Daedalus R12 update: Super Smash Brothers dynarec bug still under works |
Ó
About two weeks ago, homebrew developer StrmnNrmn announced an update for the Daedalus R12 N64 emulator indicating that GoldenEye was running properly with dynarec. The coder further followed that up by stating more work was to be done on other the ROMS although Super Smash Brothers' dynarec bug was still problematic.
The most recent update at StrmnNrmn's blog indicates that while he's been trying to find the time to get these game bugs fixed, other tasks seem to be bogging his progress down:
I'm still in the middle of looking at fixing the various dynarec bugs which are keeping Super Smash Bros from working with Dynarec enabled. I've not made as much progress as I would have liked since the last post, as I've been very busy with work and various other commitments. Hopefully I should get a bit more time to work on R12 from the end of this week.
As StrmnNrmn states, this is just to let the guys know that he's still alive and that R12 is still one of his itineraries. Stay posted in case more updates are announced.

scared me, at first i thought it was the release xD
Keep up the good work guys!
is a lost cause.psp cannot emulate n64 at full speed unless your focusing on just one game witch is mario64
it is possible but i think the major problem with emulation is trying to hit 100% compatibility which is what most developers try to get ebfore they even start tampering with speed
Its ok it can emulate youl see develepors can do amazing things
Can't wait for the release:D:D
cant wait your seem very dedicated much apreciated
first to reply first
I got up to 44 stars on Mario 64 but it won't save anymore after that. Can this be fixed too?
i just know u,ll get it worken perfect one day. i do have to say u are the best developers iv seen. i,m looken forward to this. but i got one Question, i just got a new second psp after my last one broke, on my last on i always put ur dadliuses on it from R1 to R11. any way since my last one broke i was wondering could i still put ur homebrews on my new psp. my new psp came with V 2.06 plz help
He may list tons of games as WORKING... but unless they run @ 15fps at the very least they will never really be worth playing on the PSP... I am still hoping, but less and less hopeful with each new "exciting" release :\ I would be more happy with an N64 emulator that played 4-5 good games at 30fps than 200 games that run at 5-10 FPS! www.videoGameObsession.com
THIS EMULATOR IS FUCCKING SH1T, STOP RELEASING THIS, WE WANT A FULL-WORKING ONE!!!1
Piece of ***** man... We don't want to read stuff like that, you know what I mean? Just inform us mother*****ing REAL releases... We just *****ing don't want your arselicking *****er *****ty UPDATE notifications... What's the big ***** about it anyway? "StrmnNmn is working on it" right? Same ol'***** all the time... I'm fed up with it you lazy *****suckers!
who cares about super smash, i mean its a great games but i d rather have speed than anything esle
hey *****-tard speak for yourself and go suck of a donkey now as for the rest of us we are eagerly waiting for daedallas r12 as i am shure it will be wonderful
dude above me.... are you completly stupid? or just had a rough day at school....try making your own 64 emulator wise ass, see how long that takes you. kudos to strmnnmn
the dynarec bug may actually improve all other games... so it may be smart to get smash bros working
but if you really want a cool smash bros clone to run 100% on psp, try viewtiful joe royal rumble. ps. i agree - stop telling us 'it's going to work one day', just let us know as each release comes out, and we can try it ourselves. i miss pspupdates when there was heaps of cool development and stuff worth downloading everyday, but it's not their fault - all the emu devs have released everything worth having already. and the psp game market has really dried up badly. is there anymore good games coming out? (i already own 20 of the best!)
Zelda isnt even close to working "good" yet huh?
Loveless just wants you to know that hes still alive, and although many sandwiches were completed he's constantly bogged done by other things to post a completed work.. a job.. relationship and learning the finer art of drinking people under tables. dynamic cheese support had a bug in it so he had to scrap the last roast beef, I C E berg lettuce, tomato etc sandwich and instead opted for a fresh new sandwich promising this one to have "all the FIXINS" we here at qj want to assure you that NO news is still technically... news Loveless's next release will come with full tutorial on your own sandwich installation... so stay tuned for pspchumpdates!! that is if they dont delete his posts again!
Still waiting for this badboy to come out. Would make for a sweet DS emu, and some pda style homebrew too. C'mon HarleyG, don't give up.
posted the above in another thread........ Not sure what happened there. Sorry.
