Yoyofr and Laxer3a To Drop SnesTYL9x Development?

SnesWhen do you know if it's too much? How do you know if you've gone too far? What if you found out that it might just be beyond you? Sometimes, it's better to let others continue your work.

This is what Yoyofr and Laxer3a have decided. Letting someone else's hands develop your creation takes a lot of willpower. They have layered down the integral foundations for other homebrew developers to build on.

According to Laxer3a, "I am not sure neither yoyo and I want to go that far in tuning. If any good coder is interested to join in... May be worth sending a bottle to the sea actually. As the source matches the latest binary."

So what does this mean for the SnesTYL9x? According to the developers, they have done all that they can regarding the speed of the emulator. A 10% increase in performance may be achieved if there was a near-complete overhaul of the code to incorporate a dynamic recompiler/JIT and if the graphics code was rewritten. It seems majorly difficult, but feasible. However, time is not on their side.

They have a life beyond game emulators, and decided that doing the modifications above would take a major chunk of health points out of them. Let's hope that others will carry on the torch these people have helped light.

Yoyofr and Laxer3a, thanks for the great SnesTYL9x. It will be one of the better emulators out there for a long time. For the next generation of developers, the ball is in your court.

They won't be forgotten....

They have left their mark on the PSP homebrew scene and they will not be forgotten! SNESTYL9x is the best SNES emulator for the PSP hands down! Thanks for the memories guys!

by - 2006-09-03 11:34:16
nope

...this marks the end of homebrew...sony has won...lol goat+A1=tasty
by - 2006-09-03 11:37:09
1st post

great, they leave us with a broken .42 with broken cheat code support and broken save state support...just *****ing great
by DBsummit - 2006-09-03 11:42:19
I've been waiting for an update for a long time

They need to make it so we can use sleep mode. If you try to put it in sleep mode now, the screen turns off, but the PSP still stays on. Also, I can't boot this emulator up using IR Shell.
by - 2006-09-03 11:43:00
Sad

O was only wondering the other day what happen to this. I guess the way to go now would be for someone to write a emulator from stratch for the psp. I mean look at the gpsp gba emulator can run most games full speed in beta format and no snes emulator can even run crono triggers at full speed. Just shows porting an emulator isn't the way to go.
by - 2006-09-03 11:43:09

at 5 an 6 it anit the end u priks
by - 2006-09-03 11:53:06

Sony's hiring all the coders, taking out homebrew, DarK Alex is next..
by - 2006-09-03 11:54:57
who cares?

SERIOUSLY, WHO CARES??? LIKE NE OF US ACTUALLY PLAY HOMEBREW... PLZ YOYO & LAXER WORK ON A NEW ISO LOADER!!! WE ALL WANT TO PLAY THE UPCOMING 2.80 GAMES... PLZ WORK TOGETHER WITH BOOSTER AND CRACK NEW SONY PROTECTION... WE NEED FREEE GAMES! NOT *****TY EMULATOR HOMEBREW.. LOL K THNXBYE
by Gawd - 2006-09-03 11:56:58
Meh.

uo_SNES9x v0.02y32 kicked TYL's arse all the way. The only thing it lacked was ad-hoc.
by - 2006-09-03 11:57:53
They may lose a few health points but......

But, look at what they would have gained if they had did this! Optimization of current code: +5 Mp capacity +2 Int +4 Willpower +2 Reputation Complete rewrite of the code from scratch(not Port): Each programmer would have gained a new level! +10 Mp capacity +10 Int +15 Willpower +25 Reputation A new Feat! : Both guys now have an automatic presence of enhanced charisma when entering any room! Doing nothing and just quitting(what they just did): -10 reputation +6 Sloth -4 Willpower A new skill! : Vanish ability (programmers can now just disappear into obscurity and be completely forgotten when a better version of their work is released by someone else.)
by - 2006-09-03 11:59:54

Has anyone noticed in tags it says PSMonkey, Lord of the Rings and Bilbo.

LMFAO!! Anyone notice this??

can't blame em

i can't say i blame them for not wanting to spend hours mercilessly slaving over lines and lines of code. SNES TYL is near perfect, if anyone takes it upon themselves to remake it with dynamic recompilation, i will download it but untill then, snes tyl is the best.
by - 2006-09-03 12:22:42
.

Who's going to quit next? x) ah well, if theres no time left, then times up.
by - 2006-09-03 12:23:14
Thank you for all the work, guys.

