2D fighting engine ShugenDo for PSP in the works

ShugenDo, to those not familiar with it, is a 2D fighting engine for the PC. Homebrew developer Sakirsoft just announced on his website that he was finally able to port the engine to the PlayStation Portable. While the coder mentioned that the bin is not yet ready to be released in public, he uploaded a video clip as proof of concept.

According to Sakirsoft, he was able to compile the PSP Toolchain on the PC via cygwin. All samples are ready to be compiled and working but problems were encountered when he tried compiling the PSP-SDL lib on the PC. The developer assured the community as well that the main engine is working pretty fine and certain work needs to be done in the main menu.

No release date has been mentioned yet by Sakirsoft but we promised to give you an update regarding this WIP homebrew as soon as something develops. In the meanwhile, just check out the proof-of-concept video below.

Don't know if you've really done your homework or not, but this guy is also planning on a PS3 release via Linux.

I have a friend in RL that's starting on remaking some of the Shugen characters in HD. It's gonna be great stuff. Incase you don't know, it's also going to be made for the PC (Win XP/Vista/Linux). He said he also wouldn't mind porting it to other consoles/handhelds/devices if he thought it was possible, but obviously sakirsoft can only port it to so many things at once ;)

That's because those are the default characters that MUGEN comes with, It's fully customizable. Not only he will be a playable character

# RE: ShugenDoGuest 2007-06-01 14:33
Why not just port MUGEN? Whats the diff between ShugenDo and MUGEN if he just uses kfm still? Still, I cant wait, cuz I'm addicted to MUGEN. Brolly is too good, but I dont think he can beat April Fool's Day's Darkseid, or OMEGA Tom Hanks. Wifi or netplay would be nice, and if it could reuse MUGEN files: snd, sff, def, cfg, etc, that would be nice... Sakirsoft = SakirGOD!

Peace

SHUGENDO uses the same character data as M.U.G.E.N. but it is a more productive engine, notice how high kungfu man flew up in the air when he was hit in the video.......you cant do that in MUGEN but you can in SHUGENDO

# Oh, I totally agreeKichigai 2007-06-01 18:03
We've been seeing a nice wave of Ad Hoc compatible stuff out there. SMS/GG emulators, CPS/CPS2/VMS emulators, and I think there's an SNES one too. I only hope that he ports this to the DS and also enables ad hoc WiFi with PSP players. However, knowing how difficult it is to even conceptually build this stuff, I'm not going to hold my breath on anything cross-platform (which is sad, in my opinion)

# Well...Guest 2007-06-01 23:13
ShugenDo is also on PC and PS3, meaning all the characters can be used from one to the other with ease (which will include HD characters). Porting MUGEN to the PSP will mean a rebuild from the ground up... which is what ShugenDo is.

Mugen was originally made in DOS, you can't just port that stuff to the PSP with ease. ShugenDo is made in XP, and when Online Play is finally in, you'd probably be able to face guys on the PC with your PSP, or PS3, or whatever else.

I just recently (ie last month) got xmugen on my xbox and began to explore mugen for the psp. I found both this currently inactive project and a beta that came out a year ago and didn't allow any customization. I look very forward to the final release!

You forgot that Mugen has no available source code, and that the authors of Mugen disappeared 4 years ago.
