Exophase dropped by our forums to inform us that he has released a new iteration of his famous GBA emulator, gpSP. gpSP is the best GBA emulator released for the PSP with great compatibility and performance. Exophase has gained instant respect and love from the scene for his emulator. As a result, everyone has been asking when the next release is. However, Exophase would like to ask everyone to stop asking him when the next release will be. Well, we're proud to say that v0.8 has been released just a few minutes ago!
With this newest version of gpSP, there's the added ability to use save states that even allows you to map the save/load to a few buttons of your choice. The numerous number of fixes and additions can be viewed below:
- Fixed bug in dead flag elimination, "alt" version no longer needed.
- Fixed EEPROM saves being saved as 32kb instead of 512bytes/8kb
- 32MB ROM support has been added. ROMS are "demand loaded" as necessary and page swapped out; there might be a small loading lag, but I have yet to ever really notice anything.
- NOTE: 32MB ROM support only works for unzipped ROMs.
- Save states have been added. See the save state menu for save/load options.
- Support for the real-time clock (RTC) chip in Pokemon cartridegs and other games. The implementation is based off of VBA's, whatever notes on gbadev I could find, and some of my own reverse engineering of what the games do... it might not be totally correct. Also, setting the time does not work.
- Per-game configuration. Currently this only saves frameskip and frameskip variation options.
- Removed the flash type option from the menu and instead added it to game_config.txt. Hopefully got everything - let me know if you find something that isn't there. It's pretty easy to add them if you have to.
- Added a display in the upper left-hand corner to indicate when fast-forward is on.
- Added button bindings for save/load state.
- Found a fix of StrmnNrmn proportion: far too much unnecessary mutex synchronization was going on. Removing the two offending lines of code gave a massive speed boost for free. Enjoy.

Sweet, lots of good stuff in this release! (32mb rom support, rtc support, savestates, speed increase!!) great work! @2 upgrade to 2.71 and it should work with HEN. Or, if you're not a TA-082, downgrade to 1.5 (and then if you want upgrade to the 2.71 SE-A) and run it.
I've been waiting for 32 MB ROM support. And a couple days before I go on a trip too. =D

OMFG!!!!! KINGDOM HEARTS: CHAIN OF MEMORIES WORKS!!....but it freezes 2 seconds into the opening movie =[...but it's getting there! And MMBN6 works! No more blocky sprites and battles load and you can now go into different areas!

no difference in this release still same save bug where upon saving the sound just turns into a high pitched whine - this is for super mario bros super mario advance 2

I need to know how to get a 128kb rom to run. Pokemon emerald requires this. If anyone know how to change to rom type please tell me, or im going to have to go back to v.07

@19, u dont need to, just load that game up and it will work, well atleast i got it to work, that option isnt needed, but if that doesnt work, then open up the game_config.txt and find Emerald and then change all the flash_rom_type to 128kb and then save and load it up again.

This is one of the best emulators out there! Kingdom Hearts crashes a couple seconds into the intro movie but this is still a great emulator! Thank you!

@15: It is illegal to provide that file to you, and if it was provided for you in the emulator package, Exophase would be in a lot of trouble, and probably be hit with legal problems...meaning no more gpsp versions...

PLEASE READ! It says it right in the article as well as in the ReadMe: "Removed the flash type option from the menu and instead added it to game_config.txt. And Pokemon Emerald DOES NOT NEED 128k saves, only Fire Red and Leaf Green do.

Great job with this new release! Riviera loads ( with sound problems) but then crashes when you try to start the game... to bad .. However, almost getting there.. Keep up the great work.
alright... so, throwing my stupidity in the ring (again). I have been having speed issues with this emu as well as others (snes, dgen). My NES and SMS/SGG emus work fine with no speed problems. What am I doing wrong? I have to take another look at the SNES emu readme info because there are like 5 different ways to speed up the emulator, I just haven't had time. Anyways, if anyone could give me a pointer it'd be appreciated. Thanks!

