Daedalus Update - Graphical Fixes |
Ó
It's been quite a while since StrmnNrmn's gave us an update on some significant leaps and developments for R6. Although, he hasn't released the app yet, recently he updated his development blog with some insights about significant graphical fixes that he had accomplished for the so near, yet so far Daedalus PSP R6. In your comments, you have been sharing your problems with the emu and as a response to that, the first thing that StrmnNrmn shared was that he had managed to fix the horrible flickering that has haunted users when they are running some ROMs (the developer mentioned Paper Mario as a good example). How did he go about it?
He had a realization that some roms execute multiple display lists per frame, he earlier assumed that roms executed exactly one display list per frame and that each display list would clear the screen, render everything, and then wait for the screen to flip. Such is the case for Paper Mario which according to him, executes 2 display lists per frame. In the developer's own words "by making sure that I only flip after the second display list executes, I avoid the flickering (the actual solution is a little more involved but this is the general idea)."
After being able to solve that, he went on to remedy another issue. The next thing that he got his hands on has got something to do with the backface culling of triangles. He admitted that he was responsible for a minor boo-boo-- "when I (he) ported the graphics engine over from the PC version, I (he) forgot to implement the two or three lines of code which handles this." It may be something that is minor, but this fix is responsible for correcting a number of important graphics problems. He pointed out that this fixed "all the walls getting in the way in Quest 64."
And aside from these two developments, he was also able to squeeze in and fix a memory leak that could be found in the texture handling code which he believes was the root of the hassles or random crashing that usually happens when leaving the emulator running for several minutes or more. He observed that Super Mario 64 would randomnly crash after 5 minutes tops. When he fixed it, he noted that Mario was able to run without any hassles for a good 30 minutes.
On the lighter side of things, he wants to apologize to those who email him about their comments and other what-nots, you'd have to understand that StrmnNrmn is one busy developer. He promises to reply to those kind enough to share their thoughts once he is done with the emulator. For now, that's all, but something tells me that we can expect R6 to be available any time soon. And as a parting gesture, feel free to share some glitches that you've experienced with it so as the good developer could remedy them.

1st comment woot! i cant wait till you get this running 30 fps...
great
And I cant wait until retards like you stop wetting yourselves about first posts. And on topic its nice to see this emulator making progress, but unfortunately it may be a long time beofre its at a playable rate
Sounds good, but i won't be satisfied untill it runs the roms at a decent speed :p
This is gonna be one hell of a project. If i was a dev, I'd probably end up charging people for my work cos it seems to be a HARD task to accomplish
this is really great great workstrmnntrmn how much average fps can this thing pull right now?
This is great, I play simple games with it just to try it out, but for now I'll wait before getting into the Zeldas and Mario :p, but I do love this guy's work... he's like a fricken PIMP!!!!
great work hopefully see a new release soon keep up the good work
keep it up my man
we need some sound on this emualter
Keep up the good work! this is more believable than Zombi146's work so i applaud you for keeping us informed Strmnmmnmmmnmmmnm...... umm Well Done!! :p
i dled theres NO fuc.king sound!!!!!!!!!!!!
what happened to the "full speed" n64 emu rumored to come out after the 14th? any word from either the news poster or the creator/editor of the emu?
only stormingnorman and psmonkey can be trusted with their emus
@12-it is supposd to be like that idiot @13-I don't know in what world you live, but here it is still 12/7 @14-yeah because they are the only ones with skill to make a n64 emu....you are also an idiot anyway can't wait for R6...keep it up storming norman! also can't wait to hear more from zombi....
ofcourse those people are asses they post here don't they? Im glad that correcting 12 year olds that are just starting to get one ball to drop gives you some sort of moral satisfaction.. 15 is totaly right.. that ultrahle is most likely fake. i hope they port corn to psp.. that was even faster then ultrahle.
project64 is the best pc n64 emulator around and even it flickers on paper mario. u should make a n64 emulator for the pc after this, it would probably be even better lol
Nr 15: you're a little wanker (for giving such an anwsers). Do you got raped when you were a child?
