ZKL54 gave us word of a new modification for 3.10 OE-A that's useful out there for those folks who always worry about space constraints. Smashly's USB Mod v4b for 3.10 OE-A will actually help you save on space on your memory stick by enabling you to stream files from your PC via the USB.According to the developer, this is actually an unofficial update of TheBuzzer's modification for SE-C. If you remember him, he also made a useful and rather prolific application known as the GUI DEVHOOK Launcher, so you can bet that this little modification's base programming came from a great app maker.
Of course, using this might sound like a bit of a hassle, since the main reason you probably use the PopStation is to play on the go. Despite this, USB Mod may save you a lot of trouble when it comes to accessing certain files on the fly, though we wonder just how well this would work with PopStation.
That being said, remember to check the readme for instructions so you don't muck up your PC or your PSP, grab a long USB cable, and see what magic you can make with this little app.

Used PSPHost and turn on USB, USB folder is a folder called "PSP" on my Desktop. Inside that I have another folder called PSP and inside that GAME and inside that some apps and stuff but none show up?
Only works with ISOs.
found a plugin from another site for 3.03 oe. It worked, but it was kinda dodgey at times, hopefully this works better. Will give it a go. Cheers.

Nevermind the ISOs and what not... This is great for testing your programs... no more switching back and forth between USB mode on/off... just test your homebrew straight from the PC, as soon as you compile it :)
mine stays on a black screen when i boot my games from my pc is this happening to anyone else?

I have successfully installed everything without a brick, but now I'm stuck. Could someone please tell me where I put ISOs etc. on my PC, to play them via USB. Thanks.
If you have USBHostfs (which you need) then inside that folder create a folder called ISO. Put your iso's in there.

I've created an ISO folder inside the USBHostfs folder, but my TDU ISO won't show up. +0(
Verify all the plugins are enabled, then when you get to the xmb, hold the square button. On the nethostfs screen you should see a connecting text. Then go to saved games on your PSP to refresh your game folder (quirky step, but you have to do it) then go back to games and you should be set.
Has anyone tried this for 310-OEA2 yet? Does it work?
remember, if u cant se icons it means its on wrong mode.
i.e....if u cant see your mem sticks iso it means your in usbhost mode, press squaer & go into save data tab, thatll refresh your game folders icons, works perfec for me justy takes a while to log all isos & icons.

Can someone here give me a link to a download for the USBHostFS Type B TA-082 fix. Without it i can't use USBHostFS.
I downloaded the mod and it would appear the plugins are named differently as described in the README and are faulty. I downloaded from the original host "XMB" and found the plugins to be named and functioning correctly.
I have a TA-082mb with the USBFIX

Sorry axelixc, you should do research before you spout off.
This is an old version of usbhostfs and may not work with this plugin. It should, though, as I doubt the protocol has changed any since then. If it doesn't, I'm sure it won't be long before someone realizes and fixes it. There's also a Linux one out there somewhere as well, but I didn't bother searching for it.
the psp usb port cannot receive a device like dvd, hd or other psp just because the firnware would have to be modified as the psp was only made to connect itself to a device.....not get info from a device.....were still lucky to have those ones working......reallly impress great job !!
it never said it worked only for iso......try some homebrews ..
i used this with a ots of isos and its way better than on memory stick and is never to compare with umd drives speed......
I'll finally be able to use PopStation with my 32mb stick. Only problem is, I can't update to 3.10 OE-A because the dxar doesn't fit.
It also needs flashing systemctrl and vshctrl. I've heard that you can't run programs using recovery but you can still reflash the old systemctrl to unbrick. If you mess up the flashing, can you still recover?
Your best bet is to find someone who will make the DXAR for you, or make it through USBHOST and Irshell, like I did.
I'm trying to get this running with OS X (using the USBHOSTFS for Mac OSX v0.02B and PrometeusPro) and was wondering: the "PC Drivers" listed as downloads above... Are they essential? What do they do?
As far as I can see, what I need to do is install USB Mod v4b for 3.10 on the PSP, run the USBHOSTFS on my Mac, run Prometeus and then run the USB Mod on the PSP... and everything should work?
Or should I just hold off for now?

