Alek updates: on Datel's Battery and 88v3 IPL |
As anticipated - and warned - by Alek and the rest of the gang at the Dark_AleX forums, the oober-hyped Datel batteries, the "savior of the PSP 3K", turned out to be nothing more but that: oober-hyped.Says Alek (and we're quoting him verbatim lest there might be anything lost in translation),
... it's confirmed that this over exalted batter will leave 3K at least like the 88v3, just with a flashing light, a black screen and nothing but that LED indicator, as we announced.
Therefore, that (strange blue colored) battery won't work for you, instead "someone" makes a bypass for the preIPL thing that Dark_AleX explained [here]. (Considering that the preIPL on the 3K has the same security) Looks like D@tel was hoping that Dark_AleX hacked it, so only their battery could be available for the hacking process. Bad luck, guys.
Meanwhile, he also provides some updated on the 88v3 project:
Now onto the 88v3 IPL. You might remember [a] post from where part of the signing (there were 2 functions missing) was hacked from Brokencodes; so being as partial as it is, it would be interesting now to say, after reading about it on all the PSP-related webpages, that is NOT conclusive or definitely, so please, be aware that a "hack" for this couple of mobos might need further and longer study.

I think it will be interesting to watch the psp 3000's sales when there is finally a working hack. Chances are there would be a decent spike.
I personally found this funny, because Datel practically depended on Dark_AleX to find a way to hack the PSP 3000. Now if Dark_AleX can't find this hack the PSP 3000, then Datel may be sued by a lot of people finding that it doesn't work. Also, when Dark_AleX finds this out, he might rethink about looking for that exploit. Datel has been stealing sales for a long time now, and now they just got themselves in a bad position. Sweet, sweet karma.
Well this makes DA think about whether he should continue with his hacking so other major companies can benefit from them when it should be free.
I knew both sets of news had that 'too good to be true' sense to them. If anyone is going to hack 88v3 and/or 3000, it's going to be DAX and his crew.
Now the question for me returns to buying one of the last Slims on store shelves (hopefully 88v2 or earlier) as insurance against my aging phat, or hold out for a future hack.

does it get earlier boards into service mode as well

i actually like it that datel does this. Because if i wasnt able to hack my psp with the 3.50 downgrader way back when, i would probably buy one of these.

you could of hacked your PSP anytime you wanted without booting HEN mode
I think we need a statement from Datel about exactly what this device enables the PSP to do - I notice that they've changed the blurb on their website to remove any reference to installing CFW.
I think it's scandalous that they can sell a tool that relies entirely on the goodwill of the hacking community to have any worth whatsoever.
I highly doubt anyone can sue them (well, maybe except Sony). Can you imagine how that would look in court ? :)) Buying a "tool" used for modifying the Sony firmware signature... A tool which by the way, costs what ? $30 ? Suing someone for 30 bucks... Typically American ? ...
if his psp isn't hacked and he doesn't know anyone with a hacked psp, then how could he get a pandora battery without buying one.

i didnt know anyone with a hacked psp, so that was my only option, and if i would have been at 3.51 i wouldve bought a battery from datel.
