Ó

GBAIt was only a really short while ago that we released the beta test (v0.5) of Exophase's gpSP GBA emulator for our beloved PSPs. The response since then is overwhelming! Many of you guys have tried gpSP out on some of your favorite games. Some games you've tried ran like a dream at full speed; others managed to get through with a few hitches. And there were some games that didn't load, or crashed while attempting to load.

Thanks to MonkeyBoy1916, Kyubi Naruto, SeikenZ, and all the helpful people at the comments and forum pages for the gpSP release/compatibility, we do have a rather long list of games that worked perfectly, games that worked (more or less), and games that so far didn't work when tried with the beta gpSP.

Please remember that both gpSP and this compatibility list are still a work in progress. And both need your help, the help of the PSP homebrew community. If there is a game you know that isn't on this list, give it a try on our own copy of gpSP and tell us the results! Tell us how the game ran on our PSP - how fast or slow (and at what points in the game), framerates/frameskips, sound issues, load/saves, the whole works! Detailed explanations will help the development process on this emulator.

Post your responses and suggestions in the release compatibility forum thread, or here at the comments page. We're sure Exophase will appreciate them.

Okay, what we did was post (unedited) the four lists we've collated from MonkeyBoy1916, Kyubi Naruto, SeikenZ, and from the comments page from the release coverage (thanks bled (unregistered) for sorting through the comments for us!) right here. It will be a really long list. There will be duplicate titles across the four lists, but we decided to keep them because:
  • there are cases when a game would work perfectly for one tester but would have a few hitches (or would crash) when tried by another tester (for example, Pokemon Emerald seems to have mixed results across testers);
  • some testers do give rather detailed comments, especially cases where a game would slow down or crash at certain points in the game; and
  • some comments do sound very interesting. Kyubi's little remark about needing CPR after seeing FFI/II run at full speed made us spill our drinks laughing!
Hopefully we at QJ will be able to sort through the list and produce a better-collated menu for the community. That will depend on the quality and helpfulness of responses you post here and the compatibility forum.

Oh, and MonkeyBoy, Kyubi, SeikenZ, and bled, we here at QJ can't ever thank you enough for your collations! You've certainly helped us (and Exophase) with what you've contributed!

# BEST WAY TO TEST GAMES!!!!!!Guest 2006-08-20 14:59
Hey I got some advice for noobs or those who have not thought about it yet.

This is the best way to run Gpsp especially if you are testing multiple games.

kxploit it then use irshell to run it with app loading confirmation turned off then to change the rom all you do is exit emu to irshell then run it again. This is much much quicker then going back to xmb and reloading emu with gameboot delay!!!

I don't know if this is really the solution or if it's a stroke of luck (only tried 2 times) but when you get to the Camelot logo, right away press and hold triangle and push Up 2 times (for a frameskip of 2) and it might work. Again, I only tried this 2 times only so I dunno.

Exo, this is really awesome. Big props. Almost brought a tear to my eye hearing the Golden Sun battle music again, almost at perfect sound. :')

Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland should work fine, but you MUST have game_config.txt in the same directory because you need the iwram_stack_opt imize value turned off. If it doesn't work the file might not have been copied there.

Pokemon Leafgreen works pretty good (Maybe 90% speed and good sound at frameskip 2).

Leafgreen also saved. At least my version did.

However, growl crashed it when I used the move.

It said my save was corrupted, but it still loaded it and I was exactly was where I had been.

However, even turning off battle animation crashed when growl was performed.

Also, you need game_config.txt for games like Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and Super Mario Advance to run well (and chances are some of the games on the list that run VERY slowly will run better once I find their idle loops and add them). It'd be great if someone could bold that somewhere (to make sure you include game_config.txt) in the thread.

# Compatibility Thread UpdatedSeikenZ 2006-08-21 12:03
I've stated in my compatibility thread that people should only try roms of 16mb, not larger. Also made clear that they need to have the game_config.txt in the same folder as their EBOOT.PBP (folder without the '''%'')

The list is now up-to-date as of 22/08/2006.

