A bit of bad news for the PSP homebrew community, and those of us who reap the benefits of their labors: one of today's up-and-coming coders, becus25, has recently announced that he's leaving the scene on a sad note. We get you all the details of this rather unfortunate turn of events.The news comes directly from becus25's own blog, with only a single entry that holds his final message to the homebrew scene. Fortunately, he also included an English version of his farewell letter. Here it is, verbatim:
Definitively I am not in a good moment. They have been several things that have happened these days which I want neither to remember nor to mention anything. I leave the scene.
The code of the IE will not be thrown for personal reasons.
I sit it. A greeting.
Certainly a sad day indeed. We wish becus25 the best of luck with his future endeavors, and give him thanks for all the work he's put into contributing to the homebrew scene as we know of it.

I bet he left the scene because he was simply fed up of the idiots flaming his work, the M33 team dissing him, forum users posting nasty things about him. He has finally come to his senses and realised that the majority of the people he shares his Custom firmware with aren't worth sharing with. As I have said before, a large majority of the Psp scene deserves nothing at all and they sure don't appreciate what they get. Well done those of you who put his work down and flamed him. Who needs Sony when the community does more to get rid of devs than they do.

Coding is hard. I've done it myself. And if the community I tried to help does what they are doing now - hell - I wont give a damn. it's sad. Not sad because becus25 is leaving. But sad to see the PSP community become so stupidly selfish and ungrateful. Think about it, nobody even cares if you used his own version of firmware or not. What matters is we have options. Now we lost one, we are having less of them. I can picture one day when all of the custom firmwares stopped being updated. All of us then will be begging for someone to code and reverse engineer the official firmware. I then imagine becus25 to laughing at us... at the crappy PSP community scene while he enjoys his own custom firmware that can do the latest things. Just wait and see people.... just wait and see... Thanks for all your work, becus25, though I have to admit that I never used your firmware, it's good to know that you contributed to the scene.

He has made Custom firmwares befor m33 did, he was the one that made a cf for 1.5, and their was people that used it, me for one, because it saves space on the flash drive. TEAM M33 SUx! k, Y does ANYONE need a 3.51 M-33 or 3.52 m-33?!! The only new feature in those firmwares is "security patch added." They haven't done ANYTHING. 3.40 OE is JUST as good as M-33's *****, except DAX at least didn't make like 10 additions. And DAX's cfws weren't spiked with glitches and bugs. And those b.itches diss anyone else who tries to improve their cfw. DAX nevr complained, and thats y the scene was doing so good back then. Now every good coder is leaving. Hmm last time i checked they got the code from their Custom firmware from DAX. Dont expect for their too be a downgrader anytime soon for the slims, it was DAX and Noobz who gave us those, m33 just took dax's code and put it in theirs. I really wouldve liked m33 if it wasnt for them starting this hate on one another. The psp community was so nice to each other before they started trash talking other coders. We expected too much of Becus25. He worked very hard and whenever he accomplished something, he gave it to the entire community. I wouldn't be surprised if he left because of all the hate. When you hate on someone like this, it drives away new potential coders. Why code and give to a community that's only going to hate. I'm surprised team M33 is still making firmware for the ungrateful pigs in the community that do nothing but complain. This is the PSP homebrew scene and these coders don't make programs because their obligated to, they code because they WANT to spend their precious spare time making something and giving it to you.

Hes been around since march and has released many firmwares before M33 came out. And m33 themselves stole their code from DAX. He didn't STEAL DAX's code. He added on to it and made it more useful. He successfully made a new custom firmware which has never been released before unlike becaus25 who only adds on to others custom firmwares. Who in the world would want TWO recoveries on an old version anyway when you can have the LATEST firmware from M33 and have cool new features. If DAX was here he'd be proud of M33, I know I am. I'd like becaus25 too IF he released his own custom firmware with USEFUL features.

