Fanjita retiring from PSP homebrew scene |
Listed in: Homebrew Development, News Tags: Fanjita, Noobz, psp homebrews
Ó
In a shocking development, PSP homebrew icon and pioneer Fanjita has announced his retirement over at his website Fanjita.org, citing trust issues as the main reason. While no specifics were mentioned, the famed developer did say that "the betrayal of trust that preceded the Pandora release was extremely hurtful." This, he says, left him to unable to fully trust the people he previously enjoyed working hard with.
"I'm tired of the continual pressure and idiocy of the PSP scene - long gone are the fun days of pioneering amongst like minds, in a mutually supportive and gentlemanly environment," he says.
"The Pandora Battery therefore marks my last major PSP project," says Fanjita. "I expect that Team C+D and Noobz will continue to release stuff without me, and I still hope to finish up some of the non-exploit projects that I'd been working on (Installotron, piKey etc.).
Fanjita says that the he will now concentrate on fatherhood as well as non-PSP projects that he wants to explore. We'll keep you updated for more developments on this topic.
Thanks to SooperGooman, Max, and Oriaj Zetroc for the tip!

it was a blow when D_A left, but this is so much more devestating. good look and god bless, i hope your child will bring you happines, as you will feel a place in your life filled by a son/daughter that could NEVER be filled by a psp or any games console for that matter.

You gave us much of what we currently have and man I wish I had your talent to do such things.
If the problem is Sony, then I understand. If the problem is stupid people and lack of trust, then I think you should remain in the scene, as by leaving, you might actually be doing what some people want you to do.
Of course I am also an interested part in not wanting you to leave, but I honestly feel such talent and such generosity you have proven to give should remain for those whom always been here and always have known to appreciate your work.
This sounds selfish, but that's what I really thing.
Anyways, thanks for all the hard work and superb things you have done and allowed us to enjoy.
Hope you reconsider ;)

I have to say at times I think Devs just come up with excuses for leaving when in all truth they are leaving simply because they have better things to do with their life, have become bored, uninterested, lost the addiction to the hacking. It would be refreshing to see a Dev leave saying ''Time to move on and spend more time on other things goodbye everyone''.
However there are always some kind of drama, whinging about others and basically creating more drama.

This sort of crap is one of the most distasteful aspects of the PSP scene."
I cannot code a ***** but I understand a lot of the functions around. So, my question here is that if I cannot do what PS3News did, like editing the firmwares and calling them my own, I should respect them? I really don't get your point. I have nothing against becus25 but I have not used his stuff so I cannot determine. But still, when you say that "Please don't disrespect any developer unless you've ever managed to produce anything of a similar level of achievement", and I cannot produce illegal copies of M33 software edited and calling it as my own, I should now respect them??? Oh come on!
Thanks for all you have done to the community, it would be already dead if it wasn't for you. Best regards, JaXeRiR

There will ALWAYS be someone with the skills and the hunger for the glory to step up to the plate.
Stop treating dev's like they're a finite resource. They're not.
Dev's are drawn to the CHALLENGE of reverse engineering and just because he's pissed off at some of the idiots in the scene, doesn't mean the challenge is gone. Either he will be back again later, or someone else will step in.
Once a dev, always a dev. There will ALWAYS be someone, somewhere who will appear and proove to you that "it CAN be done".
As long as the challenge is there, someone will step up to meet it. The be the first to beat the system. Patience is all that's required.

And they wither with the wind.
And then crumble in your hands."
For all things there comes a time when they must end. While selfishly I wish it didn't have to happen, I know there is no point in trying to talk you out of it. You probably need the change of scene anyways. I will always remember your contributions to the PsP homebrew scene.

