More info and video on the "magical memstick and battery" for the PSP

Ó

If some of you are still wondering if the "magical memory stick and special battery" for the PSP is true or not, well, the video clip below will keep you guessing some more. It shows a guy (okay, a hand) downgrading a PlayStation Portable unit from firmware 3.50 to 2.71.

Just like the earlier video we shared with you, this one seems to originate from China as well. And again, just like the first video, it seems that these folks are not so keen on sharing their secrets as a good deal of effort was spent to hide the memory stick and the battery from view.

Based from a rough translation, we learned that this magical memory stick is able to do its trick because it's acting like a bootable disc for the PSP. The previously mentioned third pin in the battery will prevent the unit from reading any firmware data and redirect it to the memory stick. This, then, puts the PSP in a state known as "Factory Mode".

If you are wondering why firmware 2.71, take note that this is the lowest fimrware that motherboard TA-086 supports. Despite the fact that the PSP has been placed under "Factory Mode", it is still running on an un-patched motherboard.

Is it already known whether there is any special kind of signal (serial data) put on that 3rd pin, or whether that could be made with any piece of wire?

This video is unconvincing, this doesnt prove that it works, although it could lead to it. What i want to see, is how the LCD on the Jigkick battery works and what are the buttons for. Other then that i want to see close up to the screen and be able to read the text thats there... if so many people claim this to be true, THEN WHY ISNT THERE ANY SOLID PROOF

If you notice, we never actually see the guy put the memory stick in, the guys arm is always covering it in camera shot. Plus if they were showing it off you'd think they would bring the said items closer to the camera to show it off so we know it won't be fake.

That's so stupid. It's gotta be fake. First off in the beginning of the vid it never shows the PSP actually having 3.50 on it. You cant see a thing on the screen. The PSP probably had 2.71 on it the whole time and thats why the noob left the PSP at a far angle with the screen reflecting everything, not to mention the hiding of the amazingly stock looking battery and mem stick.

You name drop Dark_Alex, and admit to using his downgrader, yet you won't release these "files" or info on the "magic battery"? Hypocritical Chinese *****s. If you're going to use freeware that is enabling you to downgrade, release the rest of it so the rest of the scene can do something with it. -_-

This is either an attempt to put off people that's studying the files from the so called "Magic un-bricker files" that's been leaked or a BAD (or should I say CHEAP) way of fooling people that this thing actually exist.

In my honest opinion, I think that this whole thing is just a FAKE. And if it is real. Why on earth would it be so classified to the rest of the world.

Let me put it this way. IF THE CHINESE *DOES HAVE THIS TECHNOLOGY, IM 1,000,000,000% SURE THAT SOME MONEY GREEDY STOOGE WOULD'VED NICKED IT AND SOLD IT TO SOMEBODY. As everything else that carries the words "made in china" has.

Plus I AM MORE than content to the recent release of FANJITA's crew (+w/ DA, booster, Mal, etc...) of the NEW FW1.50-3.50 to 1.50 Downgrader.

It's this kind of BREAK THROUGH that EXITES the world/community. Not a whole bunch of cheap RETARTED vids that prooves nothing but BS or lame theories that makes the vounrible ppls that require/interested (educational porp, etc..) hope that this thing does exist.

The bottom line is, IF IT IS TRUE, THEN SHOW IT AND RELEASE THE SCHEMATICS OF THE HARDWARE. There's nothing to loose. If it does exist. I'm certain that it's only a matter of time it would be release.

IF NOT, Then I'm sure the whole world would appeciate it if this kind of nonesense would end.

In my studies/experience with the files. It is nothing but a hoax. 1 or perhaps 2 of the files are GENUINE. And IM SURE MANY MORE that have taken the liberty of examining the files would agree with me that they are trash that is poorly compiled and executed. And those files are USELESS unless your willing to unscramble the encryption thats been put on. Which even if you do manage to, it would be futile due to it would have been intentionally written to work PROPERLY with its companion "jigkick" hw.

So if anybody out there is STILL not convinced that this is USELESS. Then as yourself this. WHAT POSSIBLE reason would this have to YOU (besides selfish or absurd)?

Even if it is REAL, how long do you think something like this would stay secret and it would be a joke to think if you or others would even contemplate that this would bring financial compensation.

I rest my case...

No... Chinese are >.< (jk) :D

No offense but Chinese are a money driven society.

Almost all of their natural/technological/etc resource have been sold to the world.

If Chinese are smart then I think it would've been smarter to release a video that actually shows how this thing works, not another web of lie that makes poor people think their broken psp has any hope (besides SONY itself).

btw, all countries have repair/mod services.

