Xandu's Media Player 2 Beta - Image 1

Music fans, unite! Xandu has released an alternative to your everyday PSP music player in the form of Xandu's Media Player 2 Beta v1.1, otherwise known as XMP. As Xandu explains in his readme, XMP 2 Beta v1.1 was designed to make your PSP look like an iPod and carry similar functions.

Here are some of XMP's features:
  • Supported formats: MP3, WAV, MOD, S3M, IT and more!
  • iPod graphics (including animated songbar)
  • iPod clickwheel using analog
  • Mp3 streaming (which means you can load up huge sized Mp3s)
  • Music Quiz
  • Album Art
  • ID3 tags
  • iTunes friendly (song info)
  • Lyrics functional
Seeing as this is a beta though, the forum thread on DCEmu notes some bugs that are currently plaguing this version of the player. These will be fixed in a future release, though some problems can be solved by checking the troubleshooting section in the included user's manual. If you like what you see though, make sure to vote for Xandu's application at the GBAX 2007 competition, which is linked on the Xandu's post over at the forums. Enjoy!

Nice Start!

I've had the program crash a couple of times in the music library, and a few little glitches with individual songs, but this is a fantastic start! Some feature requests: 1) Scroll by entire pages in library 2) Shuffle Mode Wonderful start though - I'm glad to see something with support for album art! This has my vote - on my way as I type this! Thanks! --Databoy2k

Help is here.

First of all, you need a firmware that supports Homebrew, ie: 1.50, or any of Dark-Alex's CFW like the OE series. then, extract the rar file on the computer using a program like WINRAR (works like WINZIP), and the folders you extracted, copy them to the folder on your "duo" called "game". You should be able to run it now. good luck

Wow

Look in "System Settings" in the XMB. Wow, this is a good start. Great idea.

xmb

what is XMB? where do i find?
by - 2007-07-10 08:44:55
XMB is

your psp's menu where you can see videos or listen to music
by Jx1 - 2007-07-10 08:46:48
XMB

XMB is the interface of the PSP. when you turn on the PSP without a game in it, the XMB (interface pops up) go to System Settings, then to System Version. If you're new to this, then I'm pretty sure you have a newer PSP. Good look, shall check back here in 15

Same Here!

I would also like it to have those features if possible!!!

....

that's nice but I haven't seen any release of it. I have seen a release of XMP.

Good idea! need some work.

I love the program but still needs some work. I haven't tried the lyrics out yet but here's some of the problems I'm having: 1. When I go too play a song it makes weird noises (crackling, squeaking, beeping) before it starts playing the song. 2. ID3 2.3 tags don't seem to work. I convert the song to v1.0 but then iTunes removes the album art. When I put the album art back in iTunes converts it to a newer version tag. 3. I haven't been able to get any album artwork to show. 4. Sometimes the ID3 tag info doesn't show. It just shows the file name. 5. It has trouble playing files in the subfolders of the Music folders. There's some more problems I have had but that's what I can remember right off. Those were the ones that seemed most important. Here's a list of feature requests: 1. More like an iPod where you can browse by artist, album, etc. 2. Better ID3 tag support. 3. More file formats supported like AAC 4. Where you can look in subfolders without glitches (that's how I organize my music. Wouldn't need feature request one if this worked) 5. Keep Up the Good Work!!! I'm running Firmware 3.40 OE-A and I tried it in both 1.50 and 3.40 Kernel modes. Thanks, Benjaguy

one more thing:

one more thing I remember I had trouble with was the progress bar. Some times it wouldn't show the correct song time. sometimes it would show a song to be 7:00 and sometimes it would show 1:19. And one more request is to be able to Fast forward and Rewind and maybe "go to" to be able to go to a certain part in a song. If you could turn this into a full fledged working media player (videos, music, pics, etc.) it would be the best. I probably wouldn't even use my XMB.

Nice

This looks promising. Very feature-rich and a good idea. Reminds me of the ipod homebrew for DS. This seems to have some nice format support and I wanna try that music quiz. Just needs some touching up on the visual presentation.

ipod!

This looks awesome, but it definitely needs the sorting like the ipod.
by - 2007-07-11 08:31:17
it's a good start

the fonts should be a little smoother and there should be better organizational features, possibly by id3 tags like the ipod (ie browse by artist, album, genre, etc.) other than that it looks promising.
by Travisweet3 - 2007-07-11 08:33:56
