Atari 2600 emulator PSP2600 v1.0.2 |
Ó
A lot, actually. But before we go into that, here's a little refresher for our new readers so we know we're all on the same page. PSP2600 is actually a PSP port of of Stella v2.2. Stella, on the other hand, is one of the best emulators of Atari 2600 game system. The program runs on various operating systems such as Linux, Solaris, Windows, MacOS/X, WinCE, OS/2, GP2X.
Now, probably the most important development with PSP2600 v1.0.2 is the bug fix in its Rom file requester. Accordingly, there have been instances of the PSP hanging with the first version whenever the rom list was big and already sorted. Anyway, you can read about all the fixes in the changelog provided below.
Lastly, take note that PSP2600 was developed on Linux for 1.5 FW. Zx-81 mentioned that he thinks that this would work as well for 2.x using Noobz's eloader.
Changelog:
- Merge the code from Stella v2.2 (replacing Stella v2.0 b1)
- Add several Anti-Flicker modes such as: Phosphor (from Stella v2.2), nice but CPU consuming; Simple, very fast and suitable for black background games; Average, it computes average colors between two frames
- Add paddle support, using Left / Right keys or analog Pad
- Fix the sound speed/accuracy (For a better quality, set the PSP clock to 333Mhz in the settings menu)
- Remove Gelon's name from graphics stuff (as he wants to)
- Add Aenea as the author of the first PSP port (I'm sorry for this mistake !)

I'll check if all the flickering issues have been fixed. Thanks zx!
zx has sorted my emu flickering probs! thanks again
no biggie... great emu though.. keep up the great work.. also whenever I load a zipped file it reverts back to Pitfall! any ideas? going to try unzipped roms now
Wow, no more flickering! The only thing I miss is a full screen smoothing mode, to avoid those nasty squared pixels, like stella does. Thank you very much Zx!
Also... please make the SWAP ANALOG PAD/DIGITAL PAD option work..I hate the analog pad for emulators
y play atari games on you're PSP they suck!.... ......ps1,sega genesis,snes,gba/gb, R much better choices to go with!.
"we all know that he became known all throughout the homebrew community because of another program, PSP7800. " Come on now QJ. zx-81 has made other countless contribution other than the recent atari 7800 port. Some noob writing this article? Great work as always zx.
@all: thanks You're right lol, i've ported 15 emulators from now :P Another version is available on http://zx81.zx81.free.fr, with bug fix in the render mode ... This will be the final release, only if major bugs are found. Zx
I like to use emulators on my PSP not only for playing great games with wonderful-looking graphics and animations, but also to step back a little and remember my childhood. Sure GBA's games are better than 2600's games but playing an 2600 game gives my a sweet taste, a taste that I felt when I was younger and now, thanks to Zx and a whole lot of developers that made some others emulators (Nes, MegaDrive, Master system...) I'm able to feel today. Yes, I'm a nostalgic... THANKS Zx!!!!
learn to type...
