Daedalus R12 next weekend - Image 1We hear your comments. Some of you would say something to the extent of "Hey QJ it's good that you're posting updates on Daedalus and all, but can't StrmnNrmn just release the damned thing already?" Well. Maybe this could make ends meet. We've got 1) good news and 2) even more good news today!

The release of Daedalus R12 is now dated. Since StrmnNrmn is going on a vacation at the end of this month, he's hoping he can release his N64 emulator before then. Red letter day(s) would be next weekend: June 23 or June 24. In the event that something wicked crops up, we could find the roll out on June 26 or June 27.

StrmnNrmn's content that he got Super Smash Bros. up and running with dynarec enabled (we know that all to well by now *wink*), and from now until the release, he'll just polish up the graphics and do his best in making the release as playable as possible. Since GoldenEye still needs a lot of work though, he'll leave it as is for R12 and work on it for future releases.

Now here's the "even more good news" part of this post. StrmnNrmn has now also given us his thoughts on incorporating a multiplayer feature in Daedalus. He's also heard some of your comments, one of which was a question posed by Zeus on StrmnNrmn's blog (this would be in light of the Q&A we had the other day):

[...] how hard would multi-player be to implement? More importantly, do you think that there is enough bandwidth, and low enough lag, to allow a host-client multiplayer setup to be playable? [...] Or do you think that distributing the computational workload would be a better approach? [...]

StrmnNrmn says that with Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. working A-OK, there's going to be more demand for multiplayer support, and right off the bat, he says that this isn't likely to happen soon. He even mentions that the we can learn a thing or two from the PS3-PSP Remote Play framework, but of course, what we're trying to look at is a PSP-PSP Remote Play framework for Daedalus.

Good thing is he already has a solution in mind of how to make multiplayer work for Daedalus and it involves a client-host set up, with info being sent via a TCP connection. Now if his approach does work out, the good thing is that each player would be able to play the game (e.g. Mario Kart, GoldenEye) in full display without having to deal with split-screens.

Astounding. Daedalus R12 hasn't even been released yet, and he's already talking about plans for Daedalus R12+++! At the rate that StrmnNrmn is going, we can definitely look forward to a lot of possibilities. PSP dead? Nope. PSP Daedalus, more like! Nyar har, someone made a funny!

You can click the Read link below to hear his full thoughts on the multiplayer feature on Daedalus.

I've been away from the PSP scene for about 2 months because my PSP screen is broken and then my computer got a virus, but I fixed it and ordered a white 1.5 psp from Ebay (it hasn't arrived yet) and I was wandering if N64 emulation was at almost full speed w/ sound yet or not.

From games i have played i got around 15 - 20fps and there is sound but it is really jumpy

» Yes!!!

If he is considering multiplayer Smash Brothers and Goldeneye (even thought its glitchy) must be running over 30 frames a second consistently to even consider multiplayer. This os great news. Keep up the work on Daedalus.

by timmage89 - 2007-06-16 12:22
» No multiplayer!

StrmnNrmn should focus on more important things such as faster speed, better sound, and savestates before he starts working on multiplayer.

by nunya_business - 2007-06-16 12:45
» @ timmage89

I second that; multiplayer should be the last priority, considering how much more improvement can be made to speed and compatibility. I can tell you that StrmnNrmn seems to share my opinion on his blog:

"I have thought about multiplayer a great deal, but I've never made any plans to work on it - there didn't seem to be much point getting multiplayer working before there were a few multiplayer games running quickly and glitch free. Now that MarioKart and Super Smash Bros. are both working reasonably well, there's obviously going to be a lot more demand for multiplayer support. Before I raise expectations and get anyone's hopes up, I should mention that this isn't likely to happen any time soon."

