For those who have been waiting for the update of Xandu's Media Player 2 (XMP2), you're in luck. The homebrew developer has just released the latest version for the PlayStation Portable music player.
If you aren't familiar with this particular homebrew app, here's a bit of a primer. XMP 2 is a media player that has a iPod-ish interface. It sports .mp3, .wav, IT, MOD and S3M playback, plus a lot more. In this release, Beta v1.2B, the developer was able to work out the various kinks and bugs from the previous releases.
Anyway, here's the changelog:
- Font finally polished, XMP looks better now.
- The "weird" noises before playing reduced.
- The back bug that happened when you go back to the library.
- Play/Pause icons now look better.
- Scroll bar doesn't overlap the battery.
- Folder bug now fixed, all folders work.
- Analog in other menus now works.
- Music Quiz updated (now views score)
- Shuffle feature added BETA.
Anyway, go ahead and download the app, though make sure you read the nifty user manual that goes with the file. Enjoy!

A few users seem to confirm it working but as per usual, only try such releases at your own risk. I like the simplicity of the GUI... but I need the ability to delete the files and it would be great to be able to play more file music formats (ex. mid and xm) like Game Music Gear 0.10... and if add MP4 and AVI/DIVX like PDVX 0.6 would rock!!!

This makes me really excited, especially now that I just got the money to get my PSP. Seriously my friend told me about this site that pays you to register to free sites and to complete surveys. Come on People. This is a comment section for XMP NOT Custom Firmware! Thanks Xandu for the release. I can't wait to try it out. I'm glad to hear the "weird" noises are reduced. I can't wait for the next release. Keep up the good work. I'll comment later after I try it and let you know how I like it, what's going on etc. From the list of updates though it sounds like you actually read my feedback!
I tried it out a little bit. It's better than the v1.1 that's for sure. I was finally able to get one album cover to show. And I still can't get any lyrics to show. I press the button and nothing happens. also another thing I'm having trouble with is when I press the "Home" button and click yes it's like it's having trouble closing. A screen pops up with some code on it then it closes. If you could make it support ID3 tags v2.x it would make this app even better! The weird sounds are better but I still get them a couple times. Thanks Xandu! Keep up the good work!
hey i have v1.2 and i was wondering how to get music to play through the interface. i have it on my psp but i cant connect my psp to itunes to be able to put music onto it. i'm not sure how to be able to listen to music, so any help would be appreciated
