XviD4PSP

Homebrew developer, Winnydows, has notified us that he just came up with a v4.004 of his homebrew application -- the XviD4PSP. The app, in case you have no idea what in the world it does, could not only take your files and transform them to playable PSP files and PMP files but it could also input AVI, DIVX, and WMV formats and convert them to PMP 2.01, PMP AVC, AVI, MP4 (AVC), and MP4 (PSP AVC). Provided that you have AviSynth 2.5.6a and .Net Framework 2.0, you can convert videos for the PC as well.

In the last update (v4.003), some have been complaining through their comments that the app doesn't work properly. It's a good thing that the good developer reads your comments and has now unveiled the latest version, which we hope could solve all those errors and problems. So with that, let's see the changelog.

Changelog for v4.004:

*Fixed 2 pass divx encoding.
*For buttons Open, DVD, Save AVS, Save As now program remember different path.
*Added auto DVD search when button DVD pressed.
*Added titles and audio tracks selection for DVD and VOBs.
*Fixed autocrop again fixed.
*For DVD sound now extra%u0441ted with DGIndex.
*Add multi file join function.

And as always, your constructive criticisms, observations, and suggestions will really help improve the app and the developer's craft. So with that aptly stated, do not hesitate to let us know what you think through your comments.

Winnydows, you have previously asked me to send a small DVR-MS file. Where do you want me to send it?

Does this app also convert to dvd format? If not it would be nice if it did.

Anyway thanks for another great app. This is something else that adds great value to the homebrew community.

@Winnydows: how is the PSP AVC format supposed to be used? Your tool doesn't create the needed THM file and i couldn't find a method to make one on my own.

# why THM?Planet 2006-07-05 04:07
Because the PSP doesn't play the file without the accompanying THM file. I am talking about the official movie player (the one being part of the firmware). Thanks for evaluating the support, but i still wonder for what purpose you incorporated the format then.

I can perfectly understand PMP and PMP AVC, even AVI and MP4 (AVC) make sense along with PSPlayerMT. But how was MP4 (PSP AVC) supposed to be played?

THM file is a simple JPG picture 160x120 (72dpi). You can make screenshot and convert it.

I tried with a 160 * 120 PNG picture and it didn't work, gave me "incompatible data" just like without any THM file. So i figured the problem must lie in the thumbnail, maybe something went wrong with the clip itself... :|

Problem not in THM. Some files coverted and played, but some give "incompatible data". I try repair this error now.

With devhook in firmware 2.5 mode you can omit the THM file as well, sorry for my misconception. I downloaded some crap from yourpsp.com and tried without: it simply lacks the thumbnail shot, i thought it was obligatory.

Fixing that "incompatible data" bug would be very nice, i prefer your tool over PSPVideo9! :)

# ...extract sound..prhone 2006-07-05 09:25
I've been running the app. it seemed to convert the video okay on both passes, but it's been extracting sound for almost 2 hours now and counting. Is that supposed to happen?

# other formats to convert fromGuest 2006-07-05 10:32

# a bit too hasty...prhone 2006-07-05 11:15
The second attempt I made to convert a video actually worked and the sound extraction (or whatever) was running normally. However, averything stopped and a message "Stopped By Hand" was displayed. I saw that there was a video ready to copy to my psp, but it reads as an "unsupported format." Ofcourse, It wouldn't play.

Can you offer any help concerning this?

Thanks, Winnydows.

Now write and test encoding in 4.005. Found many bugs in 4.004. Most I fix, but not all. Wait new version.
