PSX-P Alpha Build - First PSX Emulator Released! |
The moment many PSP enthusiasts have been waiting for – the Alpha release of Yoshihiro’s PSXP v0.1! In the past, it was believed that emulating the Nintendo 64 system was near impossible, yet PSMonkey and StrmnNrmn proved those critics wrong. Well, now Yoshihiro has taken emulation up a notch and has successfully emulated the Playstation released by Sony in 1994 (JP) and over 10 years later we are seeing it being emulated on a portable device!
One of the major aspects of the PSP is that it is stronger than the original Playstation and even comes to a point where many say it rivals the PS2Â’s graphics. Early this year, Sony announced that they are working on an official PS1 emulator for the PSP that will be released at a later date with a new firmware update. This will most likely come after the PS3Â’s launch.
Yoshihiro is, once again, breaking the boundaries of the PSP with this new emulator. This emulator is a port of the PC's PCSX so I wouldn't expect speed improvements to happen regularly. There have been several videos of the PSX emulator released in the past few days, many of which seemed too good to be true. However, the emulator is true, and you can test it out on your 1.50 PSP right now once you download it below!

Update: In light of the fact that Yoshihiro has not released the source code to his "port" of PSPSONE we have removed the download and have replaced it with the original PSPSONE emulator. As many readers have noted there is "no difference between PSPSONE and PSX-P except Yoshihiro's modified menu." As such we would like to support the original author who actually put the real work into this emulator.

If I were to rip my original PSX disks to an iso, would they work with the emu? (once it's so far done that it will run decently ofc etc.) or does it require more then just making an iso this time?

But dont take my word for it, open the config file in wordpad and you can clearly see that the bios and memcard reference points to PSPONE.

Chrono Cross loads up to where it says published by square electronics arts and then crashes
yes alcohol does make iso images just use image maker then choose iso,if not it plays bin files aswell which alochol can make.

Get ISOBuster, put in the disc, open ISOBuster, go to the CD/DVD tab and select your drive. Right click "CD" in the left menu, click Image>Extract Raw. Save it as a BIN file.
And Xenogears doesn't work
Regarding why we didn't say how fast it was -
A) We posted some videos yesterday showing the speed
B) The average frames per second has not been given/estimated
C) Those that assume it runs fast will find that it will run slow ;)
D) It's obvious how fast it runs isn't it.. Slow, not really playable - Alpha release should hint at that

i just tried this out with Raystorm and its *****ing amazing. well no where close to full speed, but it's playable and it's a start. it is really slow but buttons and firing and all that stuff respond. good *****ing stuff. cant wait til the full speed comes out.

i think you guys have done a great job, just played exhumed and it loads perfectly and no graphicial glitches, ok, it does run slower than normal but cos its an alpha release i didnt expect any more... to be honest its way more than i thought. Congrats ona great job and keep up the good work.

I decided to drop in all 7 BIOSes that I have...I will figure out which ones work and which ones dont...Once I figure out how to make ISO and BIN files again with all my old programs...The joy of living in Mexico - I have all the PSX games and they cost me about 2$ each!
im not trying to discourage this because its great but, man the emulator ported doesn't even play any of the final fantasys..not even on the PC version so that means it never will, would have been better if you ported a better one, but still great job.
First off, no BS, this works, albeit slowly, but then so did the N64 Emu.

this is a good emulator for a first release, but to set things straight this will NOT brick your PSP because it doesn't access any flash files anywhere, so people stop lying to scare others just because you upgrader your PSP and now you cant enjoy homebrew anymore

I just ripped my version of syphon filter 2 to an iso and tried playing it. All I get is it returning to XMB. Anyone know what this problem is from?
what happened is that some of the files in devhook became corrupt to correct this assuming your psp is connected to pc via usb.
1. go to MY COMPUTER
2. right click on the psp external drive
3. go to PROPERTIES
4. select the TOOLS tab
5.select the error- checking option under, [CHECK NOW...]
6. check the [automatically fix file system errors]
7. select START
after run devhook like you normaly would.
Because you suck at installing it you newbs, I tried my devhook after running PSXP and it works fine, your just retarded, get over it.
As for the bricking bulls**tters - I hope it really did brick your PSP's now you have no excuse you have no excuse to post - Please leave now.
You need the bios files for this to work, and nobody ever said it would work great anyway, It's not even Beta release, it's alpha release, this means it's for experienced people who know what they are doing, not Newbies (Including me before anyone gets wise, I aint experienced, I looked at it, and now its off my console until a stable version is released) so stop moaning, and stop expecting miracles.

I ripped the first disk of mgs and it gave me 3 files the game iso, IMAGE.sub, and IMAGE.ccd; where do i put all this in order for it to run???????

