To all the naysayers: DaedalusX64 Beta 2 teaser video released *Update* |
Ó
This one is for their Beta 2 build, which, as the video says, "due for release shortly." This video starts out with comments from the naysayers - hey! FreePlay, it's you! - and eventually rolls in with the footage. Just some of the emulated clips you'll see: Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Smash Bros. Brawl, Starfox 64, Pokemon Staduim 2, and Mario Kart 64.
From Wally:
As you can see in the video, things are shaping up pretty well however Beta 2 is still fairly unstable. We'd like to fix things up before they get to your hands.
*Update* In case you haven't check out Salvy's comment below yet, here's a bit of an update. He explains to us a bit more about the footage in this video and how it compares to Beta 1.
Just take note that all the videos were using the default settings so there wasn't frame skip or anything that isn't default except for Paper Mario that had Memory Access Optimisation enabled
Just compare the videos with beta 1 with the default settings you'll see the big improvements that have been done for Beta 2
Meanwhile, you guys can check out Salvy's full comment below for some tech specs. And if you want to get in on the discussion, there's a thread on it over at the forums.

Comments [refresh]
i'm loving it
It's Nice they Got this far and All BUT
still does not Look playable, the games in the video are not Hard hitting games and even they ran like crap, the only hard hitting GFX game in there was Super Smash Bro and It was gong like 15fps if not worse.
but still with that said It is Nice that they Got this far and Worked really hard on it, I am sure a lot of ppl will Love to play the games 15fps and all =)
Looking good.
Hope i can get to play Ocarina with at least 15-20 Fps. O_o
but need to remind you, it is still in beta form. I think in time these games will run better (of course) if not close to desired framerate.
When it is released go to Myspace.com/DaedalusPspComp atibility for a list of working games.
I'm not sure if you noticed but SSB played fine. It didn't have low framerate, the actual game was slowed down. Re-watch the clip and see for yourself.
you'll see: Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, __-__Smash Bros. Brawl__-__, Starfox 64, Pokemon Staduim 2, and Mario Kart 64.
They've made an N64 Emulator capable of running Wii games now!? =O
[/sarcasm]
Anyways. This looks like it's shaping up nicely, but from the video, Smash Bros. looks slower than with previous version of Daedalus. Is it like that now? Or is it that speed with sound? Or is it that speed because of video capture?
I'd like some feedback if possible. =]
the last beta release was very close to running mario 64 at full speed! if they keep making them, i will keep trying them. i've tried other games too, but to be honest, i only care about mario. :)
GoldenEye or Zelda ring any bells? Way better games exist then Mario 64.
its nice to see this emulator slowly improving :)
Just take note that all the videos were using the default settings so there wasn't frame skip or anything that isn't default except for Paper Mario that had Memory Access Optimisation enabled
Just compare the videos with beta 1 with the default settings you'll see the big improvements that have been done for Beta 2
Keep in mind this video was to show the improvements done since Beta 1
Heres a simple Test
Mario 64 Beta 1
-default settings
-first level
-no sound
14.5-16fps
Mario 64 Beta 2
Same settings
same level
sound enabled
24-28fps
with the right settings I can take Mario64 to over 30fps with sound enabled (that's full speed)
Now you tell me there hasn't been any improvements?
This looks very promising. But I am also wondering if these games are running with or without sound enabled.
dev's are leaving the scene left and right because of ungrateful schmucks like you.unless you are on the dev team, or have CONSTRUCTIVE input, you have no right to be critical. the devs have my full support and grateful thanks for all your HUNDREDS of hours of unpaid work, and may you continue !~ keep up the great progress!
And I thought the emulator was already pretty good...the current one can already play Mario 64, Smash Bros, and Mario Kart at decent speeds, and it's only getting better!
:)
lmao

matrix style
I'm just happy that people are still trying to perfect the N64 emulator for the PSP.
YOU GUYS RULE!!!! It's because of great devs like you that keep the psp homebrew seen alive and well
keep up your awesome work :)
(i know you will)
slow and steady will make this emulator an amazing one (like running Ocarina of Time at 30fps :D)
anything is possible :)
YOU GUYS KICK A$$!