I've been to HK, it was nice. But most materialistic items were either a replica or a dangerously under budgeted of poor materials that compiled the end product.

I would just like to point out that I'm Asian too, but like any other person. It is my opinion that Chinese has never held back anything (technological) to the world. So why start with this little battery?

PS: ASIA ROCKS!

btw, my girlfriend is Chinese and she totally agrees with me.

# I tried testing the third pin.Guest 2007-06-27 17:25
I just tried testing the third pin and got nothing. I put the supposed leaked files on my memory stick. Switched the positive connection of a normal battery with the connection to the third pin, and got nothing. I plugged the charger in and the red light just blinked. I was able to turn the psp on with the charger in but no combination of buttons would give me this "factory mode"

I reset the battery back to normal and it functioned correctly again.

I'm not sure if I messed something up, or if somethign else should of been done, but from what I did I got no results.

EVERY STOCK BATTERY CONNECTS TO EVERY FREAKIN PIN!!!!

Take a closer look at your battery and you will realize that it will connect to all three. Plus, how the hell did they know? last i heard is that they got it from sony. WHY THE HELL WOULD SONY GIVE THEM SOMETHING THAT WILL DOWNGRADE?! ESPECIALLY TO A FIRMWARE THAT ALLOWS A CF AND DOWNGRADES?!

The battery doesn't appear to connect ot every pin. from the outside it may appear so, but if you open it up a connection only seems to be made with the two outer pins. the third one is there for something, but not for powering it.

And besides common sense would show only two connections need ot be made. one positive one negative. what could the third conenction be? neutral?

don't think so.

so please. just don't comment on stuff your oblivious to.

1=why the hell those the battery has like 4 buttons?

if they never press one on the "Downgrading videos"...

2=why is the LCD on the battery if they never flipped the PSP

to c the battery LCD for some sort of menu or stuff,

and they always place the battery for like 3 seconds to turn the PSP on and then they get it off.

All of u believers has been fooled (china style).

if this is true that there is a circuit board within the battery the 3rd pin needs to be jumped, im guessing to the positive terminal, i think that will turn the chip on and allow a dealermode setting.....

as far as the memcard seems that its just like anyother update.....i dont have my psp with me but if guessing you would put the update.pbp file in your games folder...or on the root of the memcard.....

if you read http://forums.qj.net/showpost.php?p=1632432=postcount=1

it will tell you that updating with the memcard is like downgrading / upgrading firmware....so it has to be similar to a regular firmware upgrade thats legit from sony.

ill fiddle with it when i get home.

You can see the cut after he puts the "magical" battery inside. In all videos I have seen till today they are always showing the psp and its front. A normal guy would turn the psp around (so that you can see the back) when he wants to change the battery pack.

So why doesn't he just show the battery pack ?

It is a fake like every time. You have to get rid of this stupid idea of a battery downgrader. Just a rumor that spreads quickly over the internet.

# Couple of thingsGuest 2007-06-28 04:01
First of all, a memory stick is definately being placed in the PSP, then the PSP is turned off by pulling the power cord (because there's no battery in it to begin with and it's easier to pull the cord then hold the fraking power button up). Then a battery is placed in and the PSP boots to factory mode. Here's the kicker though and it happens in the other video as well. The battery looks like a normal PSP battery (at first I thought it was thicker from the other video, but in this one you can see the sticker on the back and it looks like a regular one). Something else that doesn't seem right is they always cover the left part of the PSP while the battery is inserted and then ejected and the guy's hand is not in a good place to offer the best grab on the PSP for leverage while inserting the battery. Here's what I think. It's very possible that there's some kind of connection (either something what was built/figured out/bought/whatever) that's made at the headphone/controller jack. Then a regular battery is inserted and boom... factory mode. Sure, we'd all like to think there's a special battery out there, but that would mean Sony would have to manufacture more stuff for all it's support staff. It would have been easier and more design sensative to build in a system of "connections" that must be made in order to force the PSP into a factory mode of some kind. It's a "step process", not a "special hardware needs" process. Something to ponder. Remember that PSPs have been taken apart for a long time. If someone actually took the time to reverse engineer some of the electronic layouts of the system they could have figured out such a simple process. There's really no reason to hide the left side of the PSP while it's starting up unless there's something physically there they don't want you to see. The screen is nothing to hide, all they have to do is film it from further away or at an angle and you can't make out ***** on the screen, so that's not it. Trust me, there's something up with the left hand side, and it's not the memory compartment either, we know he's putting in a mem stick because you can see his hand movements in BOTH videos doing this... no big secret there. The firmware has to be read from somewhere.

I went to a Gucci place in hk and say the sticker price and asked myself " do I really want to spend a months worth of pay check on a pair of shoes?"

