PSPUAE v0.63 progress updates |
Ó
Over at the official PSPUAE site, PSPUAE site admin FOL gives a progress update of the now-in-development PSPUAE v0.63.The report says that they've been thinking of ways to utilise the Media Engine (2nd CPU of the PSP). However they add that running sound from the ME, might be dumped as it doesn't seem to yield any benefits.
They're also thinking about moving other functions to the ME. They hope that this will lift the load on the Main CPU, and he hopes that it will increase speed that way. They're thinking of running half of the Screen Rendering on the main CPU and the other half on the ME CPU.
They emphasize that since they're concentrating on optimizing the speed of PSPUAE, it will involve a lot of coding and that we shouldn't expect a release for at least a month or two. They ask users to be patient so just sit down and relax for now. We'll update you guys once we get more info from the team.

Well, I congratulate you (QJ) on actually giving us something more newsworthy than many of the more recent entries, but your article says NOTHING about what PSPUAE even is! I had to go to their website just to find out it's an Amiga emulator. I love the details, but I dislike the fact that you can't even get the broad ideas down.
I heard of this at another site yesterday and they didn't say what the thing was either so it isn't just (QJ) that did this. I tried some amigia games on a emulator before but didn't really like the games, so I am not really interested in this but good luck on it anyway.
oh i thought that this was like a car racing game lol
The Amiga was the first multi-tasking (home-)computer, so spreading tasks over more processors (I didn't know the PSP has more than 1 processor LOL ) makes it a better emulator I think.
Respect for the PSPUAE team !!
And for the people who don't know what the Amiga is/was.....without some of the developers of the Amiga there wouldn't be a PSX as we know it now, cause they helped developing the PSX.
I look forward to the day than an amiga/atari st emulator runs at full speed and without crappy sound!
psp dungeon master with quality sound and control!
we need this!
Ikari warriors oh la la!
The Amiga was a badass computer around from 1985-1995 made by Commodore. There were many models (each given a number) from Amiga 1000, 2000, 500, CDTV, 3000, 600, 1200, and 4000, and an ill fated game console called the CD32. The graphics were excellent for the time, easily beating the PC and Mac at its peak. It came with a 7mhz Motorolla 86000 processor originally.
Good luck making PSPUAE faster as all the recent updates were mostly cosmetic. I just need to find an easy way to copy my old games to a PC compatible format.
@ Kichigai
Hi, im really sorry, I have made a note, and will now include "What PSPUAE is" in all news posts over at pspuae.com.
I just asumed that everyone knew what it was, :(. Obviously not.
There is a beta knocking round the devs and testers at the moment, that has some speed optimistations, and the speed up is noticable. So hopefully, its all going to help.
Myself and GnoStiC are concentrating on HD support, while Ric and Thinkp, are concentrating on speed improvemnts. Will update the news on pspuae.com, when it progresses more, and I have something to post.