I got 120. I think you need to press save and quit for it to save though because I had trouble sometimes too.
i have no idea why you keep saying 'we' bcus you certainly cant speak for me.. i also have no idea why you would even post here given you obiously dont appreciate what these developers are producing for us for free
KEEP IT UP BROTHER U THE MAN DONT FORGET PEOPLE ITS FREE NO B@TCHING
I Thought It Was The Release FFS...
frist plost! stop posting progress! shutup! you try coding n64! why you post all updates you suck! monkey is better! that should just about cover it. seriously, comments here are absolutely the worst I've seen anywhere.
I wonder if its possible just to use a bios instead of doing all this other coding? i mean the gab emualator gpsp uses a bios so why couldn't this emulator? im sure it would be so much better but idk.
alot of u are ***** tards especially u : Xtina Aguilera ur just some stupid retarded *****er, if u dont care about the n64 emu then dont post here, no body cares about ur post. and keep up the good work strmrnmn or however it is u say it, i just know u,ll get a perfect 64 emu just keep trying, i remember when it was the first dadl;iuse mario 64 was the only game working and it worked like crap, now ur all the way over here mario 64 works full and the emu is almost perfect now almost evry game works with sound, i really appreicate ur devlopment, u Rule
strmnnrmn or whatever is keeping people up to date, and also getting an idea of the publics response to that as well. if all the idiots who flame him further down in this comments section carry on, he's gonna get disheartened. shut up you guys, say something positive or say it somewhere else. all i want is a deadalus that will play goldeneye and mariokart networked decently and i'm happy. maybe we could convince him to produce custom builds :)
It's spelled StrmnNrmn, so my guess is that it's Stormin' Norman, with the vowels taken out. I dunno, but that's how I'd pronounce it. Good work on your emulator so far. Don't let it bog you down too much in regards to the rest of your life.
I WANT IT NOW!!!
I think all things Xtina said were meant to flame at QJ staff. Anyway, keep going StrmnNrmn -- you worth a fortune for dudes like me out there. I love your work. Just don't mind whatever those haters say. You're loved. You're desired. (Okay, last one looks gay but this is "Guy love", allright? --- Foolproof: Scrubs, Season 6 Episode 6 "My Musical")
There's no such a thing called "to work good" - something can work "well"... I hate broken English talkers... Plus, Zelda works just freaking well. Buy a Nintendo DS, quit PSP scene... You don't deserve this LOVE bigg'uns.
kakachacha, just upgrade to 2.71 then downgrade to 1.5. After that if you want custom firmware (I cant see why you wouldnt) just install it.

stop giving us bulls*it updates.no one cares what the ***** the probs. are or anything just make the fuc*ing emulator 100% then we will be happy.so take your nerd ass and fix the fuc*ing sh*t bit*h.
it should save all the time even without using "save and quit" in M64...just make sure you press select after completing a level (in case something bad happens and it stops suddenly) and exit to Daedalus main menu before you press "Home".
the point youre all missing is that updates are for people who want to read about his progress. it says it is so we know he hasn't disappeared and is still working hard. NOT UPDATING WILL NOT MAKE A RELEASE OR FULL WORKING EMULATOR COME ANY FATSER. it your sick of updates, actually read the title of the jump to see if it says "DAEDALUS R12 UPDATE:" and don't click, look at, then b***h at it. It will say DAEDALUS NOW FULL SPEED WITH ALL GAMES when you will like it. Get the f**k out of here and get a life instead of waiting to see if theres an update so you can be a p***y.
How did Sony manage to develop a nearly perfect PSX emulator?
To be honest, Daedalus wasn't a good emulator for the PC to begin with. Every release is like the second coming of Christ. Instead of releasing a few tidbits every now and then to make the fan boys wet their pants, how about just releasing a half way full version, rather than updates than fix, and I use that term VERY loosely, ONE game at a time.
Also, to people who want to flame this post, namely psp-64-pwns. I did have faith in this emulator. What makes it worse is that i'm disappointed in it. No need to let some fanboy like yourself try to make me feel bad about bad mouthing him. It's just that I'd think most would see the logic in giving up on this emulator since it took him 8-10 revisions or so to get SM64 even to a bearable frame rate. Here's a little food for thought as well. Critic's don't need to make something better than what they critique, so just for you guys who would say "ZOMG U MAEK SOMETHING BETTAR." I'd hope that would shut you up beforehand.
You sir, are a saint.
I do hope that we will see compatibility for Zelda soon, such a classic game.