My PSP still has that same wallpaper made as a thank you, when the 2.71 downgrader came out, all from that TIFF exploit.
Without you, I'd still be on an official firmware. But that's not the only thing, I'm still grateful for what you did to the rest of the PSP scene, and helping others with their PSP's.
You are truly the MVP of the PSP scene, and it's sad to see you go. All the stuff you've done for us, in the past and present, we are all grateful for.
Sorry to those who pestered/annoyed/abused your help and kindness, these type of people believe the world revolves around them. They think of themselves, rather than the hard work of the developers. I understand how it feels, though. I hope you don't take anything personally, of any comments directed towards you.
Of course, Qj always has a few trolls in the comments, but these are the type of people whom are ungrateful children. No attention should be drawn towards them. Also sorry to those who backstabbed you, which has got to be a pretty big blow. I wish you hadn't paid any attention to them, but obviously it's pretty hard not to.
So, thanks for all that you've done for the PSP scene. Without you, I wouldn't have what I got now. I owe all my PSP enjoyment to you, and many of the other developers. Hope you ignore all the ungrateful ones, they have nothing better to say.
It truly kills me to see you leave, but it was good while you were here. I know it probably doesn't mean much, but you got my respect, feelings, and awe, along with many other PSP users.
Goodluck with future achievements, we'll all miss you. Hope to see you around the forums, though. Even if you won't be developing anymore, it's always good to hear your opinion/thoughts, or anything you feel like saying.
Cheers, I wish you luck in life and with your family.

I hope you're at least a fairweathered fan of Lord of the Rings... because I'd like to make an analogy. You created the end all be all solution to everyone's problems with the PSP.
I sat and tried to think of something that could outshine this work, and I honestly couldn't come up with anything. You're a hero to our scene Fanjita. It makes me think of Frodo when he returned to the Shire in "Return of the King" there was nothing left to do... It was time to move on. You've made our world a better (and safer because of the impossibility of bricking) place. Sail on good fellow. We'll miss you. Know that you are a legend to this community. The thieves who exploit your opus for personal gain might make a few dollars, but anyone who has an inkling of a mind will know that you're the one who made it happen.
Thank you for your time, your persistence, and your genius.
Sincerely,
Scott

And it's all down to Fanjita! Thanks a lot, you won't believe what you've done to the PSP community. I still to this day help people with PSP hacking, and almost every time I recommend programmes or exploits, it's a Fanjita production. In my opinion, Fanjita is a far bigger man in the PSP community than D_A ever was. Honestly!

We have abandoned all development for FTB game and given all rights to the new Tactical Strike to Slant Six Games. As our concerns with hackers have vanished. No matter what we try to do there is nothing we can do, but continue banning people by searching for 3rd party software. Not a patch or nothing could solve this problem since the so called "Hacks" come from th memory of the UMD it's self. We would try punkbuster, only that would raise the PSP's ram more than needed. Only Sony could actually come up with a solution to block 3rd party software from their system. They have tried and we are amazed they have not given up hope on the PSP. We have been told that the PSP Slim or as most users are calling it the PSP2 that it will have some sort of official software that forces users to upgrade or they can have no online connectivity (Sort of like the PS3), but the system will not turn on until it has checked and verified the system information (3-4 seconds). If somehow a custom firmware does come out for it, Sony digs into the code of the custom firmware and finds a code that is not used in the official and searches for that code, if it contains that code it will require a format and re installation of the official firmware. Sony has tried to well many times to stop the custom firmwares, but each firmware they could add something to detect the 3rd party software and someone could just null it out. They went after Dark_Alex and succeeded. They can't go after M33 Team as they are from Russia and do not have any copy right laws there. So they gave M33 credit on there behalfs, but when they try to hack the PSP2 they will find a little present for them. We will continue developing the Socom Series on PS3 and maybe a few more on PS2

perhaps the betrayers on the team had good reasons to leak the information, perhaps not, not knowing everything it's not my place to speculate, however, I hope you dont become too dissuaded from the homebrew scene, whilst you've no doubt given up on the PSP scene, you have provided us with benchmark titles. Its because of people like you that the machine has survived as long as it has, and for that I, for one, am grateful.
Best of luck in fatherhood and your future projects... should you ever return I only hope the scene has matured to accommodate.
Thanks for everything.
