Video output functionality found in PSP FW 3.50's code

We don't know if anyone among you have tried this before but homebrew developer undertaxxx took a look at FW 3.50's code using RCO Editor from ZiNgABuRgA. And if all his interpretations are correct, we might be seeing our much-loved PlayStation Portable units hooked up to TV sets in the future.

The said code has a small reference to videout located in "impose_plugin.rco" complete with its own icon. Aside from this, undertaxxx also noticed a Line_Out Icon stored in the same rco. A good knowledge in coding will tell anyone that this is indeed is somehow connected to "video and audio out" functionality but Sony still has its mouth shut.

Another thing similar to this has happened before. It should be remembered that developer MATIAz found a hidden code in the decrypted version of "vshmain.prx" from FW 3.10 referring to Skype functionality. A couple of weeks after that, it was found out that California's Jajah Inc. will indeed be offering VoIP services for the PSP.

What do you think guys? It's not really impossible if we're going to consider the handheld's capabilities as it very much can do this thing. The only question here is if Sony is really willing to implement it.

this will be awesome but i think its video out to the ps3 guys.

» Nice

If this will become true i think it's one of the first strong steps Sony will make against homebrew. Surely this feature will come out on new FW typer with no possibility to downgade so who wants to use it has to make a hard choice......

Unless an OE version of that firmware comes out that is...

and talking about homebrew fighting i think the new slim version will be much more "homebrew-protectet"...

» Nice

damn, i no u can do this on original homebrew, but this. On an ordinarie firmware would be insane. Can't wait to see sony confess

i think the video out has something to do with remote play.

so you can connect your psp to your ps3 and then see the psp screen on your tv.

I can't think of another way to connect a psp to a tv.

USB? Serial Port? i think that´s impossible.

» This is great...

I was going to purchase the PSP2TV hardware and install it soon but will definitely hold out on that until the details of this potential feature are confirmed. I just hope the TV Out feature will not involve purchasing a PS3 or rediculously overpriced hardware like the location free player.

How the hell would you do it without a PS3?

by Mr.Patch - 2007-06-08 11:29
» new psp

The new PSP should be the same, features wise so if it really gets video out WITHOUT having to connect to the PS3, I'll get one. Otherwise, Sony can fornicate themselves with an iron stick.

» Video Out...

Yes it's ment to work with the PS3 only. The reference to California's Jajah Inc. was not neccessary because it was proven to be a fraud claim dispite the fact 3.10 had the code for skype. Jajah Inc. in my book is the lowest of the low in terms of company values. They reel us all in with false claims of VOIP for the PSP only to find out it was BullShight. Video out would be nice if it would as a standalone but thats not the case. It links with the PS3 only.

by meh.. - 2007-06-08 12:39
» i agree

it's looking like a backwards form of remote play to me where the PSP's video output is on the PS3's screen.

» one way to connect...

Some devices allow you to output video in the same way as plugging in an earphone jack, except there is an extra connection for video too. I used to have a an archos video player that did that, you would just plug video/audio cable into the headphone jack and connect to the TV's video/audio in.

However im pretty sure the psp would need some kind of special hardware already built in, and i dont think sony would have added it without letting people use that feature for such a long time, so im pretty sure its going to be through the ps3 somehow.

» i have ps3

and i will be very glad if they implement such feature. using the homebrew video to PC is very much in an unplayable state and this feature maybe the better solution instead of modifying the psp and fitting in the PSPtoTV chip.

also please let sony consider this can also be possible on the PS2, the program should be in a disc because ps2 firmware is fixed and cannot be altered.

by ShadowRider - 2007-06-08 23:55

I smell downgrade possibility somewhere too.

as much as i hope i really doubt that sony will have the software on disk and can use PSP to TV with the PS2...

» RECURRING FACTUAL ERROR

Jajah does not offer voip for the psp but only has a psp compatible page now that lets you patch a phone call to and from normal phones through VOIP to save money. THERE IS NO VOIP FUNCTIONALITY THROUGH THE PSP. I made this comment on the original article too and the correction was not made. This is all a result of misleading advertizing on the Jajah website.

by Chirishman - 2007-06-09 14:37
» What Jajah is.

Jajah is billed as "Internet calling minus the Internet" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+cnRzMd4WWXU+mode+related+search+

With Jajah NOTHING PASSES THROUGH EITHER YOUR COMPUTER OR, IN THIS CASE YOUR PSP. IT JUST CONNECTS TWO LANDLINE PHONES OR CELLPHONES.
