In our PSP homebrew community, we've got lots of regulars that keep coming back with frequent updates and development notes for their projects. Naturally, once you've created your first homebrew, you'd feel proud of it just as if you were its father. One of those homebrew regulars who's continuously been supporting his baby is Art.

His X-Flash homebrew application has gotten more than a handful of updates and changes, and today, there's more. If you've been living under a rock for the past few months, you might be asking what the hell this app does. The long and short of it is that it helps you tweak and mod your PSP firmware easily.

For X-Flash v17d, he remarks that the "space remaining" number is taken from subtracting the amount of space used from 24MB. While that might be a bit too generous, he says that it should do for now, until he could create a new algorithm to estimate the remaining free space. Here's what's new for X-Flash V17d:
  • Added some sound enhancements, and some new higher quality sound effects.
  • A warning screen displayed for incorrect registry version, X-Flash program no longer terminates for this reason.
Art was even cool enough to post this demo video (complete with quirky intro):

X-Flash

is a flashing application strictly for firmware versions 1.5 and 2.71 SE-C. NO it won't work on 2.80 or any other firmware. X-Flash is used for changing your Gameboot (small video that appears when you load an UMD or a game), font type, Coldboot sound (the sound your hear when you turn on a completely turned off PSP), the original PSP backgrounds, change the menu display names, among many other firmware flashing things.
