iR Shell for CFW 3.80 M33 soon, Ahman to retire from scene? |
Ó
Hoping to get some iR Shell loving for your PlayStation Portable? Stonecut over at the iR Shell forums has sent out word that Ahman is developing a new version of the application, and that it should out very soon. At the moment, it appears to be in the beta test phase. Stonecut wasn't too keen on details, but stated that this latest release will now carry full support for Dark AleX's custom PSP firmware 3.80 M33.
Unfortunately, this release also appears to be Ahman's finale - Stonecut also explained that after releasing the new build, the developer will be leaving the PSP homebrew scene for good.
That's all the information we have at the moment. We advise you guys to keep an eye on QJ for any related updates - the release should be available within the next few days.
Thanks to SBrown for informing us of this big news!

ahman's bailing out... :(
Hopefully Ahman will be kind enough to release source if he is leaving for good...! Been waiting for IRShell support to move to 3.8 CFW!
Ahhman hes bailing but we need IRSHELL.
its not a surprise hes leaving, when support for 3.71 came out it seemed he lost interest with his project. but yeah i hope he releases the source codes or something. atleast stone and all the admins at irshell.org is gonna get some relief for when is and why doesnt ir work.
Dark Alex Said he would quit a long time ago. Will that stop AhMan who said the IRSHELL for 2.71 was his last release? Well I don't believe it. People will always cover if anything happens to the great developer
After talking with Ahman in the private forums, Ahman is not certain when he will get to making the last public release. It is certain however that he is no longer developing iRShell and there will be very few updates for anyone in the future with no major updates. Its really about that time in most of our opinions (supporters and developers), Ahman deserves his retirement. Don't be too upset if another public release doesn't come for another month or longer. If you didn't donate in the YEARS he has been creating the best homebrew ever made for the PSP, I suppose you never will. This is just a clarification that a public release has not been planned by Ahman yet and he has specifically stated that he is not sure when it will be prepared.
I searched your site and google for a link I could use to donate, I didn't find one, maybe I didn't look hard enough. Maybe this site can make it easier for us to donate by posting a link. I like IR Shell, I got it to work with my PC, but I would have loved to get it working with my Asus WL-HDD or Linksys NSLU2. I would have donated even more. Instead I hope the $10 I would like to donate demonstrates my appreciation for Ahman's hard work. It would be great if the USBHOSTSFS and NETHOSTFS could be added to a CFW, (It's nice to dream.) Again, Thanks for the hard work, Ahman.
We're familiar with this game. People like this don't feel appreciated because they are always available, so what better way to stroke themselves by injecting some unavailability into the mix? It amounts to ego masturbation when someone says they'll "quit", only to return a week later with a Paypal account full of donations and a newly propped up self-esteem from all the regrets people express over their leaving. -
He should just release the source code already and quit for real. This is what, the fifth time he quit?
Maybe we need a wake-up-call to appreciate them.
What does the iR Shell do? what features does it add to the psp? ive never used it b4
no, it sounds like ahmen is gone for good. head over to irshell.org, and look through the forums. From the sounds of it, ahmen is in the beta phase, and the firmware should be out in a few days, however it does not look like ahmen ever intended to do a 3.8 adaption, but decided to anyway. From everything that I have read the only really changes are specific to code used between 3.71 and 3.8, stonecut says in the forum, that it will also probably remove the firmware version checker, however, stonecut said point blank that the source would not be released, and not to ask, and the ahmen would be retiring for GOOD. maybe 4.0 cfw will fail with ni iRshell support, what a shame, but at the same time, I think under the limitations of the psp, that iRshell has already reached it's full potential. If you want to get upset about the incompatibility issues, get upset for whoever leaked DAX's code, because the NIDS probably would not have changed if it hadn't leaked :( iRshell works near perfectly and it's unreasonable to expect a developer to continue on something that already works just fine, ahmen doesn't upgrade your firmware for you, so don't blame him, just be prepared to stay on 3.8 for a while, until some predecessor takes his place, iRshell is not the only psp portal, it's just the best, and eventually something will replace it.
i hope he comes back and does a major update every now and then (just like he is now...lol) 'cause i thought he "retired" a long time ago....
Making a scene with "retirement" AND deciding not to release the source? Screw them, then. I think I even like the Daedalus developer more... and I HATE Daedalus!
There's usually a donation link in the release threads, such as: http://irshell.org/showthread.php?tid+699 (bottom of OP)
URL is b0rked. Replace the '+' with '+' or just check out the 3.8 release thread.
The second '+' was an equals sign. I hate this message board software.
Check out "Why iR Shell?" on the wiki (http://www.irshell.org/wikishell/). The list is missing a few recent additions (remotejoy, adhoc PSX, ...).
I would say that he is not making a scene, at least this time. I've been a beta tester for years now. He will not be releasing another public release after this for the PSP IMO. It took some talking to get him to update previously out of retirement because of the custom firmwares and the extra features he had managed to add. He may make one or two compatibility fixes for those who are members of his private forum in the future, but honest to god, it would be a mistake to think he is only making a scene. I don't think he cares as much if PSP users like him, its more of an ego downer doing favors for the general community these days. He's a grown man, the only ones he has favored in the past is the ones who showed him the generosity or appreciation that he has showed you. It would be extremely generous to do that now, but don't think that it will change much about the public releases. Accept that he is going, be happy that there is little more you could ask for, he really did give it all. Throw a party instead. I bet he will release the source code one day, but he is likely keeping it to stop his code from being used inappropriately (happened in the past with the universal loader) or to port it to another device.
or maybe he just a life to live ? ...
