PSP homebrew developer Jaime Peñalba dropped us a line earlier here at QJ.NET to announce that he's releasing a new version of OpenTTD for play. OpenTTD, for those asking is an open source port version of Chris Sawyer's Transport Tycoon Deluxe PC game (circa 1994). Jaime is specifically responsible for developing OpenTTD's PSP port.

OpenTTD v0.5.2 has been successfully tested on 1.50, 3.XX OE, and M33 firmwares and carries these latest fixes since its previous release:
  • Opent TTD logo - Image 1 Code updated to 0.5.2 to be able to play on latest online servers
  • Game crash when suspending fixed
  • Native PSP sound effects driver developed instead of using SDL_mixer
  • Fixed sound & music mixer volumes
  • Sound effects speedup bug fixed
  • Replace trains window resized to fit psp screen
  • Extra viewport window resized to fit psp screen
  • PSP dedicated server upgraded to 0.5.2
Jaime reminds would-be users you will need to install certain files from the original TTD PC game to run OpenTTD v0.5.2. Guys interested in more information are advised to check out the file bundle's readme for installation and usage instructions and Jaime's contact details. Also make sure to keep an eye out for v0.5.3, which is expected to come out soon.

Thumbs up! Way up! I hope this doesn't get buried between the OE Firmware (leaked or not leaked, released or not released) stuff. This is some real great work on a port. Thanks Jaime Peñalba for your work.

» doesn't work on 3.40OE

>OpenTTD v0.5.2 has been successfully tested on 1.50, 3.XX OE,

I unsuccessfully tested it on 3.40OE.

What the author probably meant to say was: "successfully tested on 3.40OE running under 1.5"

I really hope someone would do a OE compatible port of this great game... Luckily scummvm works on 3.40 too!

Firstly, it would work online with more modern encryption offered only by newer versions, and last but not least, would work safely on >4GB memory cards. (much 1.5 homebrew has serious problems, if the data files happen to be after 4GB limit)

But of course the game itself is good! Just got to hope there won't be problems...

I agree...this is great stuff...if it is overshadowed by the stupid firmwares that are constantly released..and bumped by the same ppl who dont care about what the firmware is capable of(Playing games like this) butare more interested in owning the firmware for the sake of being able to say they own it. it will be a shame!
