Possibly unnoticed POPS changes in 3.10 and 3.11

POPS changes - Image 1 POPS changes - Image 2

There's a lot of ruckus lately surrounding the homebrew scene and the latest firmwares released by Sony. When you think about it, it's kind of hard to separate 3.10 from 3.11 as there are only minor differences.  Even Dark_AleX mentioned, allegedly, that he will not be coming up with a new custom firmware because it will prove to be more cumbersome to all of us.

Moreover, DAX said that he might just come up with a plugin to launch all POPS for 3.11 because those are only the real changes between the two firmwares. Now, we received a tip from one of our readers, Synthetic Chaos, about these changes. It really is helpful because these were not included in the official change log of 3.10 or 3.11.

Also, Synthetic Chaos reminds us that "in 3.11 there is now a [Reset Game] feature in POPS."

On a related note, to those of you who didn't quite pay attention to the POPS settings for 3.10, here are the changes as compiled by Synthetic Chaos:
  • Added [Assign Controller Ports]
  • Added A "Zoom" Screen Mode
  • Added [Black Level Adjustment]
  • Added [Volume Adjustment]
  • Added Support For PAL Games

Update: So sorry. In the rush to get this article up, a slip-up in the first paragraph got through. It originally said "he [Dark_Alex] will not be coming up with a new downgrader" in the first paragraph. Yes, this is incorrect and will confuse newbies. You'll note it's been corrected to read "he will not be coming up with a new custom firmware."

Thank you so much to all of you for quickly commenting on this! It was the speed and number of your comments that brought this article to our attention so we could fix it right away.

» OE.. not downgrader

Ryan, you may want to stop referring to a downgrader. OE custom firmware has nothing to do with downgrading and your references to downgrading can only lead to confusion among easily impressionable newbies.

There is no known exploit above 3.03; therefore, there never has been the slightest indication of a downgrader for 3.10/3.11 being possible so far.

Also, as others have stated, these settings are all found in 3.10.

by anon - 2007-02-10 05:20
» Not quite true

Actually these settings are already in 3.10 OE-A. I just recently used the controller port function to beat Mantis in Metal Gear Solid. Though My gave freezes a little ways after seeing Liquid in the chopper:-( A few other games that I have converted for myself still do not work completely ie LAPD Futurecop singlplayer campaign.

How does Ryan get to post news when he has no idea what he is talking about? This is the second time he referenced a downgrader where he should have been talking about OE? How much of a noob do you have to be to get on QJ's staff?

» Quick Correction

The article/screenshots are showing the additions from 3.10, but now in the 3.11 they have added a [Reset Game] feature to POPS. I was not able to get a screenshot of that because I do not want to lose my custom firmware. I submitted this a while ago and now it is finally posted. I know it is late now but am glad it was posted.

I hope this clears a few things up.

Like my name says .... everyone knew about this for about a week now. You must think we're all idiots if we couldnt noticed the changes by ourselves. This is ridiculous, how bout qjnet staff screen the posts before allowing them to be placed with false information. When I first joined the homebrew scene I though this site was like the NY Times when it came to the PSP. Now you guys are looking more like the National Enquirer or Teen Beat because of the info recently being posted.

i hope when dracula X chronicles comes out they'll fix the glitches in SOTN when you transform and also fix the slow battle intro in FF7 but the best upgrade to pops would be unclipped fullscreen those tiny clips on top and bottom are so annoying

I could because of the expand support for POPS. However maybe not. We just have to wait on DAX for any type of update.

What SOTN transform glitch are you talking about? I just went and beat it like old times, 200.6% and no transform glitches, other than the ones that have existed forever like transform to bat the instant you grab a life/heart up/drac relic.

Or be a wolf, grab said item and turn bat. But those were in all the versions if im not mistaken.

by databoy2k - 2007-02-10 09:17
» I Like That!

That's a really great idea on Sony's part! Can't wait for that feature to make it into the OE.

As for the other stuff, I actually WISH QJ would have announced those features sooner. I'm still not sure why one would wish to change controller ports, but the black-level balance was nice once I found out about it. Quit razzing on Ryan for announcing features that people already know about, because not EVERYBODY has started using them already.

» Flash replace

Well I decrypted 3.11, and took the pops.prx and slide it into my 3.03oe c, and i got the old 80000004 error.

Guess not.

Prolly need to replace a handful more for it to work properly.

» MGS to PSP?

I think the "assign controller ports" feature will be used for MGS when they release it for download, most likely soon. I wouldn't know if it is the right feature I'm thinking of, but if it is, yay my intelligence, lol.

totally, but then they only moderate and get rid of messages ppl dont want to c but since theirs lots of different posts, i can see y, seeing how we are all only human not everything goes through like it should but still they do like putting small things up, like screenshots of games that majority of people have already played but then i been through the internet on psp sites and i would have to say that even though it has small non important things its still the best out their

I want it so badly now... It's practically impossible to beat that pyschic s***.

Or maybe there's a ppf for metal gear solid that I don't know about. If anyone knows a patch that means I don't have to swap controllers, I'd like it.

Buddy, THERE IS NO 3.10 OE-A. Doing things like this is likely to confuse all noobs to the PSP homebrew front. So please Snake. Don't say we want 3.11, because the highest they ever got to is 3.03 OE-A.

sony has made a very challenging firmware, and it has been proven that no1 is good enough to crack a downgrader in this version. regret is the final thing you could do or you could buy yourself some UMD games & videos. sorry man.
