Scenery Beta 2008: Homebrew Festival for the PSP, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PC - Image 1Heads up, homebrew developers! Grupo SceneBeta.com is holding the first Scenery Beta 2008, a kinda-contest for homebrew across platforms, namely for the Nintendo Wii and DS, the PSP, and the PC.

Scenery Beta 2008 is officially a homebrew festival, an exhibition (or a fiesta!) of sorts, giving developers a chance to showcase their homebrew. However, people will still get a chance to win some cash prizes. The group's giving away more than EUR 2000 (US$ 3,147) in prizes to the most outstanding works.

The cash prizes will be awarded depending on the score given by other coders, and the community. Each prize tier will also include a 2 GB Pendrive. Each platform will have two categories, with five awards given to each category. The two categories are games and applications.

Winners will be announced on the first of October. Follow the link below for the rules and the instructions on how to enter.

Thanks to Unicorn for the tip!

» what's the point in this rule

"All homebrews presented must have been significantly changed or developed during last year." I don't really get why this rule is in place. Basically, it means that the only new games released will be ones that have been worked on in 2007. Are they trying to ensure that the released games are totally awesome (since they've been in development for at least 6 months already) or something? I don't get it.

I do like how they're giving extra points for open source, though.

» We will consider

the "old games" in 2007 and the new Homebrew presented in Scenery Beta. In this last case, the Homebrew will get more points.

Doing so, we make the coders to improve their works. So the users can enjoy a new version of the best Homebrews. But we dont want to force anyone to modify his/her Homebrew, we just want to give a little homage to great coders.

If a coder wants to participate with a Homebrew, he/she can do it. And then users, other coders, and Staff members will decide if that Homebrew deserves one of our Awards.

I hope you understand us now.

So updates of old games and completely new games are both allowed, the latter getting more points? Why is that rule in the rules list if it is not the case? That rule seems to exclude any game that was started in 2008.

» Old games and new ones

I will copy two sentences of the official rules:

""Those homebrews presented as a novelty for Scenery Beta will have a score bonus.""

""All homebrews presented must have been significantly changed or developed during last year."" (of course, including 2008, and including Homebrew created to participate in the Showcase.

I will Edit the official rules.
