X-Flash v11c

Art from our forums has released an updated version of his excellent X-Flash homebrew firmware modification tool for the PSP. X-Flash can be used (carefully) to alter and create custom firmware for your beloved PSP. You should not use X-Flash, nor any other program that writes to the Flash of the PSP if you do not know exactly what you are doing or are ready to accept complete failure (in the form of a bricked PSP). However, If you brick your PSP with X-flash, there is the possibility of unbricking it with Dark_Alex's Custom Firmware modification in Recovery mode.

Here's whats new for X-Flash v11c:
  • Support for Dark_AleX Custom Firmware modification. This version does not yet have the capability to reverse the mod, but this (and more) will be implemented shortly. Flash writing is verified. The video below shows this in practice.

Also, the Easter egg has been found by Zoltrix, check page 69 of the forum release thread to find out what it is. Art is currently working on X-Flash v12 for us that will implement support for applying Dark_AleX's latest custom firmware mod and reversal of it, complete with configurator. Even later version of X-Flash will include Freeplay & Fluff's Name Plate picture mod in the PSP's about screen and an arcade game style letter rotator for entering any words to be used as names for Music, Photo, Video, and Game icons.

So...

with this, you dont need to use custom firmware, just use this and it will allow some features without actually having to install Dark_Alex's custom firmware?

NICE

Coolio Art!!!!! I just applied the custom firmware, you and Dark_alex are a great team. Keep up the fine werk. To think when X-Flash first came out, I thought it was going to have maybe two or three updates to it. I never thought it was going to go this far and advanced! Keep 'em coming!!!

Bricker

I still wouldn't recommend people using this app unless they know what they are doing - this has bricked more psps than anything else. Maybe the custom firmware recovery option will help to reverse this trend though :)

This App.

I've recently dL the newest Devhook .44, and with it, was (I guess) a custom 2.71 fw dump that botted by some british lady saying "playstation portable" and the death screen from PoP with PSP across the middle. Now my question is, was this Firmware most likely made with this Application????

No, there is a way to change the gameboot and coldboot without X-Flash, but it's more dangerous. X-Flash can change the gameboot and coldboot safer than if you were to do it.

They simply copied the modified gameboot into the flash0 folder of devhook, its very easy. Now in this video I assume he holds his thumb up because it didnt auto launch the umd????

hmmm so this would be ideal to use with th UP chip!?!? So you can F**k about as much as you like and if you brick it then you can reflash it!? Am I right or am I wrong?
