QuickJump QuickGuide Issue #2: What's your Firmware? OFWs and CFWs database (Part 1) |

Originally posted on 17 February, 2009 at 08:58AM
It's Tuesday once again, and you know what we've got in store for you every Tuesday: the QJ QuickGuides series! For this week, we're now moving up a notch to Issue #2, and after having gone through the most basic homebrew terms there is to know about via the PSP Homebrew Dictionary from Issue #1 (and we're not done updating that yet!), now it's time to have a look at the Firmwares that have shaped and molded our much-loved PSP handhelds to the wonder-platform that it is today.
We proudly present to you the QJ QuickGuides Issue #2: What's your Firmware: OFWs and CFWs database. As the title suggests, we will be providing you with the basic information, via a comparative table, between the Official Firmwares from Sony, and the Custom Firmwares developed by our homebrew Gods.
To make it more efficient, we have placed it in table format, so it'll be much easier for you guys to check out what got installed where, and what was the counter-hack of the devs to the official updates. It's a true battle of the wits, you'll see.
But since it's gonna be a looooong trek back through history, we have decided to make this issue a two-parter, just so you guys won't have to wade through heaploads of Firmware information in one sitting. At least there'll be more for you to come back to next week, right?

Very helpful. While checking those firmwares, it made me comtemplate about when the PSP hacking community was still so small. Good Times.
i remember when pandora first came out and you had to use the command prompt in order to make a battery and magic memory stick....yeah :) good times
If you thought that was hard try using the tiff exploit made even before the pandora hack. I'd say the pandora was the easiest way to downgrade the psp, other than if you had 1.5 in your psp.
yea i hated that tiff exploit, but i'll do anything for homebrew
I didn't even know psp homebrew existed until after pandoras battery was created. I think its funny though, how many security holes were in the old firmwares.
Lumines for me.. buffer overflow exploit 3.40 OE was my first, loved my psp so much more back then. "/
Let the good times roll... :D :)
ive been with homebrew since the very first kxploit where you had to switch mem sticks... oh... good times.....
ME 2! sincei have followed the psp homebrew scene since the beginning , since the first hacks. lol at WAB! ahh memories.
Under 3.30 OE-A it says 3.10.
Corrected, thanks ;)
The GTA hack? Or at least I think that was the game that needed to be in the UMD slot to boot the games from the memory slot.
I remember all those My first psp came with FW 1.51 and I was really pissed off cause it wasn't 1.5. Tiff exploit helped me downgrade back in the day, It wasn't that bad as you people said. What I really had no clue about how to use was the damn devhook, It was soo complicated I had to use an easy-installer or something like that. The first CFW I had was 3.03 OE-C I think, It was really good to be able to play your own PSX games, still is hehe
Good ol Epsilian Bios/UP modchip. I remember those days. My first PSP was a North American launch unit. eventually i bricked the thing using a homebrew app that allowed you to change the bootvid. My how the scene has changed. Good ol "psphacker"
who here remembers DEVHOOK thoes were the real times they should release a new deve hook you could mod the firmware and not even worrie about bricking!!!!
i remember good times I remember DEVHOOK allllllll the way back that was the best
I'm an old one from back in the day. My psp came with 1.5 :) I think it's about time I check back in with the community, it seems a lot has changed. I'm looking forward to the next part of this quickguide to see where I should begin again. It's great to see QJ still kicking.
anyone remember this one? it was for 2.0->1.5 yep the good old days
these guides are absolutely wonderful. i really think you should a permanent link to all of these guides on the psp.qj.net main page.
