You can see the color is now correct. But actually the emuation speed is very slowÂ…
ChaosKnight has updated his Basilisk II port for the PSP. Basilisk II is a 68k Macintosh open-source emulator. This will run Macintosh systems v7.5.5 through 7.6.1 the easiest (and quite fast at that), and is very easy to install. In this new version, he has added: “
Updates
P-Sprint (press select to switch between P-Sprint and Mouse mode)
Automatically adds DSK and HFV files
Supports MacOS 8
3 Levels of mouse sensitivity (DPad = slow, Analog Light = Mid, Analog Heavy = Fast)Note
I may not be working on this for awhile as work and life have gotten hectic simultaniously. Let me know if you want to develop and what piece, I would still like to maintain control of integration.
Thanks everyone for your support!
You will still need your own legal copy of mac.rom which must be placed in the BasiliskIIPSP directory.
There are 2 versions of this updates.
You can get the real color (slower) version in our PSP Download section [here].
You can get the fake color (faster) version in our PSP Download section [here].
Currently, this emulator will only run on PSPs with firmware version 1.0 or 1.50. If you do not know which firmware version your PSP has, or if you need help installing this application/game on your PSP, check one of our many informative FAQs. If you have a higher firmware version than 1.50 on your PSP, you cannot run this program. To downgrade the firmware from a version higher than 1.50, please visit [here].

Bravo, Nate. I was reading through these comments and limbering up my fingers for a nice "don't feed trolls" reminder.
The emulator's excellent, but it crashes way too often. Desert Trek in my pocket can't be beat, though. Really looking forward to future updates, hopefully it'll be more stable. Great work!
Well thanks, but my original post seems to have been removed. Perhaps because of the critique for allowing anonymous posting...which now (finally) seems to be disabled? I'll take that trade-off.
Wait.. so what does it mean it automatically adds the dsk and hfv filez? Does that mean no more having to edit the system.dsk? Because that would amek stuff so much easier!
seems like it, except i dont know how to get/edit dsk/hfv files. is this so u can do more stuff than just click on the hard drive? could someone tell me how to do this as i love old macs, i just dont know how to put apps/programs on... ty
Ok, I am not sure what the ability of adding hsv and dsk files automatically is... but anyways, what you need to do to get thois program running is first get a version of a mac.rom that works wih the basilisk emulators, then you need a startup.dsk ( I think, unless they allready got rid of that need ) and then you need a system.dsk ( That is the main system, including the virtual HD and other directories ) then use google and find a file called HFVexplorer. You use this to add files to the system.dsk ( or to make one of your own ) and there you go! But for some reason, whenever I ry adding a file to use, when I run it on the emulator, it says that it cant be run since the application that made the file cannot be found... WTF? Can anyone help me with that?
actually yes
Is it just me or does it still not work right?
How would you go about installing Mac OS 8?
yea would like a premade mac os 8 dsk :D
Apple rules!
Where can i get a mac.rom?
this program looks great and all....but what would be the point of it....dont get me wrong, im a fan of macs, but i dont see a point to these OS and windows 98 psp ****! ...what can they really do right now? or is it still to early in the game to start running programs with them?
can people stop going off topic please? i like apple computers and ipods are one of the coolest gadgets you can get (as well as psp's obv. ^-^)
we need to get rid of anonymous postings (even thou im using them too ^-^)
@ gamesguru @ 8:17 : please dont ask for mac.roms as it is illegal, just try searching google for a mac version 7 rom ( i cant find v8 ) and thatll work,
@ 8:27, this is a well better emulator than say, the bochs win 95 (load times, updated regularly, p-sprint)
and we should be able to get a full comp running on the psp if we wait a while and let this develop ^-^
NAH...dont worry about him his just a disgruntle apple employ
Look who is talking? Learn to type, and then come and judge me. And I agree with 9:12.
