Virtual Tape Recorder updated to v5b |
Ó
This homebrew application from Art is steadily becoming one of the most used applications in the scene. His Virtual Tape Recorder application for the PSP does exactly what it says, which is recording your voice input using a PSP-compatible microphone such as the SOCOM headset or Art's Nokia Boom Headset modification, and then saves it as a Microsoft-compliant wave file for playback in Windows Media Player. This version adds even more recording space with the virtual reel buffer being extended to 22 Mb. Here's the changelog:
- Increased virtual reel buffer to 22 Mb, which provides more recording time for every sample rate.
- Implemented MPH's free RAM display at startup to keep track of RAM consumption during development.
- Added a visible VOX sensitivity indicator, and the vox sensitivity is now adjustable.
- Fixed voice activation routine to scan the wave for peaks so the VOX indicator can work properly.
- Other small fixes, and code optimisations.
- Added demonstration eboot sound.

cool
I was just wondering, could there be a way to use a headphone wire and the headset connector for this. I was thinking that maybe I could use my walk-man for the source instead of voice? Just a thought
I love this app because I'm a writer and musician and this allows me to capture ideas on the go.
My only suggestions:
Ajustable reel size. I have a 4gig stick and it would be sweet to be able to set the reel size much bigger.
Recording with effects. this would be cool just for fun.
Also to let everyone know, I use the sony psp headset that I got at Best buy for 20 bucks. I wasn't sure if it would work but it does! So check that out if you cant get a socom headset.
Thanks again for the great app, I definatly use it!
Hi,
The Socom headset IS the PSP headset to the best of my knowledge..
(Model: PSP 270 x).
The mic outperforms other simple microphones somehow.
The reel size is dependent on the PSP's RAM at the moment, not the ms size. I still haven't tried too much writing
to ms on the fly bcs I'm more interested in speech analysis, recognition, etc..
I have a YakBack emulator ready for V2c.
It's pretty cool :)
i use this app a a voice recorder for my beatboxes and lyrical flows that pop into my head while im walking or driving or away from the computer at the moment..
ART! you rock in my book, because i was going to buy a standalone voice recorder..
thankz bro!
keep on updating, we love it.