Hey bud, easy to diss something you know you couldn't do, huh? Troll.
see Jackal if u start to loose faith in this emulater then u loose faith in strnnmmrm or what ever, anyway u will see this emu worken perfect one day, and if they can make a perfect p1 emu y not a perfect n64? plz tell
The PS1 emu was developed in-house by Sony and uses all of the functionalities of the PSP to their maximum. This emulator already doesn't work well on PC and probably won't be perfect on the PSP, either. An entirely new project should be started in order to create a N64 emulator, one that is coded to fit the exact specs of the PSP. Even then, the specs of the N64 are vastly different from the PSP. We can barely get some SNES games running at 10FPS, I highly doubt they'll ever get more than one or two games working at 30FPS with this emulator.
Well, I don't know about you, but it's nice to know that the apparent lack of progress is actually some stumbling block, or external pressures, instead of the developer up and dropping the project with no warning. Besides, I find it interesting to hear all the technical details. So, here's a little bit of advice. Either don't read this, or subscribe to the RSS feed (don't use IE7, just use FireFox) and don't read the ones with topics you find stupid. I don't flame every post of a new AutoPOPStation clone saying "we don't need another one of these! We need more Linux/Mac versions!" I just don't read it. I got all the info I needed out of the title, and I let things be. But I agree, the comments here on QJ are quite poor. It makes the -50 comments on Digg look intelligent.
The BIOS is just a software abstraction layer between software and hardware. The DynaRec recompiler translates hardware calls from those meant for N64 hardware into something the PSP can understand. The use of the BIOS is irrelevant. What makes this such a complex project is that the N64 is such a complex piece of hardware compared to the GBA, partly because it's a 64-bit MIPS processor with a totally custom chipset compared to a 32-bit ARM processor. There has to be a conversion between 64-bit math to 32-bit math, which slows a lot more down. Then there's the graphics processor, which the GBA pretty much lacked, and the expanded RAM. Essentially, they're incomparable. But it is a good question.
all hype all the time.. simply believing in magic doesnt make it more than slight of hand.
PS1 emulation was made by Sony, we couldn't do it without their actual hand in the project. I lost faith when it QJ just started blurting out pre-release jargon about "ooooh Im sooo close to being done! JUST YOU WAIT SSB WILL WORK!" Like one said, working and PLAYABLE are 2 different things.
A PSX emulator on a PSP is much easier than a N64 emulator, because.. 1. PSX is Sony's product os they have the complete program code. 2. PSP uses nearly same format like the PSX, so this shouldn't be too hard.
So if I make a Dreamcast emulator that BARELY works and sucks harder than a girl at a mexican whore house, I can be on par with Dark_aleX's popularity? It seems to be the case here.
well im glad they posted something about the R12. I was starting to think there was not going to be a R12 until i read this. Keep up the great work StrmnNrmn!
do it, by r15 i bet anything dadliuse will work 100%, keep up all the great work and keep us updated everyweek. i honistly dont see y every one hates the fast updates , i love em. i check here ever day just for a update of strmnnrm n64 emu. iv been using it since R1 and from that to now it has come a really really long way. so great work keep it up and u will have it 100% with every rom working :)
i am working on a working project 64 emulator for psp. its much better than daedalus, youu can run pretty any game full speed as it works on the same basis on the pc version. stay tuned and i will try to realease it as soon as i can find a way to run it on a psp.
u above me, u have a emulater for n64 that works much much better then dafaliuses, and ur saying almost every rom runs 100%. ru freaken kidding me plz realease it plz plz plz, i really want to play zelda on the go, but if u cant run it on a psp like dadaliuse then i doubt it will work the same as is it works on ur pc., because sir psp cant handel as good as a pc, but anyway plz keep me updated on this ok :)
quit smokin weed dude. the post is waaaay up there. to gregerson316, that is true. just google downgrade help and you will see everything.
and smart to fix all the bugs. that is one step to compatibility anyway.
i miss that too. there are just news now. but there are still room for devs and games. remember, the psp firmware is just the beginning. there are so much things coming. i heard it from my friends too.
food speak.
i see i met my match. you sir, have tought me something new.
that is exactly why the devs leave and quit the updates. Too many noobs asking "when is it gonna be released?" or "When is it gonna run full speed" etc.
i seriously doubt that he has it. cuz if he does then he would have released it already. bugs or no bugs.
Im still not clear on what dynarec is. It seems to me that its somthing you turn on to make your games rune crappy..
After I'm done sweeping the streets, and the halls inside a couple of schools, I'll get back to my work. I appreciate what you guys are doing for me.
i gave up on daedalus its just been too long and its still not compatible with turok
