And the results are in! As promised yesterday, StrmnNrmn's drafted a shortlist of the ten lucky finalists for his Daedalus PSP icon design contest. Just so you guys know, it's been a difficult process for him in trying to narrow down the competition to just ten since there were a lot of great artwork submitted.

StrmnNrmn's received a little under 200 entries in total - would you believe? - and it took him quite a while to come up with the shortlist. As he states in his blog:

In the end I had a 'longlist' of around 30 entries which I thought were superb, and it's taken me over an hour to whittle that down to just 10 entries.

Now for those who joined... do you think you you made it to the top 10? The finalists are (in order that they sent in their entries): Cladil, Pleaser, Basim Darwish, Steven La, Victor Aguirre, Joël Dos Santos, Jay Mc, Patrick Ahmann, Hykypoo, and juniorslick363.

As you can see from the winning artwork, StrmnNrmn chose the finalists based on a wide spectrum of "look and feel." From your colorful backgrounds, to your subdued hues, from your graffiti-ed, to vector-ed. (Note that we only posted the backgrounds - in no particular order - and not the icons made by their creators.)

You  may check the rest of the artwork in StrmnNrmn's blog, via the source link below. The homebrew emulator developer is inviting discussion over the finalists' works (he said he'll be reading comments over the weekend) and he gives great thanks to all those who've joined the contest. The winner will be announced on Monday!

Hmm...

I like number 4 and 6. The rest are pretty, but they don't really have themes befitting of a Nintendo console. Cool blue would fit best.

...

I like number 6 and number 8.

Jeeeeess...

The only one in the ten that comes even close to a nintendo them is number 3 Mario. The others look nice but has nothing to do with what you'd expect a N64 console theme to look like. Mario will be the winner but the others do look nice, unless StrmnNrmn wants to step away from a N64 theme and have it more unique, in that case I'd say 2 + 8 are the best. In all honesty though if he is going for a N64 based theme I'd say his old theme is better than any of these ten options. Like his N64 banner at the top of this blog.

Booooooo!!!!

#3 is clearly a nice, Nintendo related picture, but doesn't it BREAK the rules? I thought you weren't supposed to use Nintendo Trademarked characters for this contest...

Small error.. ;-)

----As you can see from the winning artwork, StrmnNrmn chose the finalists based on a wide spectrum of "look and feel." ----- Nobody has WON yet, so there is no "Winning artwork" to "see".

Your first one was pretty good. Not to nag or anything, but the colors were a little too blended. It was a little difficult to see, since it was basically just red and black. A couple of more colors added to it woulda made it look a lot nicer. And no offense, but the second picture was a little too plain. I mean it was just the word Daedalus. Nonetheless, the first one was very nice, and a lot better than the one I told Strmnrmn to use. Nice work, and keep up your great graphics work, makaveli! @mikeymike01: No refunds and no returns. Sorry, you'll have to keep your old eyes.

copywritten material on these icons+bg

Strmnnrmn said to be creative on this contest and not to use any Nintendo logos or anything to do with the Nintendo "N" logo. Why, I don't know, he allowed the Top 10 winners to have it. My Icon+BG was gorgeous. Lol! My BG especially was creative, somewhat. Strmn told me there was an error in my sending to him of the icon+bg, so if there was no error I may could've been in that Top 10. just my luck... well it's alright. I'm using mine as my Daedalus theme. Thanx Strmn for putting out this contest, it was fun trying. _|--| metal 4evr
