Fanjita retiring from PSP homebrew scene

Pandora Battery - Image 1In a shocking development, PSP homebrew icon and pioneer Fanjita has announced his retirement over at his website Fanjita.org, citing trust issues as the main reason.

While no specifics were mentioned, the famed developer did say that "the betrayal of trust that preceded the Pandora release was extremely hurtful." This, he says, left him to unable to fully trust the people he previously enjoyed working hard with.

"I'm tired of the continual pressure and idiocy of the PSP scene - long gone are the fun days of pioneering amongst like minds, in a mutually supportive and gentlemanly environment," he says.

"The Pandora Battery therefore marks my last major PSP project," says Fanjita. "I expect that Team C+D and Noobz will continue to release stuff without me, and I still hope to finish up some of the non-exploit projects that I'd been working on (Installotron, piKey etc.).

Fanjita says that the he will now concentrate on fatherhood as well as non-PSP projects that he wants to explore. We'll keep you updated for more developments on this topic.

Thanks to SooperGooman, Max, and Oriaj Zetroc for the tip!

I will truly miss you Fanjita I as well as thousands of other PSP users have greatly enjoyed all your hard work over the years. I hope you enjoy fatherhood it's a wonderful thing, and I hope to see more of your work someday soon.

It's all because of those ass holes selling PANDORA on FleaBay!

GOD DAMN IT!

This is one of the biggest blows the PSP community will ever

suffer and all because of greedy ass holes, you know the

ones, they like to jack up prices of Lumines on ebay. We

love you Fanjita and understand and will deeply miss you.

Thanks for all you have done for us.

Fanjita, it's a good decision. Don't look back, you've done more then your share of work on the psp. Thanks for all the goodtimes!

This can't be happing! First Dark Alex now Fanjita! NOOOOOOO!!! Oh well. :( If there is anyone to blame it's all the stupid haters and pirates that hurt the PSP scene. But there's now way to change that. It's going to keep happening as long as there's stupid people and that's not going to stop anytime soon. :) Good luck with your family and all you do in the Future Fanjita. Thanks for your contributions to the PSP scene. You will be missed.

I don't think it has anything to do with the selling of the battery on eBay, or atleast not the main reason. I believe that someone from inside the development team leaked the software before they were intending on releasing it. I think this is the trust thing that he is referring to. It is a shame that you can't trust the people you have worked and developed friendships with. It just goes to show that one bad apple can spoil the bunch.

Reply

# Your wrongGuest 2007-08-26 14:43
It's because the other people he was working on Pandora with. Some of them or one of them, leaked information and files for how to make the unbricker. This is the trust issue he was referring to. I'm sure the ebay people pissed him off but they were just using the info that was leaked and/or made available.

and also, like he said it a previous post, the early release it going to hurt, if not kill the chances of it working for psp slim. that sucks too. because i'm sure they were waiting for that to release it. i mean, they should hit shelves within a month. hopefully sony doesn't have time to fix that.

He's talking about a few specific persons (who were part of the team in developing the pandora battery exploit) that leaked it without the consnet of the group which wanted to make improvements and brush it up ect. I know who this developers are but I'm not gonna give names as it seems Fanjita doesn't want this to get public and I respect him for his great work on the psp scene. But as a hint, one of the leakers seemed retired and another was his companio, also theres a third one who has released many flash editing apps, if you figure out who they are plz don't mention their names.

Fanjita was truly a god amongst men. Who can blame him for this? I know I would do the same thing faced with this situation, your work defaced by greedy *****s who have absolutely no respect for the masterpieces you have bestowed upon us. Although many of us are not worth your grace, those of us who respect you will miss you dearly. Thank you for your generous contributions you have made to the world of homebrew, they will never be forgotten. Today homebrew dies, just a little bit more.

I've been following you and your teams work since the very beginning, since I was stuck on official Firmware, I always trusted you guys, I always used the LCS Loader to get a taste of emulation. When the day came that you guys managed to create a downgrader for the LCS method, like an Idiot, I already upgraded, But then you guys done the Tiff method, which allowed me to Downgrade and finally get good use of my PSP. I was always happy to see that you continued working on exploits to allow people on higher firmwares to downgrade too and you have built up a great reputation. Sorry to see you go and you will be missed on the scene, but hey, at least you got the final blow with Pandoras Battery eh! Be proud mate, you're gonna be missed!