So the guy left it isn't any big loss, he just added two or three lines of code to DA/M33 work and called it a custom firmware. Yes M33 did reverse engineer DA's firmware but what they did was akin to adding 200hp to a Lamborghini whereas Bacus25 just took the Lamborghini added a cup holder and calling it a Lamborghini cup holder edition. Oh and before someone says why don't you try and make a CFW before you put others down (which seems to be the easiest unthought out response). I would if I could think of anything useful to add the M33's 3.52 CFW but since it has everything I need already in it I don't see any point to messing with it.

And DAX would not be proud of them. He wanted coders to respect one another, and M33 cant even do that. And another thing is M33 didnt release a successful firmware. They may have released alot of updates, but whY? Because theyre previous versions werent perfected and had even bricked multiple psp's. I know at least 3-4 people from different forums who know theyre way around psp's and ***** like that, but M33 managed to brick it. Theyre firmware is full of bugs and they shouldnt release it until its perfected, like DAX did.

I agree M33 isn't nearly as great as DAX but it is better then anything else available. DAX quit, becaus25 only made addons to old firmware, M33 is making new firmware and new functions like DAX did and although it may be buggy they're atleast showing progress.

Becus25 made custom firmwares. It was for people who enjoyed 1.50. And the addons? Well what ever makes the firmware better I will take it. Frankly i wished he released more, as long as I get to max out my psp i have no problems with it. Only reason why Ive brought up DAX was because people that defend m33 and say becus stole from him, well they need to know it was m33 who stole from DAX. Becus25 was here first and m33 treated a developer who tried his hardest to make as many options for the psp like *****.

People M33 are *****.. becus firmwares were good and he only copyed parts of custom firmwares that wernt DAX in the first place... if u look the recovery for custom firmwares were not made by the person who made the custom firmwares M33 has the same recovery as DAX firmware anyway. just diff colours... Yes he did make that lame firmware but don't forget he had to update it a couple of times because "it cause bricks" If I recall DA or M33 didn't release any CFW that bricked any PSPs unless of course you didn't use it right.
M33 doesnt like to admit but I have been on many forums and m33 has apparently caused briken psp's. Becus admitted it while m33 brushed it off and pretended it never happened. Why do you think there are so many updates for the m33 custom firmware? Becuase its not ocmpleted. It is full of so many bugs and glitches its ridiculous. Where as becus and dax would wait to test their firmware and release it when it was ready m33 didnt. And yes becus did releas a bad firmware but it was an oversight, and he had apologized for it. Wheres m33's apology?

It's sad to see Becus leave. But I'll break it to you (from someone who knows his stuff) - Becus didn't have the skills to make a 3.5x custom firmware. I'd say if he kept at developing for a couple more YEARS, then he would. M33 are very talented. DAX would definitely be proud of their work. Realize that almost every M33 update has FIXED ISSUES THAT WERE PRESENT IN OE. They did not steal code or anything, there is no code out there to steal. DA did not release the code for OE, M33 reversed his work (which takes a considerable amount of ASM knowledge).
Leave the guy alone, he deserves some respect, for actually doing something for the homebrew community unlike the noobs who diss him. And as a side note, I'm sure somewhere I read becus52 instead of 25. Hmm.

All should do the following keep the psp you have as the Homebrew psp, then buy a psp slim when it comes out and that can be your official firmware psp, that way in the future when Homebrew is gone or screwed over you can still continue on with future enhancements with the psp slim that sony bring out.

