Rumor alert!!! Did we just boost the spirits of our PSP Updates readers? Readers Alomo and Axel told us to check MaxConsole Forums out, where forum member Mathieulh claims that Booster is back in business with the PSP, and working on DevHook, after several months of inactivity due to coding... for... another... console (guess which one). This is what he said:
Just for the people not to worry, Booster has now resumed his work on the psp (especially devhook) after several months of inactivity due to beeing working on another console's scene (I am not sure I can name it so I wont).
I am sorry, for now I cannot give any ETA current devhook betas, still be sure to know serious improvements were done.
There's no other independent confirmation of this claim from Mathieulh, other than Dark_Alex's hints about a DevHook 2.80 beta (and the hints about the other console). And that it still had some bugs needing working out. This is the most likely scenario we're looking at. But there's that 3.0 dump/decrypt to consider.
Check the source out and see how many times the numbers 3.0 and 3.01 pop up. Welcome to the world of wild dreams and wilder speculation. As we said, the hardest piece of intel we have on Booster comes from Dark_Alex about the 2.80+ betas, so we can safely sit on - or stand by - that. After the dump of DA BIG 3-0H, can we begin to believe in miracles again?
Without any direct post from Booster himself, everything else really is idle speculation, even from us. But we'll bet that when he does speak up, the scene will be hanging on his every word. Our bet's on the 2.80. But we can still believe in miracles, even the wildest ones...

The C+D order was the distrobution of Devhook .43(the wifi fix if im not mistaken) which was an unoffical build that contained a file copyrighted Sony.

Just a few weeks ago I updated to 2.81 to play GTA VC, now the day after yesterday updated to 3.00 because of the "bug". And now I'm so desapointed, I should have waited until this to play my GTA....

With the holidays just around the corner, I wouldn't doubt a Devhook upgrade. Many people will be getting new games that require 2.8X and won't be able to play them (a situation I face myself). If Booster were to come out with 2.80 or even the great 3.00 before X-mas (which seems perfectly reasonable), it would be a massive boost for both Booster and the homebrew community and also another blow to Sony.

Even if he managed to emulate 3.0. The PSX emulator will be much harder.
Each PSP has a unique ID that has to be registered on the Playstation network in order for you to transfer the PSX games to it.
Since this ID comes from the PSP itself, im thinking the MAC address but I could be wrong, chances of getting pirated PSX games will be slim to none.
Cause in fact, most people use these to run pirated games.

I definitely wished that Booster would not leave the PSP scene. They say he's coming back to work on the next devhook. But how do we know this isn't all just a big rumor.
I hope it isn't, it's finally a developer that puts Sony in it's place. Because a short while after another Firmware Update is released there is a new Devhook to emulate it.

its the same cuz if you have 1.5, you can emulate 2.71 to emulate 3.0 and if you have 2.71 you can emulate 1.5 (or downgrade) to emulate 3.0 so ill be happy both ways.

By perfectly reasonable, I meant a 2.80 emulation. As you said yourself, he already has a beta version of it, so again, 2.80 emulation before christmas seems fairly reasonable. However, if there isn't, no biggie; no one's gunna die (If you are then that sux). It will happen eventually; I'd just prefer it sooner than later (as would many).