Everything works from the usbhost(PC) to the loading of iso. Can list all the games but when run the game it goes back to xmb and shows [The game could not be started (80020321) ]. Did any1 get this? or is it just me ;"[

i set it up and when i try runing this all the files including iso's dont work they just show up as corrupt anyone gotta a fix for problem?

of available isos in the pcs iso folder show up where you can scroll through them from the game folder on the xmb, or do you use the home+ L n R buttons to scroll through games like on devhook hybrid? for isos that require 3.11+? s vs. r 2007?

They show up in the xmb game folder as if they were on the ms.
does anybody know if this works with 3.03 OE-C? i dont want to upgrade to 3.10 cuz im using the bogus firmware files..If i doesnt can somebody point me in the direction of one that will work for my firmware?

Nice job on creating this app, but this one needs to write to flash in order to work. Here is another way that will do what this app does without writing to flash. (only Isos/csos)

Using this way, you don't need to write to flash, BUT it can only access isos.
~This way(brief summary)
PRO:easy to enable and disable. (in xmb)
CON:writes to flash (dangerous for those that don't know much about the psp, etc)
~The other way in the link
PRO:doesn't write to flash
CON:not so easy to enable and disable (in recovery menu), can't toggle usb when plugins are enabled and will crash when plugins are on but with no usb connected (for now)
Both need some trial and error in order to get them working. (unless you really know about the psp or you're lucky)
BTW, I just use irshell to access homebrew through my usb although this way seems easier.......(excpet for the flash)
I created a ISO folder next to the usbhostfs and it says connected to device. however, it only show my memory stick iso.
going to the link they got this file from they have 3.03 OE-C USBHost PRX for download, why QJ only decided to annouce it was for 3.10 blows my mind. THANKS QJ!!

My very first brick! LOL I did everything that it said, but now I am faced with a shiny brick. I reflashed the "Backups" that he included, and yet those didn't help either. Well, if all else, I am a proud 3.10 OE-A user (after all, it's required to install this) and so I can "Recover" as is the purpose of the "Recovery Menu".
Just a warning.
I noticed, before I ran the recovery, that irsmp3.prx was also enabled for VHS. This was causing the refusal to startup. So, if anyone uses the mp3 plugin, that must be disabled to use this.
Ive tried using the 3.03oec version of this and can get it to work fine on 512mcard but wont work with hdd have formatted both and tried still no go. :( Any one else with a hdd got this to work?

every time i run usbhostfs and plug my usb, it gives me “error, invalid magic 4F53492Fâ€. how can i fix this??

is there supposed to be a FLASH0 folder in the "kn" folder on the memmorystick? like X:\kn\FLASH0\*.prx
or am i supposed just to copy the .prx files in the kn folder (without FLASH0 folder) like X:\kn\*.prx?

yea, so i did everything it says, i start up the usbhostfs, and that simply opens a dos window saying USBhostFS Tyranid 2k6. I then hold square, hear the usual connecting to device via usb sound and my computer says it found it, installed the drivers, and then the dos window says connected. that's it. what am i missing here?
oh and nothing shows up in my connected devices under my computer, so not sure how i'm supposed to transfer files.
you need to make an ISO folder in the same folder as your usbhostfs file. go to "game" on your psp and hold square button for a few seconds. then open your game folder and your games should show up. if they don't then try going to your game saves then go back to your games. that should refresh the list.
so you're saying, first start the .exe on my comp, then go to usb mode on my psp, then hit square? so i tried that, and as soon as it said connected in the dos window, it disconnected me from usb mode so i couldnt see the psp's memory stick. it doesnt show up as an external device when i have it connected by pressing square
you are not supposed to go into usb mode. did you follow the instructions that came with it? if so next... you need to have usbhostfs started up. then go to "game" then "memory stick" (do not select it, just highlight it) then press and hold the square for a few seconds. then slect "memory stick" on your psp and the iso should show up in the list. if not then select "saved data utility" next go back and select "memory stick". that should refresh the game list. this program is for playing games that are saved on your pc harddrive using the usb cable.
i have had this mod for a while now, its a great app if you want to see 100+ games in you xmb :P... qj i never thought id say this.... get with the times!
yea, so my problem is that when i open the usbhostfs and connect by pressing the square on my psp, my psp doesnt show up on my computer. it says connected in the usbhostfs window, but my computer cant find it, even though i told it to use the drivers that came with the program.
if you have a ta-082mb it is important that you use the USB type B fix for ta-082 (google it, easy to find) a non ta-082 or fixed ta-082 is also required for the fix. Something to do with an idstorage change resulting from the 2.71 downgrader. Without the type B fix for USB your ta-082 will not function with this mod. once you have successfully installed the fix your ta-082 will function like any other psp. Regarding the download, I downloaded this file from QJ shortly after it was posted. I found however that the files contained different files than those described in the readme, namely several plugins. I proceeded anyway and found the plugins to be non operational. I then went to the "XMB-PSP" link provided in the main story and downloaded the original mod. All files were named currently re: README, I installed them as per instructions and it works fine. If you still have probs after this I would imagine it would be the PC end at fault.