Sony doesn't have to destroy the PSP homebrew scene, it will just destroy itself. As time goes by, it seems to be falling apart faster and faster.

The best programmers and hackers are leaving, less new homebrew releases....

The PSP homebrew community is coming to a slow death.

# PSP Scene - Retirement = Whining & ExcusesGuest 2007-08-26 17:22
The scene goes up and down like a bad rollercoaster. I'm tired of people "retiring" from the scene when the only began when they wanted to do more with their PSPs. Where are the heavy hitters that don't give a rip about what anyone thinks & still gets the job done instead of whining about trust, money, Sony pressure and so forth. No one ever retires, they just give excuses.

Then The Night the Tiff POC came out i ran down stairs all happy and downloaded it...i would stair at it for hours...then i went back to looking at the updates...

Then The Eloader Came out and I downloaded that...I am very careful about bricking...

I've been on that Tiff Eloader ever since...until now...I updated to 3.52 M33 because I felt safe enough...because if i bricked then I cood use Pandora Battery...it worked...I will always remember you and your april fools jokes that scared me half to death!

...........I'd say about 3/4 of the Homebrew users are ungrateful...which is a sad fact...however even if they are ungrateful...they will always remember The name "Fanjita"

I will never forget all the Tiff exploits and eloaders and everything you have helped the rest of us to achieve when we could only dream of it... I bought my PSP because of you and as corny as it sounds, will think of you when I play with it for years to come. Best of luck with your future projects and fatherhood, I only hope that I can achieve half of what you've done in my life. Peace, man.

I wish you the best of luck in all your future endevours as you stroll through life. The impact you've left on the PSP scene will be remembered throughout the existance of homebrew in the PSP scene. I am thinking of starting to develop homebrew for my psp and your one of the coders I much aspire to.

sorry to see you go pal. i understand the trust issues and i would do the exact same. fatherhood is much more important than a psp, a great console though it is. you have contributed greatly to the homebrew scene, and it was you who introduced me after i foolishly upgraded to 3.03 sony fw days before the 2.80 downgrader was released.

it was a blow when D_A left, but this is so much more devestating. good look and god bless, i hope your child will bring you happines, as you will feel a place in your life filled by a son/daughter that could NEVER be filled by a psp or any games console for that matter.

Come on man, don't pay attention to one that doesn't deserve it...

You gave us much of what we currently have and man I wish I had your talent to do such things.

If the problem is Sony, then I understand. If the problem is stupid people and lack of trust, then I think you should remain in the scene, as by leaving, you might actually be doing what some people want you to do.

Of course I am also an interested part in not wanting you to leave, but I honestly feel such talent and such generosity you have proven to give should remain for those whom always been here and always have known to appreciate your work.

This sounds selfish, but that's what I really thing.

Anyways, thanks for all the hard work and superb things you have done and allowed us to enjoy.

Hope you reconsider ;)

When Dax left, i was dissapointed yet it made me have a whole new respect for his work. Now that Fanjita has left im f#cking pissed cuz those *****s leaked the software. I can see why he has left, but i hope the remainder of these teams can keep the scene's spirit up and keep putting ou new homebrew for the psp 2000.

Thanks Fanjita and Dark_Alex. You are certified Scene Legends in my book.

Back in the days of 2.6, when eloader came out, I always remember Fanjita, you are one heck of a developer and sad to see you go. 2 years in the psp scene is outstanding and i hope you all the best. ignore the disrepectable people, this always happens. Its always hard to trust someone that leaks stuff.

I really admire Fanjita. But think about all the things he and us will miss because PSP-2000 is coming and he is gone. There are Noobz and C+D, but we'll see now if they can really provide us something cool for PSP-2000. And I think they _can_. Hopefully.

# Think about thisGuest 2007-08-27 02:23
Most of the people who disrespect and flame the Psp Devs, put down their hard work, put pressure on them to release more or do things quickly are a bunch of 12 year olds. If you look at the comments section, most of the time you are replying to kids of 10 years old more or less. Most Devs leave the Psp scene because of little kids.