OMG !! I can't believe number 97 asked if Valkyrie Profile works. Where have you been you freakin' retard, under a rock your whole life ? Did you just come into this world today or what ? As many people know, (I guess with you being an exception you must have been left out of the loop), you can already play Valkyrie Profile: Leneth on the PSP, and it's just the same as the original PSX version was, only the cutscene graphics have been improved and replaced with 3D ones.
To Number 72: DoubleDragon, I couldn't agree with you more on how it amazes me as well, that there are so many freakin' idiots that show up here, and do little to contribute to, or even make any kind of intellectual comment, other than to post or ask stupid, but yet plainly obvious questions some people have repeated more than once to them. I bet that if you were to look inside the ears of one of these dumb a**es, the only thing you would expect to find would be limit less empty space. this is only the alpha release and already i see that video emulation is perfect. Speed is about the only thing left to work on, and i think this has some potential. Look what happened with daedalus. It's at 15-20 fps already, and since he hasn't spoken for a while, who knows what Norm is up to now? Holy friggin crap, and this psx emu is only an alpha?? I bet this could reach 30 fps in a few months! I am definately getting AT LEAST a 2gb memory stick for this! (image files are massive unfortunately)
If this emulator isn't up to snuff compared to the official Sony ps1 emulator, I wonder if they would be able to study or get their hands on the source code for the Sony emulator, study that and see how they can optimize. Just a thought. I'm sure they may have already considered that.

i tried vagrant story and it crashes right after the the screen comes on and show just alittle of suaresoft.
also got exhumed to work a few frames faster by bumping up the processor speed to 333 mhz using custom firmware 1.5 it's nearly playable now.
Playing Suiekoden right now, runs at about 5fps but still amazing. Great work!!! BTW this does not brick PSP.

This my the single most desired game to play on the PSP.
I'm betting that given the PS1 version is a very light port from PC to PS1, that it's possible it'll run better than most PS1 games (unless there's a stopgap somewhere to bung it up). heck the original game ran on a 33mHz (or was it 66) at full speed.

The reason why it is passworded is so that dumb people don't just throw the file around. They want people to know where it came from. Sure you can include the password in the filename, but they still get what they want. the only way around is to remake the zip. It's a bit much to fuss over.

After this guys track record I was half expecting a bunch of delays and then a cancellation. Anyway this is nice and all but the official one will be released long before this becomes anywhere near playable. And no I am not saying this because I have a 2.81 PSP as a matter of fact I have a 2.81 and a 1.5 PSP so it doesn't matter to me. I am happy to wait for the REAL PS1 emulator that will work. So while all of you are hoping for the next update to this that will maybe get it up to 5 of 10 fps I will be playing my full speed emu. Yes you will have to buy the games but just like every other game released on every other console someone will upload them to the net for free so I will wait thank you very much.

Hmm, I somehow doubt it. If you tried to run it like I did you'd know it runs extremely slow. You might say, 'well it will get faster'. But it's a fact that there homebrew browser scene never caught up to the PSP's built-in browser so there is no reason to assume that this will ever be as good as the PS1 emulator Sony are about to release. I guess the time is right for Sony to fire back with a full speed emulator in FW3.0... It'd be a tough decision to move to it though...

I tried marvel vs capcom and Quake II wont work.
Ok, the emulator ported was PCSX apparently. If it really IS pcsx, then it should EASILY support them. PCSX and EPSXE are equal in compatibility and speed, and both supporta bout 99% of all games on the PC, so technically that compatibility should be there on the PSP too, just far slower.
So then why don't squaresoft games work in the ported version of PCSX? They definitely should, unless he ported a VERY old version of pcsx.
I would normally expect this to improve under this situation, but I find it puzzling that such a well coded and high compatibility/high performance emulator wouldn't play those games after beiing ported.
I honestly suspect that this isn't really a port of PCSX, or a port of a seriously outdated version, I really wish the source was available so that I could port the newer and high quality pcsx versions.
Also, a new GPU/spu plugins would need to be developed too, which will not be easy. A simple port of pete's gpu will not happen.
This will never be as good, as fast, or as compatible as the official emulator, which will in turn not be as compatible as PCSX/epsxe on the PC.
Not to belittle anybody's work though.

nice vid, I am going to wait for a beta. I want to conserve my space until my 4 gig comes in the mail. You wouldn't believe how long it takes to ship a little teeny tiny chip. But I am going to stick with the older system emus, cause not even the N64 runs with sound or full speed, i am totally surprised that a PSX emu even runs on a PSP. If only there was a way to make an external hard drive, like a mini comp tower for the PSP, that would be hot. Good luck to the developers, i'll be waiting for the next release.
sony is gonna be more pissed than when they found out about devhook, psx emulation = loss of money for sony so i doubt it will legally go on for much longer