When I try to run this with Hen revision C, It gives me an error and brings me back to the game directory of the psp. I suppose I'll have to downgrade to 1.5 and install that SE-A thing =(. I'm having issue getting Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship 2006, and Duel Academy, working. There's no entry in the game_config.txt file for either game, so I'm sure if they can just be set to 128kb flash or w/e, like Pokemon Emerald needed, then they'd work. If someone can help with that, I would be direly appreciative. MMBN is finally working :D Ah, memories... Finally, Medabots still isn't working, at least for me. It crashes as soon as you leave the lab (Medabots 2, Metabee version). I think it's another issue of setting to 128kb flash. Basically, my issue stems from not knowing how to work that .txt file. This is jsut awesome. gpSP is my favourite homebrew application and you just made it better. I do have one suggestion though. Try enable Gameshark, Pro Action Replay, Game Geniue ect. Then it would be absolutley freaking awesome !

KH2 works, mine crashed at the intro as well first, the second time i tried it the CG movie got a little messed up but it played fine, finished the first level already, works full speed with near perfect sound. Amazing work Exophase thank you very very much.
Hello to everyone and thanks Exophase for this. I am very new to the scene and would appreciate some help. I need to know how to use seipsptool. I think you use this program to make the bios work but I dont know the steps i need to take. If someone can please post the steps on what to do to make this homebrew work starting from installation it could cut down on us noobs asking questions and bothering the veterans. anyone mind helping me out... i just upgraded from v0.7 and the emulator runs but when i try to run a game, just a blue screen... anyone know whats going on?? i usually dont have any problems with this stuff... but im not sure whats going on here

This is the reason I WILL NOT upgrade past fw2.6! Excellent job now I an play all the 32mb games that I could not do before. Sony if you are reading this you need to stop blocking FW versions with your updates cause even though there is sims 2 pets, raw vs samackdown 2007 and gta vice coming out very soon I will not jeapordize losing my gpsp!! Yes it works on version 2.6 and only eloader upto version 98

What are you talking about? 2.6 is outdated for homebrew really, and really for using just GTA for it... But yeah, its nice, And Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories works, but only the Europe version, for some reason, ah well, I'm not gonna complain.
any one know were i could get a pokemon dungeon version that loads, or just tell me what to do. i put the regular zip file on my roms folder, do i have to do something else?
ok, i tried eLoader versison .99/.97 using gta and .98 using the photo version, running 2.6. On all the different eloaders, i start the emulator and select a game, but as soon as i click it, it just shows a blue screen... no loading... no freezing... its weird. First emulator i had problems with, and gpsp v.7 worked fine for me.... any comments??
With pokemon dungeon, it MUST BE UNZIPED. this version of gpSP supports 32MB roms but they have to be unziped and not ziped up.
Oh and Pokemon Dungeon Red runs perfect. no gfx flaws, no lag, sound is great. just unzip the gba rom file. place in roms folder. play with no chaging of settings, accept screen size if you want.
What is the REAL gba_bios ? How can you tell?? Where can you get it? I tried 4 different site but RIVIERA DOES NOT WORK. I repeat, RIVIERA DOES NOT WORK. Exophase himself said to use the real bios. I'm confuse...
You're a genius... Everyone thought fullspeed gba was impossible but then you come out of no where and make them all look like a bunch of pessimistic liars. I love that! After a test of the new version I've found the save bug someone mentioned before for mario advanced 2 is happening on my psp also. Thanks for doing this for us. i'll bake you a psp cake and send it to you exophase.

golden sun 2 crashes after about 1 min of play and the sound isnt good but golden sun 1 works just fine with full speed Thanks for this great release (i hope they fix gs2 in the next release:P)
Now all that I want is a full speed, frame skip like the latest VBA Emulator for the PC has.
Everything I've tried so far has worked at great speed. By far one of the best emulators available. Great job Exophase. Love being able to play DD on the go on the bigger screen.

This works with my 2.71 with the HEN C from Dark-AleX. Also i've tried Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and it works perfect. On a side note my motherboard is the bad one.
In mario vs Donkey Kong the speed works great. But at the end of level 2 (the mini mario stage) they won't jump on the spring. Has anybody played this and figured out why it won't let me past here?

yeah I read the part abotu the READ me BUT when i scrolled down to the game that not workin, such as Mario ADV 4 (U)... i see no flash type text of whatever! Can sumone help?
I found it.... The one i downloaded was at PS2nfo.com, they messed around with the text and i didnt see any "flash_rom_type = 128KB" in it
Still crashes at the giant octorok boss fight in the temple of droplets.. you know, the icey temple where you get the lantern? So bummed... good thing i already beat this game like a million years ago XP Great Job!
Yea i Agree too with the Beating this game part ... Also in Minish Cap, i can't seem Roll too *sighs*, i hope exophase fix this problem, it would be great if he did, yes yes (nod head) and make this game work 100% without an crash or error. Oh! and Summon Night Swordcraft Story (U) has a problem when you reach your first tournament fight, has anyone have the same problem? i had this problem too and crashed while i fought him on the left side of the screen nowtry the right side for the complete battle and you should be fine.