Such great work to the devs on this one. PLZ tell me Kirby works with sound? thats the only game i need XP
Ocarina of Time only needs to be 20fps to be running at full speed.
Thank you for fixing Pokemon Stadium 2! It is literally only game I have been playing on the emu so far. But, now after this new beta is released, it looks like im going to have to try other games as well!
You got dedicated fans here. Keep up the great work!
thanks for the correction ;)
FreePlay just got F'd in the as*
:)
The Beta we are playing now(Beta 1) runs noticeably faster with DA's new M33-6 'Speed stick' upgrade activated!
No joke you guys gotta try it.
Salvy, you can confirm this if you like.
First off, too all those picky twâts out there that have nothing else to do than flame some of the best emulation work out there. Get a fƯcking life and grow up. So what if the game doesn't run at full speed. i can guaranty with more testing and time, most if not all n64 games will run at the speed there suppost too.
What happened if everyone stopped development on this and other great projects for the psp. I'll tell you, You'd have nothing to shout about to fill your empty lives with. So shut up, fƯck off and learn some bloody respect!
To the DaedalusX64 team.
I can vouch for alot of british psp lovers that you have nothing but are admiration and full support with the work you have done. personaly, i'm very much looking forward to the beta 2 release. Being able to play starfox64 (or lylat wars as it's called in the UK) at full speed is worth the long wait. Keep up the amazing work guys! :)
the first beta did not appear to completely cover the screen like StrmnNrmn's did. Does this one have full screen support.
AMazing work folks - keep it up!
super smash bros. "brawl" works on this emulator? haha
but great work guys im excited for this one =)
W-w-w-was that Paper Mario?
I'm so happy...
*cries*
Yes it has full screen support, its done via TV-Out though
If you guys wanna help support them, and you got a spare buck, just donate it.
they put lots of time into this and do lots of work :)
I can't thank the devs enough, this release looks to be a lot better than beta 1. SSB is playable at full speed, approx 35 fps average with one opponent, but I think DAX's memory stick contribution might possibly improve speed a little.
this is awesome. A lil frame skip would be just what the doctor ordered for SSB!!!
A very selective clip showing a mix of high graphical demand games in very short bursts along with longer plays of lower intensive shots to misconstrue the fact that whilst there is improvement, it's a LONG *****ing way from being worthy of the title emulator.
The clip had a sound over instead of sound from the games, which makes me think either the sound is so choppy it's unbearable to listen to or they took these videos with sound disabled.
Either way, the video is a misrepresentati on of just what you'll get with this release if you put it on the PSP.
Who gives a ***** if puzzle bobble runs fast if the titles people REALLY want to play on the EMU run like complete dog*****?
Nice try guys, but a egotistical video claiming you've hit the holy grail isn't convincing me of jack *****.
When you get over 30 fps on over 90% of games on the system with clear sound throughout then we'll stand around and applaud.
Some might boo me down for dissing the devs for this, but I would strongly point out it wasn't people like ME releasing a clip like this claiming the naysayers were wrong.
If you want the adoration and respect, then release tight *****ing code instead of propaganda you tube BS like this. If your work is worth the cred the gamers themselves will make the videos to prove it, rather than have yourselves beat your chest and claim it prematurely.
So far, I'm not impressed and QQ to all the friggen fanboys who get upset with me just pointing out a few home truths.
Yes, it's coming along nicely - but there's no *****ing way it's at a level yet where you should be creaming your pants and clearing memory stick space in anticipation.
Not yet...
Oh ***** off with that ball licking dribble danknugz.
It was the DEV TEAM that released this clip as their statement of PROOF that the 'naysayers were wrong' and the public doesn't even have the right to question the claim in your eyes?
Get the ***** out of your eyes you ***** and let opinion stand where it stands. Not everyone is a ball sucking fanboy, but we give credit where it's due - NOT BECAUSE THE *****ING DEVS DEMAND IT!!!!
Too many *****ing devs in this scene want to provide half finished bull***** and endless adoration for it. Well if they ***** off because they don't get it then good riddance.
