trouble might want to give that a shot . . .

As everyone has mentioned, all of the ROMS do work, but some suffer from lag due to the limited memory capacity of the PSP.

So if anything, I'm sure the author wants to optimize it. Can't blame him for being a perfectionist . . . I'm sure most of us can appreciate that.

# Keep it simple, just play the parent romsets..Guest 2006-08-06 21:33
Keep it simple. Tip: given all the variations of one specific game, see to download and play the bigger version, which is the parent. The clones are usually smaller, as they are a subset of the parent rom.

This emulator is truly great.

I play all games with auto frameskip=off, frameskip 2, and 11050 hz audio, stretch 14:9 (not quite full screen).

Works perfectly. Only slow on newer stuff, like Street Fighter Alpha 3. Alpha 2 works perfectly though.

WRONG! The emu crashes when loading games if run via the TIF exploit, BUT it works fine when using the GTA exploit!! I assume this will be true for 2.5/2.6 also, I'll try on my bro's 2.6 and let you know.

THANKS NJ! I never thought this emulator would happen.

Mybad These Games Does WORK

just Convert SSF2T "Super Street Fighter II Turbo (World 940223)" and put the CACHE file into the PSP/GAME/CPS2/cache/ and then put the SSF2 "Super Street Fighter 2 The New Challengers (World 930911)" into the rom folder together with whatever SF game clones is listed below:

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Asia 940223)

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940223)

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940323)

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (World 940223)

Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge (Japan 940223)

Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (Japan 930911)

Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (World 930911)

# HELP!?Guest 2006-08-07 07:34
Does Anyone know how to Make This One Game Work?

*Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle*

Methods That I tried Already:

-Put PARENT FILE >ss2f< into Rom Folder

-Convert the >SSF2T< and >SSF2< CACHE and put them into the cache folder

-Load up CPS2 Emulator on PSP

-Then All Region of Super Street Fighter The Tournament Battle are in Gray and not playable?

you need to find a working US clone copy to get the grey parent rom to work.

OK, I figured out how to convert SSF2 Turbo. When you do the conversion, you must have the regular SSF2 rom in the same directory as the SSF2 Turbo rom. You will then be able to generate a cache file for SSF2 Turbo! Maybe that was obvious to everybody else... :)

Also, I've just tried this emu on 2.6 firmware via GTA and can confirm it works great. NJ, you beauty!

Man... How you can do that ??? Is bad, that not so far NJ maybe leave psp scene to work in a great softhouse company... His is a great coder !

Please keep your work for us !!!

* Because inscription when starting has become test 3, the file was replaced. (23:20)

Next, it corrected also the volume which is made too much small with the part game.

Cause: Low when it is sample rate, when the musical interval changes at the interval which is detailed than as many as 1 samples ([bibura] - [to],

Because), change of the musical interval is skipped occurrence with such as pitch bending. It is simple.

Because the amount processing where the sound of 11KHz and 22KHz has become accurate increases, when you compare to test3, somewhat

It is heavy, (saying, that it is heavy, minute barrel rubbing, it does, but). Playing back gently with 44KHz, whether there is no great difference

It does and the [re] increase is. Furthermore, restart it is not with try to be able to modify sample rate.

Because of the [ru] where parent set is ssf2, when there is cache of ssf2, it reads there,

Because there is trouble where portion of the background is not indicated, it corrected.

The game which corresponds is below.

parent set: ssf2tb

ssf2tbr1 Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (World 930911)

ssf2tbj Super Street Fighter II: The Tournament Battle (Japan 930911)

parent set: ssf2t

ssf2ta Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Asia 940223)

ssf2tu Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940323)

ssf2tur1 Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940223)

ssf2xj Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge (Japan 94022

また、以下のゲームのキャッシュファイルはssf2で作成したもので問題ありませんでした。

(ただし、この3つのゲームはNOT WORKINGなので起動できません)

Bug information

When test 3 (replacing the file with 4 from, whether?) With clone set of ssf2 which is modified at later bug

Because it was, you write.

If as for game below individually cache file compilation (ssf2xj ssf2xj_cache.Compilation) doing zip

. Originally ssf2t_cache.zip must be read, the place, the present condition program

With bug always ssf2_cache.zip is read. (The data is not enough and cannot indicate in normally)

ssf2tur1 Super Street Fighter II Turbo (US 940223)

ssf2xj Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge (Japan 940223)

In addition, being something which was drawn up with ssf2 problem there was no cache file of the game below.

i watched romthestampede's videos and i think my psp might be playing mvc a little slower than his. were you running 333mhz somehow? does the mhz even matter or is it strictly a ram issue? i can win a few matches, but it isn't fun at all with all this slowdown.

NJ is THE premiere homebrew developer for the PSP. I'm not saying others are great it's just that NJ is always breaking new ground and is pushing the PSP capabilities farther than anyone else. Awesome work.