just a suggestion, but in the next update or two or three, maybe ad-hoc multiplayer. idk, but this is just awesome. great speed and support. keep it up!

i still cant get it to run, i had to go back to .7 just because i cant figureout how to run a 128kb rom.
start the rom and keep pressing start untill the movie fhinish or reboot the game again and it works fine.
I never comment here, but this app just demands it. 06/07 was good and I was shocked to see because I was one of the people not believing it was possible. 08 with 32m support, more speed AND the abillity to save -- just amazing. Rock on Exophase. I love to be proved wrong.

just got the cos-bios pack, but all bios are in .rom format and I can't change it back to .bin form. Anyone know how to change or get the real bios somewhere?

I just beat the temple of droplets without any crashes at all...but did notice something weird when it's dark when you have to use the lanter..

Ok...my Zelda just crashed on the way to Veil Springs and it seem to mess up my .sav too but my state save seem to still work...anyone try beating the game without anything problem cause I can't seem to move on...guess I'll try another game till the next version is out ;))) thanks exophase...keep it up

I have allways herd that a gba emulator never can be fast enough to use... The vba (i think the omwbrow is called so) emulator sucks compared to this... has it got anything to do whit the bios file and that it's not legal? //apkungen
This game is still slow with the real bios (Finally, I was getting tired of checking MD5's and not matching up)... guess we'll have to wait unit next release.

Do you have any problems running fire emblem? I played it at first and it was fine ran great but then I noticed that whenever the turn phases started there'd be slowdown (and memorystick access,not sure if its cos I transfered everything to a bigger memory stick LOL) so I changed the option for updating the memory stick to on gsp exit and the rom runs great. I'm amazed at the amount of games that run on this most sound/speed issues can be resolved by changing the frameskip to 2 - and once again Riviera YAY!

I finally started using 0.8, and wow, what a difference! Great menus; simple, looks great and does what it needs to. A great improvement from the past versions! Also, save states...Simply amazed.

Kingdom Hearts work if you download the European version. The US version freezes when the intro movie starts. But still..the intro movie is very ugly, looks a bit glitchy, but Kingdom HEarts fully works:D
where can i get the euro version. is it any different from the US version? its in english right? and do you know anything about grand theft auto how i can get it to run at a decent speed on any emulator? thanks :-)

It only saves the first time you get to after the first dungeon. Would I have to use the savestate for the rest of the game or is there a way I can fix this?

I have a TA-082 with fw 2.71. The ONLY reason I upgraded was to get gpSP 0.7 (?)(luckily between HEN C and eloader 99 I can still run all my emus) my only problem is with gpSP 0.8, perhaps this is ignorance on my part.. 0.7 runs ok for me, i only want 0.8 because of save states and faster speed (like i saw on youtube) i play on break at work, so speed and instant-saves mean everything to me. Someone ? How exactly do I run gpSP 0.8 now?
umm, i found it where the other ppl said to get it and its the same size that it says when u try to load without it, but it wont work. i renamed it to gba_bios.bin and nothing happen. how do i get it to work

ok so i've tryed 38 thousand psp-gva... so far non has worked, could it be that im too stupid, or could it be that I GET !@#$ING FRUSTRATED EASILY!!!!... neways, i think im runing out of free space for so many downloading emus. many of them say "cannot load game, data corrupted" or something... then there are those that start with "tala" song and shows the "PSP Playstation Portable" screen, stops and says something is wrong and gives me this code number of the error... then i found a new one that seemed to almost look like it wanted to brick my PSP... for any info in how to help an idiot *points self* pleace help me, my FW is 2.60, and if anyone tells me that there is no vba-psp thingy machine then i would like to help on working one
thats bull*****. This *****er comes to a site that distributes emulators, and when a good gba emulator comes out, he doesnt want to release it with the GBA BIOS. You might as well give us the damn thing, since youve helped in distributing emulators. What a *****ing *****

...when's the next release? One of my ROMs keep crashing at a certain boss fight, and I was hoping a newer version would fix it. Said ROM also has save file issues; you have to try to save several times before it happens.