So I contemplated about it some more out side and realize that across the street was some povo looking shop that carried the same pair of shoes with the brand 'Gucci' embedded on it's tag. So I imediately realize that this was a replica of the genuine thing.

I then compared the price and as many out there would know, it was almost unimaginable. the RRP price for the real deal was close to $16,000 USD and the replicas price tag was $150 USD.

At this point I'll let your imagination take place on what the final choice I made. :D

It would make SOME sense if something like this were real. I mean you think about MP3 players, most of the good ones that I know of have a recovery mode, and PSP didn't have any way to unbrick until DAX added recovery mode himself, which didn't make alot of sense. Sony HAD to put one on the PSP I just don't see why they'd leave a device like this without recovery/factory mode.

Speaking of MP3 players, want to help me get one? Mine broke. Do by your own will I won't ask anyone specific to do it, nor expect anyone to so don't flame me just getting the link around.

# In my own research...Guest 2007-07-01 04:23
My father works for Sony and I asked him if such device exist, he confirms to me that Sony will never develop such a thing, he stresses out how when damaged goods (whether it be gaming, audio systems, media's, media players, etc...) comes back to their warehouses, they simply recycle the whole thing (after it goes through the 'repair' devision which they usually conduct a visual assestement on it's damage(s) and then quickly attempt to repair it using tools they have available *no Jigkick. Which at this point if the product is still faulty or irrepairable they just dispatched it towards certain warehouses), because at that point it is pointless diagnosing then troubleshooting -repairing the product. It is in this same manner that most major industries such as Mitsubishi, Dell, IBM, etc... conduct their damaged goods.

He also pointed out that Sony board members will never agree/approve a universal repair device such as this "Jigkick" in mention. This is simply due to that the PSP Unit has no critical or highly classified technological parts that would validate it to have it's own 'highly classified repair system'.

And the only thing he mentioned that Sony is strictly concealing to the public when it comes toward the PSP Devision that he was aware of is it's software developments, which includes the Firmware and it's source codes and others he to mentioned but I failed to understand. (Unless it's a new hardware/software design of course)

But there is a repair side of Sony of course, but it is solely based on research and studies on how Sony products faults so they can improve on it on future designs/releases.

I was also told that when the fist 100 or 200 cases of faulty firmware cases they received was dealt with utmost urgency, and enough studies were conducted on how it ended to be it's formal condition. But nothing major was done to resolve the damaged goods, besides the process I mention above and recycling if all attempts fails. Sony project managers thought it would've been more effective if they focus on the software restrictions (hence the firmware updates) rather than them receiving countless of damaged PSP Units if they were to discover and come up with a recovery system and announce it publicly. Not to mention that project would need major funding and a whole new team(s) of developers, engineers, electricians, etc... Which at that time Sony had no time, let alone funds available at that department to fund such projects.

So they did the most logical course of action and ignored damaged PSP Units and simply placed a system where if you were to be involved/practiced Custom Firmwares and all it's relations, they will simply either charge you much more for repair/replacement or in the worst case scenario, you just don't get squat (which Sony recently course of action was a warranty update and made part of their legal agreement that users of Custom Firmware and all it's relations will not be covered by their warranty policy act. Sony's way of pointing the finger on you and saying "Serves you right!").

Which in my honest opinion is just brilliant!

Even though I'm convinced that this 'Jigkick' doesn't exist. The whole idea and imagination of it's concept intrigues and interest me.

Like what my father said "Imagine you were a CO of Sony LTD, while in your weekly meetings with your top managers and engineer + administrators. Someone had pitched the idea that this device should be produced/made. What would you reply? (bear in mind the implications it would bring in the long run)"

Keeping in mind those above said, if there is someone or somebody that does posses such device(s), it would have not come from Sony. It would've been privately developed and funded.

That's assuming it exist in the first place.

If it doesn't, I just wish more ideas like this one should be brought to life, not just in forums and such. An idea like this would bring an unlimited revenue of financial aid to it's discoverer(s).

Not to mention monopolize and cripple on Sony's repair devision. (but my father would be pis

Han, YOU GOT OWN3D BY MOKE PUNK! LOLZ!

That's what you get for sticking your nose without making a point about the main topic.

Why are you so pissed on Moke's comments anyway? He has a valid point!

C'mon, look at yourself for one, as soon as you hear/read someone has said that China made products that are cheap and low quality you get all defensive. But when you really think about it, IT'S TRUE.

And I do agree with Moke that if some Chinese has got this special battery he would've auctioned/bid it already to make profit.

And if I was told, I'll be a part of that and be trying hard to own that piece of bl33p!* as hard as you got owned by Moke. LOLZ!!!!