Good quality code stands on it's own merit you douche and credit will be given when it's warranted, not because some dev posts a friggen bias sound byte or clip claiming it.
Oh stfu you moronic fanboy! If the devs want to make the claim through a video like this then they should grow a pair themselves and allow for *any* kind of feedback, good or bad.
They made the claim the naysayers were wrong and they released a very bias video as their 'proof'.
If they get flamed for it then it's their own *****ing fault for trying to sway opinion.
You don't see Dax releasing videos of his gear do you? No of course not, because he doesn't need the community to suck his ***** to know he's doing good work! HIS work stands on it's own merit and good quality devs follow the same principles.
This Beta is heading in the right direction for sure, but it's WAY too early for you morons to be waving streamers and lining up at the glory hole to blow them off.
If you think they've achieved perfection with this enough to warrant the 'HA HA HA YOU *****S WERE ALL WRONG!' video they've released here, then you're either blind, an idiot fanboy or just plain deluded.
So what, it's a crime to have an opinion now, child prÃck! Plus, this isn't about sucking Dev *****, it's about showing appreciation to a project that gets mostly flak from people because the dev's take there time realising updates or bug fixes.
Besides, you can't compare DaX's work to DaedalusX64. there two completely different types for programs. Open you psp software book for dummies and you'll find that M33 is a CFW and DaedalusX64 is a EMU.
I'm not flags of glory and brown nosing them, but this is some of there best work so far. it's not perfect, however it's damn close.
I don't code, I don't care about coding, but I know it takes talent and skill. Quit being a flamer and support the people who use their spare time to make something for us to enjoy. Where are your apps, blackthorn?
Making a console run games from another console, which is does not have the hardware for, is damn near impossible. Even more so when the consoles in question cross companies. The Daedalus project is coming along quite nicely, considering the PSP and N64 have such different internals.
When did the devs demand praise? They released a VIDEO showing that they made progress, and that people who said they would get nowhere were wrong.
No PSP emulator is perfect. Even something as simple as the Atari 2600 or NES are flawed. The N64 is just more powerful, and therefore more difficult, to code for. Go play Daedalus 1 and then X64 Beta 2 and see how much progress has been made.
I can't believe that people are COMPLAINING about the quality of this emulator that was supposed to be impossible in the first place. I've gotten all the way through Mario 64! Sure the sound probably skips a little. I was listening to Pink Floyd during it so I wouldn't know. But it's AWESOME that this works at all!
and now we're gonna get Zelda64 support?? I can't wait! :)
just looking for attention.
keep it up!!!!!!!!
the video capture slows it down and it was played with no frameskip and the software clipping was enabled. with a frameskip of 1-2 and software clipping disabled and no sound and all the new features it will be able to run at full speed.
"Where are your apps, blackthorn?"
I am not the one posting You Tube clips saying "YOU WERE ALL WRONG! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME!"
"Making a console run games from another console, which is does not have the hardware for, is damn near impossible."
Yet the PSX games run at near perfect speed on a hand held that's of completely different architecture. You fail.
"When did the devs demand praise? They released a VIDEO showing that they made progress, and that people who said they would get nowhere were wrong."
Rewatch the video you idiot fanboy. Take special note of the bull***** at the front of the clip. You don't quote 'the naysayers' in such a fashion if you're not making a statement - or are you just too stupid to know the difference?
"No PSP emulator is perfect. Even something as simple as the Atari 2600 or NES are flawed. The N64 is just more powerful, and therefore more difficult, to code for. Go play Daedalus 1 and then X64 Beta 2 and see how much progress has been made"
That's a joke. There's a number of Emulators on the PSP that make this one look like a joke. Snes, Neo Geo, GBA, NES and others run over 90% of the console catalogue for those games with full feautres, no bugs and over 30fps smoothly. *****, even the PSX games run on the PSP at near 100% speed.
Yeah, it's not easy to code - I grant that. It's the combination of the grandstanding on behalf of the dev team making false claims with bias videos combined with the idiot fanboys among you who refuse to look at the full picture that piss me off.