thats just sick mate
I'm hearing of alot more N64 Emulators right now that are working alot better. For this one I get: Name: Daedalus Description: Daedalus is an N64 emu to keep an eye on...it currently supports graphics plug-ins(Zilmar Specs), and runs about 35% of all comercial games at full speed. This one is also open source. But there are 2 more I'd like to point out... Name: Corn Description: Corn is a very fast N64 emulator with sound written by ContraSF. Right now it can run many games, such as Mario64, StarFox, and Bomberman 64. There is save state support, and the speed is incredible - however, it tends to be unstable for some people, so be wary if you're working on that important term paper. This is definitely one of the top N64 emulators, especially if you don't have a computer which meets the beefy requirements of other emulators. Version: 0.3 WIP AND Name: UltraHLE Description: The emulator that actually started it all. This emulator was made by Reality Man and Epsilon, two names that will always be remembered in the future. They created the first working N64 emulator that played 55 games. Although UltraHLE's only limitation is that it needs a Voodoo card to be run, other people can use a Glide Wrapper to play the gams, and UltraHLE means perfect when it says Perfect. Games like Zelda 64, GoldenEye, Banjo Kazooie, run the BEST on UltraHLE, a MUST have! Version: 1.0.0
when you start the game when the lakitu with the camera flies over the water some triangles of water dissapear ( sometimes ) and when the lakitu gets to theland part ( where the pipe is ) in one part when the lakitu view changes ( before the pipe appears ) a triangle of land dissapears ( sometimes ).
Um.. Those are PC emulators- Not PSP emulators. And Corn sucks- horrible emulator. PJ64 is much better, very scalable. ~Soniti
Keep up the good work!
release is or stfu
wtf happened to that guy who said he got mario zelda and goldeneye running full speed keep up the good work strnm
I hope that StrmnNrmn can work with PSdonkey like he has been doing already so that PSdonkey can help StrmnNrmn increase the speed of his emulator. That would be great if these 2 coders can work together like the way PSdonkey has been upgrading daedalus for us with menu background pictures and menu music and also eboot music and sound. I hope they work together.
*CRAPS*
PSDonkey is a faker and always has been. Just do a search. He continues to change his identity (and gender) to propagate himself and has never coded anything. For over half a year now. Keeps photoshopping videos and respamming all of us. In fact, I bet your PSDonkey. Get a freaking life. Seriously.
I cant wait till this is done, keep up the good work!!!
#28 I think #26 means PSmonkey...
PSDonkey has been updating Daedalus number 28 has it right, but yeah I would like to see Donkey's emulator before I say if he can code. So far he's only done simple stuff that I can even do with backround music and different backrounds. You can do that with psp brew lol.
gonna have to get a bigger memory stick if this actually gets to full speed :S
f*u*c*k* you post 3
f*u*c*k* you post 3
you pussies are retarded
hey yall, i got a free psp by doing this and im not joking or spamming. this is a good way for you guys to get a free psp. while it is a small hastle to finish, it is nothing compared to spending $200 on a psp. this is most surely worth it. here is the URL to follow.. http://psps.freepay.com/?r=31315202
What did happen to the 3 N64 games that were 'supposedly' runnin full speed? It was a load of bollocks wasnt it! To be fair you shouldnt believe anything where the 'evidence' is just pictures! Ne ways can't wait for this emulator! It sounds kool!
it was a different n64 emu we have heard nothing about that any way this one is much better
Hello, PSdonkey has done much more than just change the eboot sound and background in the icons of Daedalus. PSdonkey has implemented sound in the new R5 remix version and also added a better menu in the R5 remix version of Daedalus. If you don't know what the F*ck you are talking about, then don't say anything at all. PSdonkey has proven time and time again that he has ery good coding skills. Here is the R5 remix version http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about32551.html Plus he has made a very good C++ tutorial for everyone here http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about28694.html You can read more about PSdonkey's acompilsments in StrmnNrmn's blog which states that StrmnNrmn is working with PSdonkey to improve the speed of his emulator.
