PSPComic was created by Arcahemic and Kip - Image 1

QJ.Net Forum member Archaemic dropped by today and released a new version of his pet homebrew application, PSPComic. As always, it was created with the help of coder Kip. In a nut shell, this program allows users to read various magazines and comics on their PlayStation Portable (PSP).

Take note that to be able to access your files, they should be in .CBZ and/or .CBR format. PSPComic should be run using FW 1.5, any custom firmware, or any other firmware that is capable of emulating FW 1.5 through DevHook. Currently in version 0.9.7, the changes and improvements to PSPComic are:
  • [Feature] Configuration file is now XML
  • [Feature] New manga mode, which makes comics start from the right instead of from the left
  • [Feature] Menu now shows current state of toggable items
  • [Feature] New battery meter shows remaining battery percentage in the menu. If the text is red, the battery is low. If it is yellow, the power is plugged in.
  • [Feature] The clock frequency menu now allows any value between 20 MHz and 333 MHz to be selected
  • [Feature] Bookmarks have been added. For more information, please see the menu options section
  • [Feature] 8-bit images now support re-sampling
  • [Bugfix] Fixed scrolling bug, which made the program stop scrolling after some time with the D-Pad
  • [Bugfix] Removing an open RAR or CBR file while the program is using that file will no longer cause a crash when the page is changed.
  • Sped up re-sampling
  • And many more minor changes
To those of you who are wondering about the zoom box and pre-caching, Archaemic mentioned that they should be included in the next release, as the two features need a lot of work (large internal reimplementation for the zoom box and advanced threading for pre-caching).

Update: Homebrew developer Archaemic recently updated his PSPComic version 0.9.7 Beta, but this version only provides a minor bugfix to his previous release. The dev states that he has fixed the bug that deletes all bookmarks when users add a new one. So continue enjoying PSPComic by downloading the latest version below.

» Wonderful.

This is the greatest app out there for the PSP in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

» Damn, foo!

I've been waiting for this. I have a ton of comics backed up, and I used to read them on my Vaio UX. This is so much more convenient. Looking for to the next release, bro.

PEP Viewer is still the best IMO, sure this opens CBR and CBZ archives but so does WinRAR

» Stupid comparison

PEP Viewer? Apples to oranges. And I don't have the time to unrar 30 gigs of comics. This is a great app, Archaemic.

» Working with PDF Files

Will this program work with a PDF format, or is a conversion from PDF to CBR/CBZ essential?

If the answer is "no", does anyone have a recommendation for a specific program? Thank you for any help you can provide.

» Awesome program!

I have not been an avid comic reader in many many years. However, with this program, I have realized what I've been missing. I have used it every day since the first version came out, and am very pleased. Keep up the great work!