Thanks again for all the contribution to the thread! It's quite a list now!

# Well I thought I had it......KuffoMan_11 2006-08-21 13:04
I thought I had the flawless rom and then BOOM! That stupid Mother-F***ing blue screen is telling me that the damn game has crashed my f***ing PSP once again, jeez!

So now it's still screwing up right after exactly in the same spot, right after I kill those stupid devil demons right in the beginning, shyt!!!

Alright now I'm gonna have to attempt something, the only GBA game I actually care about is Golden Sun and if I wait another damn minute for GS to not crash I'm gonna launch my PSP across the room into fiery pit of hell of non-working GBA games that continue to chip away on my soul, yes it's that f***ing important.

I'm gonna use the source and try as hard as I can to fix the bug, even though I can barely code a respectable Pong game, I'm trying.

It would be great to have some support, thank-you

p.s: Exophase I'm not hating the emu, just the glitch.

Here's the GBA emu all ready for you. BIOS included and even a couple of games to get you started. All you gotta do is drag and drop the two folders into your memory stick's GAME folder and presto. (This package is only for 1.50 PSPs!!!)

Tried Super Robot Wars OG, OG2, and J. OG and OG2 works fine, just need some frameskip adjustments for OG2. Super Robot Wars J just crashes right on the spot with the blue screen.

# Golden SunGuest 2006-08-21 16:51
Hey, I posted yesterday that Golden Sun crashed at intro, I don't know what I was doing wrong but now I can load it, but it runs a bit choppy with sound errors. It crashes after the part where Saturos and Menardi hop away after beating the crap out of you.

I wonder if you could load the game in another GBA emu to get past the crashing point, and then continue in this emu. IE: Save in Zelda before getting the hyrule map, eek past it in another emu, save, and then reload in gpsp?

remember how I said I'd try many things to get golden sun to work, well now with the help of Boycott Advance I can save past the problem areas in the game, gpSP use th same save format so now I'm past the 2 guys that whoop you, YAY!!!

Just save in the game you choose

Rename the save according the rom name then

The save should work, I saved shortly after I got my azz whooped by the two devil dudes and now I'm past the crash point, YEEEEEEEEEEEEEE ESSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSS!!!!!!!!!!

# sound problems with emuGuest 2006-08-23 17:39
Has anyone else noticed that the sound can become out-of-sync with itself ? I was playing Sonic Advance 1. I got up to Ice Mountain Zone (Act 1) and the sound started to go out of sync. Like I know the tune but drums and stuff weren't playing at the correct time.

I only had one game to test. Can anyone else confirm if the sound does go out of sync in other games ?

I can confirm that there is a bug in the sound emulation. This time I played Sonic Pinball Party.

1. Congrades on compiling this awesome emulator !! Can't wait to see Megaman Zero 2 and DBZ:SSW at full speed !! ^_^

2. About Dragonball: Advanced Adventure, it works perfectly 96% of the time; however, when you get up to where he fires the Kamehameha for the first time and parts of the Pilaf stage, the graphics get a bit messy (still playable, but hard to see). Other then that, best of luck with future releases !! ^_^

Just tested River City Ransom EX and Super Puzzle Fighter.

Super Puzle Fighter:

Major sound and speed issues at frameskip 0-2. Not even playable. >_<

River City Ransom EX:

Works fine; however, could use some minor speed and sound touchup.

# Zone of the EndersGuest 2006-09-01 09:47
I just beat Zone of the Enders Fist of Mars using the 0.6 version of the emulator yesterday, worked great, but i recommend saving often, as it crashed randomly at parts in the game, a simple reboot usually lets u play through the part u crashed though. And a few times (maybe 3 times) it corrupted the entire emulator somehow, and would crash any game once u tried to press anything on the d-pad. Best of luck emulating, nice work on this emulator fellas.