Let me start with the following! 1 - No coder uses - unused coding 2 - Open source is well what it says OPEN What do I mean: Well take number 1 above, every code has code that has been used before, and has been writen by someone else to start of with! This means that every function has been writen by the creator of the said code, so does this mean using the creators code is stealing? No it means that with the functions he or she has provide you can program a said program using this functions to produce an outcome. Now take number 2 from above: If we take PHP as an example every PHP script in exsistance would be classed as having been stolen from someone else, why because the PHP open source is used around the world by every PHP coder, such as the MySQL database connection script or the IF / ELSE function. Personally I find that every thing one man / women creates another man / women is out to hack it, this is just the way in which the world works. Now onto the most important part of this: Fanjita used coding by RockStar to hack the PSP. Custom firmware was first mentioned by Madmatty (I think) and from that DAX used Offical firmware to create the custom firmware (which was said never to be possible). Becaus25 used DAX coding to produce his work. M33 reversed engineered DAX coding to produce their custom firmare, and I believe other coders are doing the same thing to produce more CFWs. M33 therefore have no right to flam anyone from adding anything to their firmware! My point being is that everyone uses everyone elses coding at some point in creating a program or script! Now I know I will be flammed to hell with this comment, but hey that again is the way of things, but before you do reply, just think who started this message who gave you the thought you now have in your head, yer it was me! I recently read a blog noting that M33 anonymous mostly because they have been working with sony and making money off of our custom scene...those bastards. They ran off DAX and Becus25. Well show them. LONG lIVE Da Hackers SCENE!
He won't release his sources, because other than "repackage OE/m33 firmware, hex-edit version" there would only be the simple source for that simple menu, which added no value at all. I'd love someone to do a binary diff over installed versions of the last IE vs. M33 to show exactly how much is "original". I think that anyone who ever tried his firmware jumped ship the first time something else came out. Prove me wrong - everyone that currently has IE on their PSP, respond to this message with why you use his version so that we can get a head count. I'm guessing it's somewhere less than six people total.

On topic, I personally didn't like what he was doing, seemed like a bit of a waste of time to me. But unlike most people, I actually am a coder(a bad one, but a coder nonetheless) and I know how hard it is. Especially in Windows. Had he continued, he may have become one of the greatest coders in the scene. He was obviously just making what he thought was a good addition to the psp, and he was constantly getting better at coding. He might have created ps2 emulation on the psp, or something else everyone wants. Just think about what everyone who shares my view on this site has said.

True comparison, DAX OE is like linux because it was open to the public and was just plain awesome. M33 is like Microsoft because they dont allow the community to contribute, they demand money, and their coding is flawed countless times. Becus was an a member who helped contribute to the linux, however, got his hand smacked for helping microsoft. I love how the name M33 actually reminds me of Microsoft, gotta love the big M there eh? Musta did it on purpose subconsciously, lol.

You are all heavily depending on coders who spend hours and hours of work to provide you with programs for your psp THAT THEY GIVE AWAY FOR FREE and then you start treating that code as if you paid 100's of dollars for it. Its ok to make comments about software but please keep it to positive criticism so developers learn from your comments and not be put down by it. Calling Becus's software useless and putting it out here as a direct attack to him just confirms that you have no brain. Yes, his software might be useless to you but it might be very useful to others. A dreamcast emulator for the pc is not exactly useful to me either All of you who give these stupid comments, breaking coders down are trashing the scene (if there is anything left at all) and in the long term you will be left with a Standard Sony Firmware, so please leave now so that the rest can still benefit from it. If I ever need a program that isn't here yet and I make it myself I'm sure as hell not gonna post it here and I guess you all made alot of people think this way.

becus25 should of had permission from m33 to ADD to their exsisting firmware people are saying m33 stole off DAX how so i havent seen a 3.51OE they reversed 3.40OE to get an idea then CREATED 3.51 m33 using what they learnt off DAX firmwares becus25 on the other hand will wait till the custom firmware is done ADD an extra recovery menu and call it his own you're an idiot if you cant or wont see that m33 did the hard yards becus25 waits till the work is done and then adds very little and calls it his own

It seems the good coders are all leaving, one by one, and I can't really say I blame them. It's a thankless job. You constantly have to deal with pressure from companies like Sony, and an ungrateful, whiny community with sub-standard intellect. You'd have to be a real glutton for punishment to stay, and I have a lot of respect for those who remain committed as well as those who choose to leave.

Goodbye. It sucks to see a coder leave the community. Kinda angry that he's leaving because every coder is important, but I'm sure he has his reasons. I wish him luck in his future projects, whatever they may be. (unless it's something that no one wants to see... like DRM... but I don't think he'd make something like that)
