Coming Soon becomes Out Now! Art has finally posted his X-Flash V16, now with limited support for 2.71 SE-B. SE-B users rejoice! You can enjoy all the benefits of X-Flash V16 as you did with older firmware. Well, this official release contains the features (and disables) that Art had talked about in his Coming Soon post, plus a couple of new ones you should go check. We're posting the pertinent details Art has posted on his site for you to review.
New for X-Flash V16:
- Dual Firmware Support.
- The same program runs on 1.50 and 2.71 SE, and behaves accordingly after the PSP firmware version is auto detected at startup.
- Limited support is provided for 2.71 SE.
- Faster startup checking, and other small fixes.
- Disable Wave Effect (disables wave effect properly, so you don't even see it for that second while your wallpaper loads)
- Custom Monthly Backgrounds, including Plain Black Backgrounds.
- Custom Font (sample font included is now the ASCII font).
- Disable Network Update Icon functionality.
- Custom Name Plate picture (Easter Egg "Art" name plate is disabled in 2.71 SE since only basic pictures work).
- Firmware Dump (At least 21 Mb free space required for 2.71 SE).
- Registry Backup and Restore Tool.
- Custom Gameboots (Plain black gameboot doesn't currently work).
- Free Space game works. I may have to work on a new prize ;)
- Debranded intro and gameboot screens (may get fixed).
- XMB Menu Label editor.
- Firmware Version Spoofers.
- Coldboot and XMB sounds (may be fixed in a later version).
- Plain Black PSP About Screens.
- Some Easter Eggs won't work because they rely on version spoofs, detailed name plate picture, etc.

It's a portable console by the Korean company Gamepark Holdings which is designed almost specifically for homebrew and emulators. It runs Linux, has a 200Mhz dual core ARM9 CPU, 64MB RAM, SD card support. It can emulate Amiga, Atari ST, various old computers from the 80s, 68K Macs, SNES, PSX, NES, Genesis, Master System/Gamegear, Neo Geo, MAME, Gameboy, GBA is in progress, and some other more obscure consoles. It can run some older games like Descent, Quake, Duke3D, Marathon, Hexen, Doom, Ultima 7, SCUMM games like Monkey Island and The Dig, Flashback, Another World, Rise of the Triad, Wolfenstein 3D, Shadow Warrior, Star Control 2, and some old Commander Keen games. And it's got Payback, which is the first fully 3D rendered game on a handheld to have HDR lighting.
Here is a list of the emulators http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/Emulation_Speculation

We seem to do fine with it, but that's because we have all that documentation on it that you don't. And as for speeding up the drawing of 3D things, 3D is not what the GP2X is for, it is for emulation. Although it can do 3D, as seen in Payback, which has HDR lighting even.
some of us don't really find the games on the PSP all too enticing, what with the GTA remakes and console ports...

don't really want a PSP, if I got a handheld for commercial games it would be the DS. I got the GP2X because I like Genesis, SNES, Amiga, and Atari ST games, not because I want to play yet another iteration of GTA3, or yet another MGS game. Sure, I know you don't have to pay for games, but that's piracy, and you're really screwing over the developers by doing that... If you are ok with that, then continue on, just expect to put more good companies out of business like Troika, Black Isle Studios and Looking Glass Studios, which means less good games and more crappy ones by EA.