1st of all i would shoot myself b4 i work 4 apple secondly does ne1 on this site know that when u use the word gay it has multiple meanings like **** or do none of u have a social life
if i say apple sucks then that is my opinion. i dont have 2 explain myself 4 it 2 be 1. im not here 2 convince any of u im just expressing how i feel-my opinion
...but no one cares about ur opinion...
The comment section of this post is one of the worst i've seen here.. "If you own a mac ur gay" wtf?
Now, BACK TO THE TOPIC!!! can you use this fully, i mean, how fast is it? to boot? Can we run programs normally? or what?
then y so many ppl ****in about it. if they didnt care then they would ignore it
* boot time is about 10 seconds and you need to install ur programs to the dsk file, ( im still trying to do it)
If you have trouble using p-sprint and the start button hangs on you then please download the patched elf I made (which also fixed a few other key mapping bugs - I had 7 where 9 should be and 6 and 5 were reversed).
Maybe someone can make a package of it for the elf2pbp impaired ... ;) (bit pressed for time atm)
Anyway, you can get it here:
http://www.niwra.nl/tmp/Basilisprint.rar
(I copied it into my Basilisk folder and then run it with File Assistant myself)
trust me... 7.6 was more stable than 8, but then again 8 was more stable than 8.5...
still dont onderstand why the good color version is so slow..
Im not askign for MAC.ROM, but where do you get it? Liek on a MAC computer, but where?
Ok....
Where the hell can I get the DSK and HFV game files?
I've tried google...
Yay! No anonymous comments! Amen to that!
Get your mac.com here!
http://www.geocities.com/pipevault/bios.htm
Scroll down to the Apple section and get one of the mac.roms. I've tested them all; they all work with Basilisk II. Once you download one unzip it and put the raw image in the Basilisk II folder without the percentage. You have to rename the mac.rom "mac" without the quotes. That'll make Basilisk II boot up.
Just put a midi on it. it will load and play it, but you can't hear it.
Er. We don't link to ROMs here addicted - it puts the site's owner in a difficult position...plus the link is down. :)
This is amazing. It brings back so many memorys. I can remember when this was my primary computer, and now it is on my PSP. So far, I have got MacDraw and Stuffit on it, and I installed Quicktime. (works fine with images, a little slow with movies and sound doesn't work) Good job guys and keep up the good work!
OK I created a hfv file, I have a ROM file and a system.dsk file and I am able to boot mac os with Basilisk for windows but on psp it isnt working. i put these files in /psp/game/basilisk.
any idea what im doing wrong ?
I get a blue screen of death type of screen that says bus error
... Is it just me or did the FIRST release of this come with the mac.rom, system.dsk and all the other files needed anyway?
Yeah I think it did. But it has been changed. How do I run games and other stuff in here? I tryed the emulator for pc. But it says it cant open it becouse it doesnt know what made it. Whats up with that?
^ I'm having the same problem. I wanna try a benchmarking tool and it won't open it
To make your own Mac disk images to use with Basilisk, download this:
http://www.arte.unipi.it/Public/Win32/Hdexp131.zip
It's a program called HFVExplorer that was created by the author of the Windows port of Basilisk.
Then go here:
http://os-emulation.net/basiliskII/system753_tutorial/
You can also get HFVExplorer at this site and it has step by step instructions on how to create your own disk images for use with Basilisk.
Those of you with a PC should check out the Windows version of this emulator. It really is great for 68k computing and runs better than the actual machine it emulates.
Uh....I neglected to mention that anyone that wants to attempt this must download and install the Windows version of this emulator in order to even make the disk image.
You can find it at most emulator sites, but here's one for everyone.. as if no one knew of it because it's only like the longest standing emulation site on the web. :P
www.zophar.net
You can get the rom for the Macintosh Quadra 950 here:
http://www.the-underdogs.org/nonpc.php
Just scroll around a bit and you'll find it.
This is a legally available ROM for an unreleased Quadra model.
does any one know whese I can get Crystal Quest? I have the actaual game, but the disk doesn't work any more.
