Yoyofr and Laxer3a To Drop SnesTYL9x Development?

SnesWhen do you know if it's too much? How do you know if you've gone too far? What if you found out that it might just be beyond you? Sometimes, it's better to let others continue your work.

This is what Yoyofr and Laxer3a have decided. Letting someone else's hands develop your creation takes a lot of willpower. They have layered down the integral foundations for other homebrew developers to build on.

According to Laxer3a, "I am not sure neither yoyo and I want to go that far in tuning. If any good coder is interested to join in... May be worth sending a bottle to the sea actually. As the source matches the latest binary."

So what does this mean for the SnesTYL9x? According to the developers, they have done all that they can regarding the speed of the emulator. A 10% increase in performance may be achieved if there was a near-complete overhaul of the code to incorporate a dynamic recompiler/JIT and if the graphics code was rewritten. It seems majorly difficult, but feasible. However, time is not on their side.

They have a life beyond game emulators, and decided that doing the modifications above would take a major chunk of health points out of them. Let's hope that others will carry on the torch these people have helped light.

Yoyofr and Laxer3a, thanks for the great SnesTYL9x. It will be one of the better emulators out there for a long time. For the next generation of developers, the ball is in your court.

They need to make it so we can use sleep mode. If you try to put it in sleep mode now, the screen turns off, but the PSP still stays on.

Also, I can't boot this emulator up using IR Shell.

O was only wondering the other day what happen to this.

I guess the way to go now would be for someone to write a emulator from stratch for the psp.

I mean look at the gpsp gba emulator can run most games full speed in beta format and no snes emulator can even run crono triggers at full speed. Just shows porting an emulator isn't the way to go.

# They may lose a few health points but......Guest 2006-09-03 07:57
But, look at what they would have gained if they had did this!

Optimization of current code:

+5 Mp capacity

+2 Int

+4 Willpower

+2 Reputation

Complete rewrite of the code from scratch(not Port):

Each programmer would have gained a new level!

+10 Mp capacity

+10 Int

+15 Willpower

+25 Reputation

A new Feat! : Both guys now have an automatic presence of enhanced charisma when entering any room!

Doing nothing and just quitting(what they just did):

-10 reputation

+6 Sloth

-4 Willpower

A new skill! : Vanish ability (programmers can now just disappear into obscurity and be completely forgotten when a better version of their work is released by someone else.)

i can't say i blame them for not wanting to spend hours mercilessly slaving over lines and lines of code.

SNES TYL is near perfect, if anyone takes it upon themselves to remake it with dynamic recompilation, i will download it but untill then, snes tyl is the best.

This IS one of the best emulators in the scene because of everything you geniuses have done for it!

Please PLEASE reconsider your decision to drop it completely and DO recompile the code from scratch and DO everything you want to, and make it everything it potentialy can be.

I KNOW you guys read this, and I implore you to please do what's right, learn from everything you've done so far.

Sometimes in order to make a leap forward we have to make 2 steps back. I understand you have obligations that are making it harder to work on the emu these days but PLEASE understand that thousands of us will be using this emulator, and LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

and think of the n00bs too and everyone who recently have a 1.5 because of the downdraders released lately, can you deprive them of your glorious work?

and NO I'm NOT joking at all about any of this if you flame me you can go to hell

YoYo has given a ton to several homebrew scenes, not just PSP...and everything he has given has been top-notch. Without YoYo, the PSP scene would not have advanced as far as fast. Besides pretty good SNES emulator, he also came out with a rockin NeoGeoCD emulator.

He was one of the key developers when the scene was young and he gained quite a following. If he and his crew are moving on to other things, then I say tip one last mug in their honor and wish them the best. Cheers!!!

Now I have had a rant I would like to thank Yoyofr and Laxer3a for providing a nice piece of psp homebrew which I have thouroughly enjoyed using since it's first release. Hopefully the final version will include ad-hoc mode that would really be a good note to end on for one of my favourite

It is because of people like you, who want to use homebrew for illegal reasons, that sony will not allow us to use homebrew on current versions. How about you get off your lazy a$$, get a job, make some money, and actually buy your games. And by the way, A LOT of people use homebrew, me included.

Instead of giving up just yet, is there anyway you can fix the bugs you already have in it. When you load a save state there is no sound. I don't really care about a speed increase, just that 1 little bug. If you fix this, I will be so grateful, and I don't need another release.

I have to congratulate them for doing it, but now just as much as before its evident that they really didn't put their hearts into it, this project was an unloved child.

When others have quit they've left us with a complete product, TYL on the other hand is not so hot, it can't run some games fluid, doesn't support sleep and when you look at the new GBA emulator it really looks like a poor effort in comparison, they ported some x86 code to PSP, wow.

First of, all the thanks and praise for this wonderful emulator, it was also a big reason why I bought my PSP and to play even the likes of F-Zero full speed is truely a marvel.

Secondly, if not by you guys, it would be really great if some other coder could simply fix the save state bug (if it were "simple" I'm sure you guys would've done it already).

I'm not even sure if the save state problem was part of the earlier versions or if it popped up later on, but it certainly would be nice to see it fixed, thx :)

Lastly, what game is this on your page? It looks really fun..

I never have problems with this version, other than Chrono Trigger/Mario RPG/Kirby Superstar speed, thats all. And as for the text screen, you shouldnt whine about that since the way you get rid of it is tap down on the analog once then press X or O =p takes less than a second.

But YoYo and Lax, this was the first emulator I used, and I use it the most. I'm glad it came at least this far, and for that, you are awesome. May life give you lots of lemonaide =)