Many of the problems people are talking about are symptoms I encountered before using the USB Type B Fix. This mod or any similar application that requires the psp to read via USB (eg: Camera, GPS) WILL NOT WORK without the fix. It was covered on QJ net forums but to be honest the article was a useless piece of ***** with references to ninjas and robots or some such crap. discerning actual information from it proved difficult. There are other sources out there but I am not sure if I am allowed to quote other websites. so let google be your friend.

i am confuse on the flash 0 folder..
It loads in a different mode, thats why you need the driver. If you have ISO's in an ISO folder inside the usbhostfs folder, then once you activate this the iso's should show in game -> Memory Stick
went to some other language sites and figured it out.

anyways, instead of this app, ive already installed USBMOUNT 1.03 on my psp 3.03oe_C and PSPHost 2.0 on my PC which both worked great and i can now play all my ISO games on PC via USB connection. it works on every OE firmware, if you want this file and instruction just post a request on my own forums at http://sw2.2ya.com

For those who have same problem with mine like above mentioned. u need to disable the No-UMD in config @ Recovery Mode.
unbelieveble. you're NOT supposed to just transfer files over to your psp from your pc. IF you needed to do that, just use toggle the usb from the xmb without this. THIS APP/plugin allows you to play isos and hombrew on your psp with the ACTUAL file on your COMPUTER, without having to transfer the file over to your psp.
After you have "(warhamster) I then hold square, hear the usual connecting to device via usb sound and my computer says it found it, installed the drivers, and then the dos window says connected. that's it. " that, you just go into your game folder ON YOUR PSP and you should see your stuff there when the actual file is really on your computer.
You need to follow the instructions and comments to make a folder with the name "iso" in the same folder as your usbhost.
:REPEAT: after all that, GO ONTO YOUR PSP,(make sure that the usb is connected between the psp and the computer), and in the xmb, go to the game folder and you should see all your stuff.
(BTW, i prefer using psphost than just usbhost all by itself. Psp host has a better interface and doesn't need the iso and whatever file to be in the same folder as the usbhost)
(psphost is a windows app that has usbhost, etc built in it)
if you're confused, than stop right now. You have a high chance of breaking your psp if you don't know much about it and how it works internally.
The last option. The kn directory is inside the flash0 memory. You need to copy the files over the existing ones. Make a backup of the old ones first!!!

i have my umd in and still , it say the samething ?(the game could not be started....) i have ta082 but i dont think i need the fix or wateever because i bought it on 1.5 and upgrade to 3.03 oe then 3.10 oe ,please help
alright thanks, i was confused reading the readme, it doesnt really clarify it too well. it could definitely be more clear after it instructs you on how to actually install it on your psp. thanks for the help either way though.
so close yet so far away. now in the dos window, after it says connected to device i refresh the memory stick, but when i try to go to the memory stick root, it simply loads the files that are normally on the ms, and in usbhostfs program states "Error invalid file id in close command (11)" yes, i have a folder called iso in the same folder as the usbhostfs exe, and yes, the iso is in there. i'm at a block, would the fact that it's a playstation game make a difference? is there any way for it to detect eboots as well, because the eboot version of the game does not work either. le sigh
Guys you need to turn off no umd mode and have a umd in the drive before this will work

i had this a couple of times and found that, if you go to recovery mode, then to configuration, than make sure the 'use NO-UMD' is set to Disabled, the games should start now

Get a repeated activation and deactivation of libUSB PSP Type B driver when trying to mount viewed iso, and of cource it fails.... am ablie to USBHOST FS the DAXDumper directly so don't understand what is making it unstable.