It sucks that you won't be improving it but you have to do what you have to do.
by - 2006-09-03 12:23:46

Quitting already? God has no one got any backbone these days
by Illegal Machine - 2006-09-03 12:24:22
Guys please!

This IS one of the best emulators in the scene because of everything you geniuses have done for it! Please PLEASE reconsider your decision to drop it completely and DO recompile the code from scratch and DO everything you want to, and make it everything it potentialy can be. I KNOW you guys read this, and I implore you to please do what's right, learn from everything you've done so far. Sometimes in order to make a leap forward we have to make 2 steps back. I understand you have obligations that are making it harder to work on the emu these days but PLEASE understand that thousands of us will be using this emulator, and LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT! and think of the n00bs too and everyone who recently have a 1.5 because of the downdraders released lately, can you deprive them of your glorious work? and NO I'm NOT joking at all about any of this if you flame me you can go to hell

Cheers and good luck to ya!!!

YoYo has given a ton to several homebrew scenes, not just PSP...and everything he has given has been top-notch. Without YoYo, the PSP scene would not have advanced as far as fast. Besides pretty good SNES emulator, he also came out with a rockin NeoGeoCD emulator. He was one of the key developers when the scene was young and he gained quite a following. If he and his crew are moving on to other things, then I say tip one last mug in their honor and wish them the best. Cheers!!!
by CHUCKINGROCKSATSPACESHIPS - 2006-09-03 12:33:23
All Good Things...

come to an end. Thats ok though. They made some great emulators that we can still enjoy. I personally am very greatful for the emulators you have released so far. Thank you and good luck on everything. Maybe someone talented in coding can pick it up and finish or learn something that they never thought of and give us something great.
by - 2006-09-03 12:38:11
finally

no more crappy snes9xtlyzdvbf emu.. hurray
by - 2006-09-03 12:48:36

This emulator was good but really crap in multiplayer.

YOu guys did awesome work to make a damn good Snes emulator. Good luck in the future.
by - 2006-09-03 13:03:37
Shucks.

Shucks. Ah well... They had a good run.
by - 2006-09-03 13:03:59

by - 2006-09-03 13:38:54
Thanks

Thanks for the great emulator! Still the emulator with the best menu system by far, that's for sure.
by - 2006-09-03 13:38:58
GRRRRRRRRRRRRR

they are going to screw us over? We deserve at LEAST one more release, if not to fix the monstorious bugs Yo Yo & laxar left with the latest release. BTW is uo_SNES9x v0.02y32 any good with speed?
by - 2006-09-03 13:45:02
Thank you

I just want to thank Yoyofr and Laxer3a for their fantastic Snes Emulator. I have had a great time playing all the classics and will continue play them for a long time! I'ts probably the best emulator for the PSP, so thank you.
by - 2006-09-03 13:46:16
SNES 9X TYL .02 was better anyway

.0.4.2 had a a good menu but it was mostly fluff.
by - 2006-09-03 13:58:23

What bugs are there? I don't have the room to install this, but I want to when I get a bigger card. What are the huge bugs in their last release?
by - 2006-09-03 13:58:26
darn

Too bad I can't do Mario RPG at full speed, other than that and the save state problem your emulator was awesome.
by - 2006-09-03 14:03:16

awww i hope they make an ad hoc feature with their snes =[ plzzz lol
by - 2006-09-03 14:07:27
Qj you are slow on the news

Qj you are slow on the news and because of that we can say that you could have stolen it from a number of places (your ususal plan of attack when gathering news). Now I have had a rant I would like to thank Yoyofr and Laxer3a for providing a nice piece of psp homebrew which I have thouroughly enjoyed using since it's first release. Hopefully the final version will include ad-hoc mode that would really be a good note to end on for one of my favourite psp homebrew programs to be released to date.
by - 2006-09-03 14:07:37
hey #12

It is because of people like you, who want to use homebrew for illegal reasons, that sony will not allow us to use homebrew on current versions. How about you get off your lazy a$$, get a job, make some money, and actually buy your games. And by the way, A LOT of people use homebrew, me included.
by - 2006-09-03 14:19:05
Thank You Yoyofr and Laxer3a