Like I said in the first place... YES, it's coming along nicely - but there's no *****ing way it's at a level yet where you should be creaming your pants and clearing memory stick space in anticipation.
Fact is, if the devs didn't want to be flamed then they shouldn't have gone posting clips big noting their achievements and THAT dear fanboy is the bottom *****ing line.
"So what, it's a crime to have an opinion now, child prÃck!"
You hypocrite!!! So you're defending one's right to an opinion when you're flaming people who aren't full of praise? Idiot!!!!!
"it's about showing appreciation to a project that gets mostly flak from people because the dev's take there time realising updates or bug fixes."
You fail. The flame wasn't for that at all - it was for the release of the video big-noting their achievements that was obviously rigged and bias to portray a project that's more advanced than it realistically is.
"Besides, you can't compare DaX's work to DaedalusX64. there two completely different types for programs. Open you psp software book for dummies and you'll find that M33 is a CFW and DaedalusX64 is a EMU."
Which shows clearly you missed the *****ing point you numbnuts. It's a comparison of ATTITUDE between developers you spastic, not the actual content of what they code.
"I'm not flags of glory and brown nosing them, but this is some of there best work so far. it's not perfect, however it's damn close."
Actually yes, you are. You're so *****ing blind you're happy to overlook the propaganda and chest beating and flame anyone who does point it out. If anything, it makes you a CLASSIC fanboy so ***** off with the flawed logic and stupid excuses will you and get the ***** out of your eyes.
Fact is, ANY good dev team doesn't need this sort of bull***** to promote their product. Good code stands for itself and even if they did release a clip, they should have just showed actual gameplay with proper sound and FPS meters to REALLY show what people can expect, rather than this propaganda, grandstanding bull*****.
It was their call to stand around and poke ***** back at the naysayers - not mine. We have as much a right of reply as they do in making their statements and if you don't like it, then you can quite frankly go ***** yourself.
Have a nice day.
"I can't believe that people are COMPLAINING about the quality of this emulator that was supposed to be impossible in the first place"
People are not complaining about the quality of the emulator - they're complaining about the release of a propaganda, arrogance driven clip calling out naysayers whilst providing a bias clip without sound and showing only low CPU intensive clips without FPS meters or settings listed as 'proof' of their prowess.
They deserve to be *****ing flamed, it's just a joke so many fanboy idiots on this site jump to their defence without the least amount of individual thought or cynicism.
Oh and sickofitall - ***** my ***** you moron. It's not about attention - it's about keeping the bastards honest.
I'd expect you to know the difference ***** - but I guess considering the average IQ of the retards on this site I probably shouldn't be surprised. Uneducated sheeple are always the first to accept any bull***** they're fed as fact.
You don't like the fact I point all of this ***** out not because it's the truth, but because of my attitude. QQ.
Sad....
Im getting tired of all this god dang hype , why is QJ even covering this sad attempt at "fame"
blackthorn is right in his statement- Good developers of programs do not make videos to propagate there work- the community is the one who does that
If you want a good example here is one
Remember a similar thing happened lately
HelldashX
Miriam
This "man" stole Dark-Alex work , created a video to claim he was the one who created this exploit and finally from humiliation he left the psp community.
Same story -
.
@blackthorn. If you are unhappy with this version, you can make your own emulator and shut up.
I'm not the one grandstanding and saying that I've achieved the unachievable douchebag.
#1 retort from fanboys ALWAYS is....
"Go and do it better yourself"
It's a pathetic copout.
And fanboys blow devs who throw any piece of crap in their path.
What's your point oh master of literary wit?
Far out the fanboys on this site get more stupid by the day...
Miriam didnt steal DAX's code, dax gave it to him to finish working on HEN. You would know that if you pulled your head out your ass and actually read the entire article.
blows donkeys too.
.
it's not like you had one helpful thing to say on here about this program. All you have been doing here is complaining.
If you are that unhappy with this homebrew, by all means, you do not have to use it. But a lot of people here do care about this and the next releases. You complaining about the progress does not do anybody any favors.
