RSPsar Dumper v3.4 - ready for Sony's PSP firmware 4.00 - Image 1

With Miriam bidding farewell to the PSP homebrew scene just a few days ago, we find ourselves with another well-known coder leaving the building. Red_Squirrel of Alternative VSH Menu, RSPsar Dumper, and CTF Manager fame has announced that he will leave the PSP scene for good. *teardrops*

I first heard of this earlier, thanks to Mr_Shizzy via the forums, when I was posting that bit about the NoUMD Plugin, and it almost went by under the radar if it wasn't for his heads up.

Here's Red Squirrel's entire farewell post, dated January 15 - the day after Miriam's announcement:

With this little post I say goodbye to PSP scene officially. The reasons are essentially three: first of all, I never have free time to spend for this console development, because of the study and a real life more chaotic and stressful, as well as interest turned to other platforms. Another reason is that I don't touch a PSP from many months, an "interesting" game is not released from about a year in Europe... and then in PSP scene exists all you need, all has been coded, so I consider it as a "finished" and very very boring panorama. At the end, some things happened in PSP scene during last days deeply impressed me, because I understood (a more time again...) as the PSP scene is ill, with its "boss", its "smarts" and its "lamers".

For this and other reasons I officially annouce my retirement from the scene: there will be NO updates to my tools, so please stop to ask for them using my email address. I will continue with the development of tools for other platforms (Windows, WII, Linux, ecc...) and I will keep updated this my personal website, so stay tuned! ;)

Red Squirrel, if you're reading this, do know that you will surely be missed. A toast to you, and godspeed!

Aside from Mr_Shizzy, we're also giving a shout out to Sbrillion1 for prodding us via email!

Can't blame him.

Too many pricks in the homebrew community (a few coders, and mainly users).

it's hard to even call them users. they're mostly warez-kiddies.

but hey, there are tons of dumb people in every console community. it's just that psp ones are the majority currently.

It's true that the psp is dead, there are not enough releases for the psp.

Just take a look on Monster Hunter. After releasing part 2 Japan gets a update "2nd G" with just a small portion of extra's.

And still no *****ing release outside Asia, webshops like play-asia doesn't ship japanese/asian games to other regions. Because if they do they get ass raped like liksang and being shut down.

To me the DS is dead as well, I haven't see good games around for a while (Mario, zelda, castlevania) what I see here around the stores are retarded games with an tag "3+" so there you have your "awesome" selling points.

I still refuse to try gaming on the wii, it's already tiresome to game on intense games... plus you're swinging the "wii-mote" like a moron. And as an extra you'll get the risc to pwn your tv with the "wii-mote" and the small amount of magical power of your own strength.

The PSP scene isn't dieing out, it's merely being replaced by other people.

All the people who wanted to help out the community to build their own really cool games are gone and what's left are the people who want to download ISO's and play them illegally... It's a shame.

And what about your source codes, Red Squirrel?

I would love to see the source code for your AlternativeVSH Menu.

Well it is very sad to see another good dev move on but you can't blame the guy for his motives. There's some real *****ing *****s in this scene (as with any online community) who are more concerned with cred and online fame than producing quality code.

Mind you, even if all homebrew for the PSP stopped tomorrow you'd still have portable gaming goodness to last you until the next big handheld to hit the market simple through emulation.

I find it terribly sad we're STILL waiting for a GOOD MAME release on this handheld. Even the GP2X has had a solid EMU in this department now for some time...

Wait, so the DS is dead because there hasn't been a Mario, Zelda or Castlevania released in the last what... Ecclesia was launched in October? Hahah. Jeez, if the DS is dead after it's last big release was a couple of months ago where does that put the PSP or PS3

:laughs:

The PS2 also had lots of kiddie games, lots of shovel ware because it was the most popular system. So did the PS1... I don't get half the arguments these kids are making. I guess that's what they call a "fanboy".

# Just got it because of brawl.DarkXCloud 2009-01-19 09:23
I just wanted to play brawl lol and twilight.

I still buy games for it though, but HD Consoles are the way to go for hardcore gamers.

Red Squirrel made the right choice, the PSP scene (or PSP Scream) is full of Wankers and 12 year olds (or those whom act like it constantly) who have no respect for anyone but themselves and think throwing a tantrum will get them places. ("RELEASE THIS NOW" or simply saying "THIS SUCKS" which puts the developers off big time as they do release at their own will from their own equipment to the public. There's probably a lot of projects that have been kept private because people expect updates every hour of the day also these projects may be released once close to completion.

So those who are under 16 years old (Those I don't speak to or like), put a sock in it. Show some respect to the devs or try coding yourself.

Red Squirrel, see you in the Wii Scene!! Hopefully its a little more friendly in this aspect.

Good Luck!

One or two PSP devs are also cry-babies wankers as well...

So long Red Squirrel I look forward to your other projects.