Just want to show my respect and gratitude to you guys since it was one of the best emulators out there for PSP. I was able to enjoy the best of SNES anywhere, anytime because of your hardwork and dedication. I wish for the best for both of you in whatever you will be pursuing in the future. ..and to those ungrateful worthless ***** who gave no contribution whatsoever but being ungrateful and disrespectful; STFU
by anonymous stranger - 2006-09-03 14:32:50
yo

# 8 you gotta turn OFF the music of IR shell, or it collides with snes. also i'll never forget u yoyofr! for ur emulator will probably be one of the things i always keep on my psp! you rock! but yeah, cheat code works fine with me, but... we should have unlimited cheatcode imput option, kinda sucks when i play front mission and want items, take forever to reenter them!
by - 2006-09-03 15:01:52

I bet a new snes emu for the gp2x is now on the cards ^_^
by - 2006-09-03 15:10:48

Great Work Guys, Life Is More Then Emulators Infact Like if more then a GAME CONSOLE.. Enjoy Life..
by - 2006-09-03 15:17:10
good thing they stopped working

their latest release won't play any of my roms. it makes a bunch of errors and refuses to play. i say it's time they gave up before things get worse.
by - 2006-09-03 15:45:20
later

good luck guys so long i dont know why everybody has problems with this emulator iv had none every rom i tryed worked full speed only bug i found was the save state bug no sound after save but when i play it for a while the sound starts working agin besides that its a great emulator.
by - 2006-09-03 16:00:11
street fighter II turbo

I love my snes emulator, and I loved keeping up with its progress. it was good times playing all those great games. the snes emulator was what first justified my psp purchase. thanks a lot guys, and good luck in the future.
by dylr91 - 2006-09-03 16:33:13
this sucks....

Instead of giving up just yet, is there anyway you can fix the bugs you already have in it. When you load a save state there is no sound. I don't really care about a speed increase, just that 1 little bug. If you fix this, I will be so grateful, and I don't need another release.
by - 2006-09-03 16:53:56
aw man

snestyl was the first emulater i put on my psp. i sure hope they enjot their life
by - 2006-09-03 16:58:08
I love the emu, but if they're not gona continue with it...

Could they at least release a version without that crappy ass disclaimer you have to read almost every time you turn the emu on? It's gaudy as hell anyway.
by Illegal Machine - 2006-09-03 17:02:26
amen to that 51

I love this emulator but I DO hate that text file that ALWAYS comes up
by - 2006-09-03 17:15:09
i guess x-81 will get this one

dont u agree guys, we need zx-81 to get this project going! after all the emulators he did im sure he'll make this snes a hella nice (*not dissing yoyofr or laxer3a's work gj guys) we need to form a petition for zx-81 haha. for zx-81 WE NEED UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!
by - 2006-09-03 18:45:52
hmm

I have to congratulate them for doing it, but now just as much as before its evident that they really didn't put their hearts into it, this project was an unloved child. When others have quit they've left us with a complete product, TYL on the other hand is not so hot, it can't run some games fluid, doesn't support sleep and when you look at the new GBA emulator it really looks like a poor effort in comparison, they ported some x86 code to PSP, wow.
by - 2006-09-03 18:47:37
a few things

First of, all the thanks and praise for this wonderful emulator, it was also a big reason why I bought my PSP and to play even the likes of F-Zero full speed is truely a marvel. Secondly, if not by you guys, it would be really great if some other coder could simply fix the save state bug (if it were "simple" I'm sure you guys would've done it already). I'm not even sure if the save state problem was part of the earlier versions or if it popped up later on, but it certainly would be nice to see it fixed, thx :) Lastly, what game is this on your page? It looks really fun.. http://yoyofr92.free.fr/psp/images/Legend.jpg
by RaiderX - 2006-09-03 18:52:03
ok, but...

can you guys at least release a version of TYL with that annoying nag screen removed? PLEASE??
by - 2006-09-03 19:17:09
guy

this sucks these guys where my fav...
by akuma2099 - 2006-09-03 19:26:22
it's ok

I have been using the .4 me version and I can't see any problems with it. It plays all the games I want with savestates and it plays SM RPG just fine to me so I can't really see what they could do to improve it at least for me anyway.
by - 2006-09-03 19:45:08
Good show.