Tekken 3 works!!! yes, but it is a little laggy. also, does this have a main game it works off of? you know, like n64 has mario 64. idk, but this is a cool start. i definitely can't wait till it gets to strmnnrmn's speed at this point of time.
also comedy, isobuster finds bad sectors in the cd. it is sooo confusing.

use iso buster to create a raw file with the original game but it crashes at the opening movie hope an up date doesnt take long or it would be an early Xmas if DAX worked some magic on it
I tried playing Tekken 2 a milion times. Each time, it would freeze at the "NAMCO PRESENTS" screen. I first tried with the scph-7502 bios. Then I tried the scph-1001. Then I tried ten different bioses at the same time. No matter what I did, it still just stopped at the "NAMCO PRESENTS" screen, and then after a while, the PSP would just turn off. Has anyone else tried Tekken 2.

Ok, i borrowed my friend's Gig memory card. I put all bio versions in the bios folder and used a IMG version of GBA2. Unfortunitlly, it crashes after it passes the Bandai logo. ;(
i dont think you need to change things from .img to .iso or .bin, i just d/l FF7 .img and it worked up to the opening movie
Final Fantasy Tactics loads and plays (must skip movie intro by pressing start however or else it will crash.) It is slow but it a very good start.
This looks REALLY cool, but I'm not gonna download it yet. I'm just worried about bricking my PSP, cuz apparently some people did. Plus, it sounds like it's not too fast at this point with a lot of incompatible games. Don't worry, I'm not gonna ***** and be stupid about it. This is AMAZING that someone finally got a PSX emulator to the PSP. I'll download after a few more releases and when I know what the hell I'm doin with it...

Firstly, it dosn't brick your damn psp, theres gotta be some loosers who spam such a thing.
Devhook is unaffected by the emuator, and if it is, just copy ur devhook along with any of its files back on ur ms...
As for the location of the BIOS, go fetch it, im sure theres a million illegal copies on the net, just do some searching...
As for GAMES, just find any program such as iso buster that will rip cd's to binary format...
As for "WORKING" games, why don't you try batman and tekken, don't you think if any other games worked as well they would show it in a video? ( Previously. )

I am sorry to announce, the "noobs" who are claiming their devhook no longer work, are infact not lying and are absolutly not expected to know what happened.
This release DOES, i repeat DOES FLASH...
It accesses FLASH1 and modify's any devhook flash1 installations, which renders your devhook completly useless IF YOU HAD IT FLASHED.
The quick solution is to use the devhook launcher and unflash flash1...

I managed to play Crash bash, I think at frame rates of 20-25 or so.

If You can figure it out then I don't know what to tell you. You probly have an mdf file for u PSX game atm. Just use MagicISO to convert into an ISO then mount it on Alcohol 120%. Then start to make a new image and pick your mounted image and re-make it into a Playstation datatype ISO. *Make sure u have Playstaion datatype selected in the drop down menu*

I think this is the first build thats been relased I have seen about 3 videos of this psx emu, one of them was like beta 3 with the PSX icon emulating and it was running pSX homebrew at around 20 frames a sec
if you mean the emulator that came out around september 2005 then I dont think the pspone is getting supported any more, it could even changed its name to this but who knows?

i keep hearin the official ps1 emulator is comin out in november? Do you all honestly belive this will be at full speed by then? Furthermore when it does come out, give it a few weeks and we can use devhook to access the emulator. ADDITIONALLY games are going to be available via download from the psp for a price. That means that they will be saved to your memory stick! And therefore its quite easy to put those games on the net, or put your own isos on ur psp to be played at full speed.

has anyone got their devhook working again yet? psxp worked (with Brave Fencer Musashi), but devhook wont load isos now. it loads it once, then wouldnt work. tried unflashing, it said flash1 wasnt flashed, tried reinstalling and the same thing happened again, loads once and then black screen. any solutions?
sh*t why did i upgrade it to a 2.8. oh well . atleast it loads up but it restarts. i'm ok with that, i'll just have to wait

This is great news, some people on this site need to learn a little respect. This guy has been working on this emulator for ages, and reading the comments one guy said this is as good as nothing. Well, when this thing is released im sure everyone with a 1.5FW psp will download this. So just be patient and wait. If you haven't got anything good to say don't say anything at all. The creator knows that the framerate is poor and that it is currently unplayable but hes working hard on this. So don't bring him down!

So i am running DewPrism on it [aka Threads of fate] Through eloader on my ic1003 fw 2.71 that can't be downgraded lol. Can't wait for this psx emu to be complete. So far so good no graphic tearing, no garbled anything. So far i have been playing it slowly for 20 minutes and stable!