It's not a copout. You just call it one because you have nothing to say in return.
It's an actual challenge to you. If you cannot make one better than they have, then who are you to put down what they have work so hard on?
When you can single-handedly make an emulator that runs 30+ fps with clear sound, then go ahead and say all you want. Until then, sit down, shut up, and enjoy the ride.
fanboy (n.) - a pseudo attempt at an insult, usually used when the insulter has no base argument against the insulted
Ex:
Person 1 - I don't really care what you're saying, I don't think the PS3 it that good. Unlike the PS3 (which is really just a PS2+) the Wii actually came with some innovation to it.
Person 2 - OMG lol ur teh Nintendoz fanboy!!!!1one
Just so you know. It gets really annoying when every third word someone spouts is "fanboy," especially since it has no real meaning.
I see where he's coming from, He hasn't said anything bad about the emulator at all, he's just pointing out how the video just makes the developers look a little *****y, hopefully joking.
He is not forming his opinion about the emulator, just the video. I agree with him, until the emulator is released and all the hype that they just built up for themselves is fulfilled, than I take back what I said.
regardless, I see big improvements, keep up the good work.
Blackthorn, just leave this site, you can't form your own opinion here and have it considered, no matter how hard you try. As soon as you say something the LEAST bit negative, they'll just try and bring you down for no reason. I'm going to get flak here too, but I just want to say what I want to say, not say what I think is the right thing to say. All he said was that they created a lot of hype with the video, but its currently undeserved, once it gets released and they meet the hype, than they earned their praise.
But I didn't like the way you said it, your just picking fights now. Let me try to express my opinion. The video that the devs released just gave the new build a ton of hype and praise, but currently its a bit undeserved. Once its released and they meet that hype, than they earned their adoration and praise. But anyways, I see a ton of improvement on this build, but we'll hopefully see the real potential of this emulator soon. Keep up the good work.
Not that attention whores like you deserve anymore attention then you are currently receiving, I would like to point out how childish you are behaving. So what if the devs are making claims. They aren't selling it, so they are in no way really benefiting from making this emulator. They are taking time out of their schedules to make something that the PSP community can enjoy. It's like someone previously commented said, it's because of people like you that discourage developers from developing software. It's a lot of hard work. How many lines of code can you write? Anyway, I call for the admins to ban your SN considering that none of your posts have been constructive and no one is benefiting from anything you have to say. It's apparent you have some sort of insecurity about yourself, or you're like 5 years old or something. Great you have made me stoop so low as to make an ad hominem argument. So, in short: Go ***** yourself.
By the way, where the hell do you get all this free time to write all these comments about a program that in the grand scheme of things really is not that important (no offense to the devs)?
Note to the Devs should you actually be reading this: Great job and keep up the good work. There are many people who appreciate all the hard work and effort into your apps. I personal look forward towards a more polished product and realize that this beta is just that, a beta, but its still an important step. Keep up the good work.
the devs released that video to say that some people are wrong. and indeed some people are wrong because the daedalus isn't dead yet because the devs are pouring their extra time over it. come to think of it, it's a great improvement considering they started from scratch. they have to write the program blindly on their own unless nintendo goes in front of their doorsteps and hands them the code.
it shows you never understand anything about this because you, like most other idiots, demand a finished product and demand it fast. these things take time and a lot of changes and the people who download them usually help by sending out feedbacks as to the problems of the test program. i bet you haven't done that. i bet you just wanted it to instantly play everything at full speed. come on, you need a little schooling, you neanderthal. :)
so, given the time they spent and the success they achieved, they have the bragging rights for it since it is their program. i don't how any guy could not have understood bragging rights so i am quite convinced that blackthorn in either 6 years old, a person with an IQ of a six year-old, or god forbid, he's gay.
i think the latter would apply since he swears a lot. that would mean he's old. old and gay.
well, kudos to the devs of this project. you have gone a long way yet there's a lot more to go. :) we'll be on the sidelines anticipating your success. i hope you achieve a near-perfect emulation and wide compatibility.
blackthorn, you shouldn't forget having your estrogen pills so you would have to rant like that with your mood swings. not sure if gays have mood swings though but then, take care of yourself. and next time, try not to make an idiot out of yourself be ranting on someone else's work unless you have done better, ok? you are not on their level. you are just a bystander, an audience, and for that matter, a leech of their program. so if you don't have words of encouragement or the bucks to fund them, to make the project achieve quick success, then you can shut your piehole 'til it stinks, we don't care. or you could take the suggestion of the others, go blow a goat or a donkey. :) you should understand that a lot of people don't like what you said here or is your head that thick?
