DGEN v1.70 Source Code - Image 1We just got word from the QJ.NET PSP forums that Syn-z has released the source code for version 1.70 of DGEN, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive emulator for the PSP. This should allow people to work on their own little tweaks to the DGEN code to make for personal versions of the DGEN emulator, or as reference material for use on their own works.

Up on Syn-z's webpage, there's a small note which, according to Japanese translation sites, says that the source code is essentially free for people to use. The next bit is a little tough to decipher though, so we're putting up the whole message for you to read:

Alteration and feel free to do so.

Published content is a problem, or if you have any hope of applause button from the bottom of the Web.

However, this and other questions about what is accepted so please be patient.

That being said, you can try sending him a message through the "Clap!" link at the bottom of the webpage if you have any concerns or questions about the code. Enjoy!

Jesus Christ, how difficult is it to find someone who actually speaks Japanese who will translate for you? You should be ashamed to publish an article that has such a shoddy translation in it.

» oh.

Ah... I was just going to comment on how this source code was gonna be useful for the slim.

Well then, time to hit up google for the 1.70 slim edition...

Also, if QJ posts info on a Dgen version of Slim, I hereby witness that Mr. Grim should get the credit for it! And that I should get "1st!" reply to Mr. Grim's tip ;p

» Jesus is not on Earth

So, I don't know why you're asking the Prophet Jesus to find a Japanese translator. I think you're mistaken: Victor wrote this article, NOT Jesus.

Anyhow, offtopic, kinda:

» WOW!!!

Great job guys! I really didn't think this would be possible on the Slim w/o 1.5 access, bravo!!

Now all we need is DGen 1.7 on Slim and I'll stop being a phat holdout. :)

I'm guessing this can run on phat PSPs as well (firmware 3.x+). I'm going to test it out, the improvements sound great.

Prime... I think you'd better buy a Slim now, according to Mr. Grim's post!

» We need Sega CD!

Good, now hopefully someone can add SegaCD support to DGEN. If it can be done with the TG-16 emulators, it can be done with DGEN, right?

» 32x

32x support would be cool too, I always wanted to play Knuckles Chaotix

» It's a start...

Before adding new features, somebody needs to get rid of the horrible emulation issues this thing has. One that stands out is the fact that the sound isn't even at the right pitch! The DAC lags horribly behind the FM and PSG chips, as well...

I remember PSPGenesis had a better sound core. Maybe somebody could plop it in here? That'd be one evil down.

This emulator also has an issue with Sonic 1 Megamix - it has a weird error with platforms that not even a real Genesis shares! Seriously, that's a bit shoddy. >_>

Brunni should integrate this into MasterBoy. That'd be awesome.