» Strmn Nrmn on eating his fries

For those who have been waiting for another Daedalus update from StrmnNrmn, you're in luck. The intrepid retro console dev has released another update on his Daedalus development. Just now in this current time Strmn Nrmn had to stop for half an hour his emulator to eat hi fries but is he eating the fries correctly? Let's find out. Strmn Nrmn is being a little skeptic on how to eat his fries faster to continue on the emulator but here is what he thinks:

"Maybe if I eat 2 nfries at a time instead of one I might have a speed increase in my eating of the fries but a monor bug is occurring which is that I have no fork at the moment. I can't eat the fries without a fork cause then many unassigned codes will pop in my brain and make me dizzy plus my mom will scold me. Also, standing up and going to the washmachine is very time consuming for my processor and may hamper any promts I may issue while walking. Yet's I'm hopeful I may find a solution to this problem but who knows, it may take me weeks, it won't be easy getting that fork".

As it turns out, the problem wasn't a chewing the fries process thing but still, StrmnNrmn promised that he's going to find a work around. Stay tuned for that issue of eating the fries faster for him to continue on the Daedalus emulator.

» I am looking forward to this...

Hey, if even 2 games work at full speed then that will definitely be a major achievement. I will look forward to testing this emulator in the near future once R12 is released.

Oh, I do have one question, what is the framerate on Conker's Bad Fur Day? Come to think of it, will that game be playable yet?

just one simple question, curious if this will play other N64 games too, other then the ones mentioned....I know any other game would probably have it's own issues I'm sure, but I just wanted to know if Daedalus is supposed to be specifically for SSB, Mario Kart and Goldeneye. Or is he just making it most compatible with those games?

Why erekiddo?? dont have any friends...im sure that there r ppl (like me) w/ friends and family who would play multiplayer...so just cause u dont have friends. dont ***** to us... also we dont need 60 fps... the computer only says its runnin that if u use a comp. emulator but its actually boostin it up in a different way... in other words, full speed is not 60 fps. we need around 30-40 fps for full

» Check this out (No, seriously)!!!!!

Please read this, you will be excited. When you click this link, http://www.getfreemoneywithnoeffortwhatsoever.com/thisisreal you will sign up for a website that pays you 2 - 425,999,999$ (PER) to do blowjobs, look at your computer screen, and watch paint dry.

Companies such as British Petroleum pay cashcrate to have people see their winnings, and when you watch attentively, cashcrate simply passes the money onto you without you doing any effort at all. By spending an average of 2 minutes on cascrate per day,

I have made 472,999,999$ in December, 412,999,999$ in January, and 271,999,999$ (SO FAR) in February (Just in case you found this fishy cause Febraury already ended... In Iceland it's still Febraury... really). You get paid in real checks (which may look fake but trust me it'll have funds) from "PORT PRINCIP MEDIA" every month that you earn 999 dollars or more (restrictions may apply). It may seem too good to be true (and trust me, I wouldn't lie to you about this great deals),

but I assure you it IS true (really). Also, with their referral program, you can refer people by sending them your link (you get when you sign up) and for every buck they earn, you get 20 bucks (amazing ain't it?) also! (Think how much money you can make if you have 100,000,000,000 friends from Nepal making 25 cents a day!).

You DO have to enter your credit card and social security number (but only for security reasons). Nothing Harmful can come from cashcrate (except seizures, gonorrhea, epilepsy, autism, cancer, Herpes, Diabetes and few times Death). YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE 18 OR OLDER, I AM 1 YEARS OLD (and a half) AND REFERRING PEOPLE, AND I MAKE THIS MUCH MONEY A MONTH! (Beleive me, I'm a special kid).

JUST SPENDING A COUPLE SECONDS A DAY ON THE COMPUTER! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR READING THIS (now obey me).

Think it's a scam? (You better not) Read this(from the website) "We assure you that this is not a scam! (we don't lie) Companies need consumers to try and look at products, services, and websites and are willing to pay more money than they make to have them do so.

Most of the time you're asked to do this without any compensation (and on this special occasions you don't get paid), what we do is take the money companies give us for YOUR participation, and give you back up to 0.02% of it!"

There are alot of websites like this, I have tried almost all of them and this really is the best, and legit one (this is certainly the one, not a scam like others, this is the special one and the one and only to trust and use out of all the others trying to scam you).

like fj4 is saying, i think pspupdates is drawing conclusions here by thinking host/client setup = fullscreen multiplayer, wich is incorrect. You'd haveto either do like fj4 says and somehow "patch" the ROM itself, or strech the splitscreen part of the player to cover the whole screen.