I have to say at times I think Devs just come up with excuses for leaving when in all truth they are leaving simply because they have better things to do with their life, have become bored, uninterested, lost the addiction to the hacking. It would be refreshing to see a Dev leave saying ''Time to move on and spend more time on other things goodbye everyone''.

However there are always some kind of drama, whinging about others and basically creating more drama.

Fanjita, you say that: " Please don't disrespect any developer unless you've ever managed to produce anything of a similar level of achievement.

This sort of crap is one of the most distasteful aspects of the PSP scene."

I cannot code a ***** but I understand a lot of the functions around. So, my question here is that if I cannot do what PS3News did, like editing the firmwares and calling them my own, I should respect them? I really don't get your point. I have nothing against becus25 but I have not used his stuff so I cannot determine. But still, when you say that "Please don't disrespect any developer unless you've ever managed to produce anything of a similar level of achievement", and I cannot produce illegal copies of M33 software edited and calling it as my own, I should now respect them??? Oh come on!

Thanks for all you have done to the community, it would be already dead if it wasn't for you. Best regards, JaXeRiR

Some will stand while others fall. Big thanks for all you've done to date, but as one door closes another opens.

There will ALWAYS be someone with the skills and the hunger for the glory to step up to the plate.

Stop treating dev's like they're a finite resource. They're not.

Dev's are drawn to the CHALLENGE of reverse engineering and just because he's pissed off at some of the idiots in the scene, doesn't mean the challenge is gone. Either he will be back again later, or someone else will step in.

Once a dev, always a dev. There will ALWAYS be someone, somewhere who will appear and proove to you that "it CAN be done".

As long as the challenge is there, someone will step up to meet it. The be the first to beat the system. Patience is all that's required.

Thanks for all that you've contributed, Fanjita.

My PSP still has that same wallpaper made as a thank you, when the 2.71 downgrader came out, all from that TIFF exploit.

Without you, I'd still be on an official firmware. But that's not the only thing, I'm still grateful for what you did to the rest of the PSP scene, and helping others with their PSP's.

You are truly the MVP of the PSP scene, and it's sad to see you go. All the stuff you've done for us, in the past and present, we are all grateful for.

Sorry to those who pestered/annoyed/abused your help and kindness, these type of people believe the world revolves around them. They think of themselves, rather than the hard work of the developers. I understand how it feels, though. I hope you don't take anything personally, of any comments directed towards you.

Of course, Qj always has a few trolls in the comments, but these are the type of people whom are ungrateful children. No attention should be drawn towards them. Also sorry to those who backstabbed you, which has got to be a pretty big blow. I wish you hadn't paid any attention to them, but obviously it's pretty hard not to.

So, thanks for all that you've done for the PSP scene. Without you, I wouldn't have what I got now. I owe all my PSP enjoyment to you, and many of the other developers. Hope you ignore all the ungrateful ones, they have nothing better to say.

It truly kills me to see you leave, but it was good while you were here. I know it probably doesn't mean much, but you got my respect, feelings, and awe, along with many other PSP users.

Goodluck with future achievements, we'll all miss you. Hope to see you around the forums, though. Even if you won't be developing anymore, it's always good to hear your opinion/thoughts, or anything you feel like saying.

Cheers, I wish you luck in life and with your family.

Fanjita,

I hope you're at least a fairweathered fan of Lord of the Rings... because I'd like to make an analogy. You created the end all be all solution to everyone's problems with the PSP.

I sat and tried to think of something that could outshine this work, and I honestly couldn't come up with anything. You're a hero to our scene Fanjita. It makes me think of Frodo when he returned to the Shire in "Return of the King" there was nothing left to do... It was time to move on. You've made our world a better (and safer because of the impossibility of bricking) place. Sail on good fellow. We'll miss you. Know that you are a legend to this community. The thieves who exploit your opus for personal gain might make a few dollars, but anyone who has an inkling of a mind will know that you're the one who made it happen.

Thank you for your time, your persistence, and your genius.

Sincerely,

Scott

Cause it so happens one of the leakers (very known in the psp scene) is my friend and he told me about it. Yet his intention wasn't bad, he just thought (along with the other 2) that it didn't need brushing up and it was perfect for release but Fanjita and the rest of the team disagreed so my friend and the other 2 went on releasing it without the other's consent.