Please look up the definition of an emulator right now. This is progress and don't bash people who are putting time and effort into a non-profit project. Why would they be using "propaganda" to promote an open source N64 emulator for the PSP?
I think blackthorn is GAY. It's so gay of him or I mean "Her" to comment on somebody else's work when he himself does not have the balls to create one for himself or herself. Maybe he/she oughta change his/her name from BLACKTHORN to GAYTHORN. Owned!!!
haha blackthorn is gay because he does not have the "balls" to make something like this himself?!?!...... you cant just assume everyone is some type of wizkid nerd. and you are trying to insult him by saying hes not? haha! you and all the other million virgins on this site can go ***** yourselves hahhaah hehehe lol!
...more fail in these two comments than I thought was possible in a 3-inch space of computer screen.
Oh.. Little Ghetto ***** is taking sides with Blackthorn. Maybe you two should go and **** each other up.
Heroes are not welcome here. Go back to Planet *****y! Bwahahahahaha!! !
This "person" doesnt deserve anyone's attention. Not here and not in life in general. Go ***** yourself and leave us "mindless" followers of daedalus to enjoy the show without rude buzz-killing suppositions such as yours. Yours truly, a daedlus fan.
i cant wait till donkey kong 64 runs at full speed u guys are amazing i cnt wait for the new releases to come out
Seriously can we include this fruitcake dego blackthorn on the intro to beta 3? Anyone with a brain can see what an enormous improvement the beta 2 is over the beta 1 and no its not perfectly playable because newsflash... its a BETA!!!
I have the utmost respect and appreciation for the coders who have devoted their time to bring us this free software and say Thank you to Salvy, StrmnNrmn, Wally and everyone who has contributed. Just by looking at the improvement of the first level of sm64 from beta 1 to beta 2 you can see a massive improvement. And stop *****ing about the sound you gotta learn to walk before you can learn to run.
Beta 2 will be out soon enough. (We're trying for sometime next week.)
@Blackthorn
You are right to question what you see. (It's not 100% and most games are not full speed merely playable, but that is subjective.) I am a dev on this project, but also a realist. While I thought Wally's video was nice... it runs slower than the actual app (See Salvy's comment on improvements since Beta 1) Also constructive criticism is welcome. The only thing I would disagree with is the way you presented the counter argument. Language like that only shows a lack of intelligence and is only going to piss people off. (Which seems like what you were trying to do.)
@Others talking to Blackthorn
There is no need to sink to the level of of those that insult you by doing the same thing to them. It only shows your lack of intelligence.
@Everyone else
Thanks for any supportive comments and remember yo can always check the latest progress @ http://daedalusx64.com/index.php
Thanks,
Kreatinz
Well sorry dude, I was just pissed at this Blackthorn guy trying to ***** other people with his criticisms. Well people are entitled to their own opinion.. Let him have his happy thoughts..
@blackthorn
have you like any other person (that like to keep up to date with things) ever bothered takeing the time to download the updated source code and compile it? i did yesterday even tho it's still beta 1 it runs beautifully. w/o turning anything on. default is nice. now no telling if the current source code released is part of beta 2 or not ether or you should download it and try it out and quit flaming the comments
awww. :) i completely understand however, sometimes it's nice to sink in their level to give them back what they've been throwing. i wouldn't want to be unfair right? so i just have to go and step down. :)
hehehe... anyway, kudos mate. :) you guys have been doing a good job at the project. hopefully some new breakthrough happens so it'll give you better ammunitions for improvement. you guys can do it.