Looks like Zombi was just another lamer. Its been WEEKS since he announced that he had a full speed emulator. Either he died before he could release it or he was just trying to get attention, its been too long for him to have been telling the truth since any sane person would have released SOMETHING after an announcement as big as that. Looks like Daedelus is the only real N64 emulator for psp.
wait until tommorow. I reckon zombi was full of it aswell, but tommorow was rumoured to be his release date, so we'll see if it was a hoax for sure (and it probably was.) I don't see how its possible to get N64 running @ 30fps on a psp... unless there is some whack resolution resizing kind of option. If anyone is going to do it, it will be StrmnNrmn, He's doing really, really well with this emu.
Sometime ago pspupdates reported about an emulator specified for each rom, which run at full speed and with sound.. I never heard anything about that... What happened???
he #40, I think you are right. I believe in donkey and strmnnrmn. I downloaded the new R5 remix version done by donkey with the link you provided and it is awesome. the menu is very cool and now it has sound in the game. donkey is a god amoung gods.
oops, sorry I meant #39 not #40. I agree with #39 and I downloaded donkey's new daedalus R5 revision and it is super cool.
I've been around the PSP homebrew scene since the release of the PSP, but even if eventually Strmmnrmm gets to decent emulation, it will be awhile...and i mean if SNES is close to full speed, it isnt. So while I'd like to be proven wrong, I doubt. But all the Dev's out there including Strmmnrmm arent obligated to do any of this for us but yet they still do... Keep it up.
this is cool but if only it could play those runs that are big like dk64 and mario part 3 d stuff!
On a japanese site i translated, it had some news about a 12GB memory stick coming for the release of spring 2007 in sync with the PS1 emulator to alow for more data. No, im not telling qj what the website is, but i did copy the image and upload it. Here are quotes from the anoynimous japanese website. "12 gigbyte sandisk brand memory stick to be released around 春分の日." NOTE: the translator i used did not translate the japanese symbol shown. Further investigation into the symbol showed that is was a japanese holiday around spring. I tried sending this to qj net thing however, for some reason after two attempts, did not go through. More quotes, "This high capacity storage device is being released as an alternative to holding your ps1 iso's, well, that is at least the intention of sandisk. The predicted price is 39,800 yen." Does anyone know how much that is in american or uk money??? It sounds liike alot. Hopefully qj will read this and post this. Lastly, you can check out this cool products picture here. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i290/xsouthpole/SANDISK12GBMSD.jpg Once again i say I AM NOT POSTING THE SITE TILL I GET PROPER CREDIT FOR FINDING THIS.
DUDES I JUST TRIED PAPER MARIO, I WAS EXSPECTED IT TO RUN REAL SLOW BUT IT WAS VERY PLAYABLE TRy IT OUT
will somebody pleeease help me. i want to compress me iso's to a lower format. i believe theres only .dax and .cso? what loaders will load those two formats? also do they both still allow wi-fi play?! PLEASE EMAIL ME AT JoJeff08@yahoo.com JOJEFF08@YAHOO.COM PLLLLEASE I NEED THIS FAST FOR MY HOLIDAY!!!

he's back, yes i been waiting for him i told u daedalus would pull through he always does.I hope he's really working withe psdonkey they would make a krunk team. i hope i can play megaman64 at a decent speed without the game crashing. i thought he quit YES.
If zombi releases an emulator tomorrow that does what he claims then he will indeed get the last laugh. It would be like scoring the winning goal when the whole crowd is booing you. If he doesnt and we dont hear from him, then I guess we get the last laugh.
If possible, want to know what fixes were made to make Top Gear Raly run smoothly. On the version I have, it runs, but very slow and textures were not applied correctly. I don't care about sound (no sound for this anyways) because there's no emulator that can support sound for this game yet. (correct me if i'm wrong)
I could actually run ISOs from the previous versions..Great!
all you people who are flaming others.... your all immature... grow up, also #30 i thought there was psdonkey and pspmonkey.... the 2 different people? and pspmonkey actually have a working emulator while psdonkey is the faker? or the other way around, but thats what i know... anyways nice work StrmnNrmn!
PSdonkey is the one working with StrmnNrmn not PSmonkey. PSdonkey has improved the R5 release with his own R5 remix that include new eboot icons and sounds and also sound inside the emulator menu and also new updated menu inside the emulator. I downloaded donkey's latest R5 revision and it is way better than the normal R5 version of daedalus
