Go Board (not an actual screenshot of game)

Zx-81 has dropped by the forums to inform us of his new port for the PSP, PSPGGO. PSPGGO, which stands for PSP GNU-Go. GNU-Go is an ASCII command line GO game running on MacOS X, Windows and many Unix systems. Go originally originated in China and is very popular within East Asia. Having played Go myself (on my Pocket PC), I can venture for its extreme difficulty, and is best played on an electronic device for those impatient people. The object of Go is to remain with the most pieces at the end of the game (when no more pieces can be placed) while taking over your opponent's adjacent pieces.

Zx-81 has ported GNU Go v3.6 to the PSP with a new GUI for the PSP and has confirmed that it's working "fine" on the PSP. The picture above details a standard Go board with several pieces already placed on it. The PSP version of this "board" game interacts in the same way in which GNU Go does on your computer, just modified for the PSP. You can download this great port below -

...

I wonder how "clever" the IA is. I red an article on how difficult it is to make a bot playing go due to the numbers of possible movements on the game board.

ummm

yeah technicaly you want terratory not a number of pieces so yea this isnt like othello or those kind of games

question

isnt this exactly like othello? for post #5 how is the number of your colour pieces different from amount of territory?
by - 2006-12-17 22:33:18
re:question

In go, territory consists of the empty spaces you are able to surround with your pieces. Depending on the scoring rules, your own pieces may or may not count as territory and the pieces you capture from your opponent may or may not count as extra points.

2 player mode?

Can't find a two player mode in there. Strange, as it is much easier to code than AI.

No "2 Player Mode" available

But you have to consider that this is only a port of an existent GNU Licence based game. It would be nice if Zx includes some extras for future versions such as "2 players Mode" and "2 Players Mode Ad-Hoc". Also some basic game instructions available via the Menu would be nice for people like me who had never played this sort of game. All in all it´s a very nice release, same as everything coming from him. Keep them coming Zx!

SGFs

Does anybody know if this program can save and edit SGF files?

^^

@Tester: This is a first release, so many works still remain ;) If you don't know how to play, have a look here : http://playgo.to/interactive/ @Nano: there is no SGF file support for the moment ... (next release may be). Zx
