UPDATE: TA-082 Downgrader a fake, says Dark_AleX

UPDATE: Just as the title says, Dark_Alex claims that the recently released TA-082 downgrader is a fake. Chatting with jas0nuk (thanks for the heads up!), DAX mentioned a couple of reasons as to why he thought this release is not a legitimate one: "eloader don't load prxs", "the text file with keys that it generates don't seem to be used at all", "the person that creates it is not very reliable", and - probably the clincher - "the first result in google of him: a virus page".

Now, Dark_Alex is Dark_Alex and his word is always taken for the truth. TA-082 users have been waiting for this downgrader for such a loooong time now that we won't blame them if this time they take DAX's word with a grain of salt and scamper to try out this downgrader. But in the words of QJ blogger Pranav, "we don't want to be part of the confusion" and also since we don't wanna take part in you guys bricking PSPs, we decided to take down the file.

Now, we have warned you: This downgrader is a fake. If anyone does decide to go somewhere else for the files, you're doing so at your own risk.

As some of you in the forums have noted, ChaosZero of PSP HaXors wrote about the release of a TA-082 PSP downgrader for people to use. Made by dark_thug, he notes that with the proper additional software, TA-082 units with 2.50, 2.60 and 2.71 firmware types can now switch downgrade to 1.50 or 2.71 SE-C.

Now, on to the tough bits of this little article. There are a lot of warnings that need to be given in case you feel the urge to use this app. Here's the combined weight of PSP HaXors warnings and our own:

Some games will lock up in 2.71 SE-C.
On 1.50, trying to change settings menu gives a Blue Screen of Death. You won't be able to change your Video Options, System Settings, etc.
On a brighter note, the BSoD could theoretically be fixed, using an app like X-Flash to flash a new system reg from a 1.50 user! Or, while making the dump, switch the 2.50 reg with the 1.50 reg. This is risky however.
The TA-082 Boards can also be downgraded to 2.71 SE-C! The BSoD will be gone. The catch again, you may not be able to return (to 1.50). If you can, it will most likely use the same update made to downgrade from 2.50. That still has not been tested.
Using this to downgrade to either 1.50 or SE-C leaves you with that particular state. Attempting to upgrade, according to 0okm, will most likely brick your PSP so you probably shouldn't try it.
We haven't tested this on our unit, so you'll be attempting this at your own risk. Make sure you know what you're doing before you try it out.

In any case, we wish you all the best of luck. Again, make sure you know what you're doing or you might lose your PSP. Feel free to check back on this article or on our forums for more information, as we're pretty sure everyone watches each other's backs in the homebrew scene. Take care!

This is awesome. I just bought a PSP for my little brother; TA-082 with 2.71 firmware. Can't wait to see if this works.

Now all we need is a 2.8+ downgrader for my cousins and we'll have ourselves a Liberty City Stories party. =)

Yea, definitely not worth the risk, but it is a first step. Hopefully in the future it will become more reliable. It would also be nice if you didn't risk bricking your psp after you performed the softdown.

Before running the downgrader, Restore the PSP's System Settings to Default.

personally, i own a psp without a TA-082 Mobo, running 2.71se-c and im fine with it, but ive wanted a second one, just to try some mods with. i was afraid of buying one, and getting a TA-082 motherboard, so i didnt bother. im no9t really afraid to buy one now, but of course ll lat this app mature into something even better before i use it.

Getting my TA-082 to emulate 1.50 + 3.2 took me a few days but it was fun learning new things in it.... now is just a breeze learning other new stuff.... If you didn't take the time to learn how then you are just plain lazy.

Is it just me or does this downgrader seem un-needed, not in anyway trying to insult the programer. But im a 2.71 ta-082 user and my psp does everything a 1.50 can do. I can emulate 1.50 anytime i want to and emulate 3.01 anytime I want to. So is there really any reason to risk a brick and maybe a psp that doesn't function 100%? For all you out there that just do things without knowing the details, please do not use this downgrader, you will virtually regret it and I can bet on it.

i am referring to the downgrader 0okm was said to have made. although it was a daunting task and required a lot of time to do each psp. and he did not want the source of anything leaked, so required an isp email address. therefore, everyone flipped out about it.

i was saying maybe if people trusted him we wouldn't have to deal with this fake. duh.

I would listen to Dark_Alex. He is really the only developer who has done alot for anyone with a newer(ta-082 psp). I have 2 psp's 1 is Ta-082 I'd luv to get 1.5 on it without emu. For now DAX's devhook port for HEN-D does everything I need on a second PSP.

downgraders don't just "come out", a whole new exploit to access and modify the flash will have to be found for 2.8, tiff doesn't allow full kernel access.

Get a downgradable psp on Ebay, or wait for future exploits that may or may not ever be found. Try getting one with a cracked screen with older firmware if you can replace parts, their ya go:)

2.81 crack it come on lads. i hope somone cracks it soon. had 2.71 fw with t082 had it for months waiting to be cracked. brother bought me ape escape 2 for chritmas and installed it on my psp with 2.81 fw SAY NO MORE