You guys did a good job. If only the sound after sleep mode would work 100% of the time and not make a beeping noise. Everything was extreamly up to par and perfect in many people's eyes.
by - 2006-09-03 19:57:08
''

I always wondered why GBA runs smoother on PSP than SNES or Genesis
by novacoca - 2006-09-03 20:04:50

it wasn't always like this...
by - 2006-09-03 20:24:27
uo_Snes9x_002y32 is good too

i just tryed the other snes version and it plays a few roms better like that gundam fighting game.(17 fps with 1 frame skip------better then yoshi's but no offense)
by - 2006-09-03 20:47:21

Hey Little KIDS That Are Complaining About The Emulator Not Working and saying they should give up b4 things get any worst, here's for you, YOU SHUT UP AND DO IT YOURSELF THEN YOU MAKE ME SICK!
by - 2006-09-03 20:54:10
@ 62

i get 50fps or more with frameskip on 1 in snestyl .42 me playing the gundam fighting game.
by Ninkul - 2006-09-03 21:08:10
Farewell.. =(

Farewell Yoyo & Lax, you have brought many many hours of joy to me =(
by - 2006-09-03 21:34:34

gpsp is the best emu out there, it surpass all other emus and can play many remakes of snes game with better graphics in fullspeed i think thats the reason why they gave up gg no re
by - 2006-09-03 22:54:36
The Best

emulator for PSP fast-compatible-easy to use... TNX guys
by - 2006-09-03 23:07:58
hmmm

Well if only you could just fix the broken savestate sound i would be happy. Thats the only thing that turns me off from this emu almost everthing else works great. Plus in the changelog it says savestate sound is fixed but its not...
by - 2006-09-04 01:37:42
wtf

cum bak n finish ur job u f4gs
by - 2006-09-04 02:50:01
this emu works perfectly thanks a lot

this emu works perfectly thanks a lot . i hope we will see you later in another project as good as this one ... the only thing that could be bring to another snes emulator is the enhencement of the graphics quality and surpasses the original (like bleem does for the ps1 on pc)
by KaVaYo - 2006-09-04 05:54:35
Thanks a lot!

Those guys were working for free and they deserve the right to stop working any time they want. They've done the best Snes emulator for the PSP scene and works nearly perfect with all games. Also they released the source code wich as a programmer I know (at least for me) it's the hardest part of work because of the tidy-up-comment. So thanks a lot, good job and my best wishes for all of them in their future.
by Bad Intentions - 2006-09-04 06:00:02
Lol..

All the devs are leaving the community! =(
by - 2006-09-04 07:43:46

thanks for your contribution guys. One feature i always wanted is multiple controller support on one PSP, there are tonne of games with use few buttons and itd have been fun to pad share. We'll miss you
by - 2006-09-04 08:10:56

One of the most complete and best portable emulators of all time. It runs almost every game at 60 FPS, even mother*****in' DKC is playable... They have done an amazing work and deserve enourmous thanks for their hard work and biggest reason to own a PSP
by swebarb - 2006-09-04 08:32:36
too bad

you french pig.
by - 2006-09-04 10:59:56
Please release source code and I will get Star Fox working at FULL SPEED (44khz audio/no frameskip/full screen!)

Please release sorcecode. Keep your program alive through others! -end of line
by - 2006-09-04 12:09:49

DAm you guys were great ... thanx for the great emulator!!! @72 -- hopefully a new generation of devs will come along!!.. great job with the emulator agian!!...
by - 2006-09-04 13:18:36
thank you

i love this emu and i will miss your work. maybe one day we will see you again.
by - 2006-09-04 16:27:18
@51

It is LEGEND. Its a side scroller and it is way to slow to play on the lastest snes emulator.... Fun game for about 5 minutes.
by - 2006-09-04 19:41:10
>>@79

Thanks, I found the Legend rom. Is it basically a Golden Axe ripoff? The game itself plays pretty slow at full-speed on PC. I guess it looked cooler in the screenshot than it actually is...
by - 2006-09-04 19:49:51
0.4.2

I never have problems with this version, other than Chrono Trigger/Mario RPG/Kirby Superstar speed, thats all. And as for the text screen, you shouldnt whine about that since the way you get rid of it is tap down on the analog once then press X or O =p takes less than a second. *is not flaming* =) But YoYo and Lax, this was the first emulator I used, and I use it the most. I'm glad it came at least this far, and for that, you are awesome. May life give you lots of lemonaide =)
by - 2006-10-11 12:53:24
Come on, it's not even finished

Kirby Super Star (Super Deluxe) runs slower than a pentium 2. I need Kirby Super Star.