Man, I remember back in the days of the 0.95 eLoader, with the GTA exploit. At the time (and for a LONG time) it was my only way to get homebrew because I didn't want to downgrade because of the risks. I used eLoader from February to November -06, when I was forced to downgrade and install 2.71 SE-B'' because of the new GTA:VCS game (used 2.81). Despite all the unstable homebrew apps, I always managed to wait all the long time from starting up GTA to loading the eLoader, to start the app and then perhaps be forced to start it all over again. But it was so great, so incredibly cool to play Lost Vikings and other SNES games on my brand new PSP.

And it's all down to Fanjita! Thanks a lot, you won't believe what you've done to the PSP community. I still to this day help people with PSP hacking, and almost every time I recommend programmes or exploits, it's a Fanjita production. In my opinion, Fanjita is a far bigger man in the PSP community than D_A ever was. Honestly!

THANKS MAN, WE LOVE YOU LOADS!!!!

Not a patch or nothing could solve this problem since the so called "Hacks" come from th memory of the UMD it's self. We would try punkbuster, only that would raise the PSP's ram more than needed. Only Sony could actually come up with a solution to block 3rd party software from their system. They have tried and we are amazed they have not given up hope on the PSP. We have been told that the PSP Slim or as most users are calling it the PSP2 that it will have some sort of official software that forces users to upgrade or they can have no online connectivity (Sort of like the PS3), but the system will not turn on until it has checked and verified the system information (3-4 seconds). If somehow a custom firmware does come out for it, Sony digs into the code of the custom firmware and finds a code that is not used in the official and searches for that code, if it contains that code it will require a format and re installation of the official firmware. Sony has tried to well many times to stop the custom firmwares, but each firmware they could add something to detect the 3rd party software and someone could just null it out. They went after Dark_Alex and succeeded. They can't go after M33 Team as they are from Russia and do not have any copy right laws there. So they gave M33 credit on there behalfs, but when they try to hack the PSP2 they will find a little present for them. We will continue developing the Socom Series on PS3 and maybe a few more on PS2

Well.. another one bites the dust.... And I can see why. I don't exactly know what happened, (it wasn't Sony you dumbasses) but even from these comments I can see why someone wouldn't like the PSP community. I remember back when this site was relatively new.. and we would get intelligent comments that made me think, "Wow, that's a good idea" to a COMMENT. My guess is that the reason he quit is because people started selling his work without 1: His permission, and 2: How damn STUPID the PSP scene has become.. Everyone here who has done anything like that should just grow up... The PSP scene is dead, and was dying ever since the first PSP dev quit.

I don't blame these developers for quitting. People only care about the ones that they like best then say the other developers stuff is crap. Everything takes time. Take becus25 for example. Even though his works may not have been as good at the time, he could have been the next Dark Alex or Fanjita. And yet everyone saying he sucked made him quit. Maybe if we would actually encourage developers even if we don't like their stuff there might be more on the scene. And m33 is looking promising.

hey fanjita, it's really sad that you're leaving the scene, especially on the dawning of the new PSP-2000 models, but I can understand your reasoning.

perhaps the betrayers on the team had good reasons to leak the information, perhaps not, not knowing everything it's not my place to speculate, however, I hope you dont become too dissuaded from the homebrew scene, whilst you've no doubt given up on the PSP scene, you have provided us with benchmark titles. Its because of people like you that the machine has survived as long as it has, and for that I, for one, am grateful.

Best of luck in fatherhood and your future projects... should you ever return I only hope the scene has matured to accommodate.

Thanks for everything.

omg they killed Fanjita, you b a s t a r d s!

All PSP developers should quit until the PSP-scene learns a thing or two about respect and aprecciation.

Fanjita, farewell and good luck to you and your family.

First you spelled Fanjita wrong. Did you flunk kindergarden?

Second your unregistered.

Last the real Fanjita doesn't talk like a retarded gangster.

So how about you go **** yourself!

Oh well, who cares? Someone else will step up to take his place. If he was really the Hero some here seem to think he is he wouldn't be quitting just because someone he trusted screwed him, instead he would accept that some people suck and move on.

All of you wankers whining about him (or D_A) leaving, stop spending all your time watching Amerkin Idle and go learn ASM and contribute something worthwhile to the scene that has given you so much.
